David, Thank you so much - This was the only JSF I was ever able to actually attend. It was a great night even though the Blyth team didn't do well. A puzzle as to why a team from the far North east of England was chosen to compete in the South West of England. Great Memories.
Renata Kalani was known to some UK listeners as the German presenter of the Radio Programme Musik kennt keine Grenzen from West Deutscher Rundfunk, known in the UK as Pop Over Europe on the BBC.

That must have been wonderful. Unfortunately I was born too late. The only jsfs done here in the Spain were when I was 4/7 years old (88 and 91). It was enough for me to remember to tune in at the good hour to see it.

According to the excellent JSF website, Blyth went to British heat as highest scoring losers on It's a Knockout . They'd drawn 10-10 with Ashington and lost on the throw of a single dart. So although they lost out on a jolly on the continent they still got to Don the red tabard.

The English town of Blyth sounds very like the Dutch word Blift which means to stay.

The UK heat was in Bristol, because the city was celebrating 600 years,
