You guys could turn a funeral into a party. Even with the springer snapping, it looks like y’all had a good time. I like how you kept it cool when it broke and went right to work finding a replacement. I think I would have lost it big time, especially with minimal sleep. Glad y’all made it home safe.
Sean from Bikes and Beards said he wants a Knucklehead, he was talking they bring well over 6 figures. I had to set him straight. Told him for a '36 concourse restoration or original paint it would bring that amount. I really don't think he likes me. You guys are awesome. Glad you made it home safe and sound, well, maybe not sound. You guys bring the party to us! Edit: I fired up my Harley yesterday, it was a beautiful day yesterday, in Ohio, took it for a long ride, to clear my mind, if that's possible...damn '80's.

Awesome to see the positive vibes and making most of a situation. Dude by me snapped his springer a few weeks ago. Went over the handlebars and died. Gf on the back got messed up too.. Live to ride another day bros!!!
As for nothing is as easy as it looks, you can always count on the unanticipated to be anticipated, ain't that the ball busting truth. I'm impressed how you guys scrambled scratched and clawed your way to rescue the chopper when your chips were down. Not to worry cause those who worry dwell on troubles, you guys bit the bullet and spit it out and the chopper rose from the dust dirt and mud to see the road again. It was an accident waiting to happen, glad nobody got hurt. Balls of steal ! Gotta like and subscribe.
They might have bought that springer from me 20 years ago off of Ebay. I used to buy and sell a lot of used old school springers with model A radius rods welded on. You have to sleave those to work.

Now's a good chance to change the rake and drop the front of the frame down, cut that sucker and throw a good wedge in it and weld that bugger up and change or raise your handlebars for a little more safe clearance.
Metal fatigue is one reason why old extended springers fail. The springer you guys ran was a hack job. My Dad was a metallurgist for a specialty steel company. He told me that H-D applied corrosion-resistant Parkerization to most of their inline springers from the 1930s -- 1950. If that Parkerization finish wasn't properly removed before welding, it could contaminate the weld zone. Not everyone has a facility to x-ray (Magnaflux) welds, but if you can go that route, then do so for your ass's sake. Over the decades, I've seen four springers take a header: two extended H-D springers, a newer custom springer from a "reputable" company and a barnyard special from a swap. Thank God John wasn't hurt when that springer folded. I'm glad you guys made it back to Mass safe and sound. Now, on to the next build! All the very best -- W
@@Full_Otto_Bismarck -- Thanks. IF I was to go with a springer, there are a few different routes to go: there are aftermarket companies which offer replica H-D inline springers. Some are overstock length and chrome plated. I think some guys in Sweden offer them. I'd do some extensive first -- to make sure any repop springer isn't make in China (or Taiwan). Anything coming from those two countries is questionable, at best. A lot of those springers are made from inferior material and some are tweeked from not being aligned properly in a fixture before welding. Anything from Sweden or America will cost more (natch). Moto Iron makes a decent aftermarket custom springer. TC Bros markets them. For more info regarding Moto Iron springers, check the video that TC Bros put out a few years back. In regards to a custom springer, my FIRST choice would be Paughco. They've been in business since 1969 or 1970 (I believe). They offer custom narrow springers and wider springers with tapered rear legs, which sort of resemble rear legs on H-D springers. Bear in mind that Paughco stuff is not cheap! All of their springers feature top quality materials, workmanship and finish (the BEST chrome!). Those same springers are heavier due to the use of solid steel in the rear legs. Sugar Bear makes a quality springer too -- if you want a custom look AND if you have deep pockets. Decades ago, Dick Allen, Freddie Hernadez, D&D Distributors (later Jammer Cycle) and Fury made top-shelf springers. P&P and Smith Bros and Fetrow and Earl Durfee used to build great girder forks. Lastly, I've never bought springers or girders from swaps. You just don't know how those forks were made and how many miles, potholes (and wheelies) they were put through. Above everything else, safety is your number one concern. Good luck with your project. Build right. Ride safe. -- W
