  • In this EXPLORE MEXICO video about My Day in Acapulco, you will not see cliff divers or any of the resort beaches. I guess you can call this video, the untourist tour.
So if you are looking for information about the normal things to see and do in Acapulco, then skip this video. It has none of that. You can see how I explore Mexico from a more non-touristy point of view.
If you like wandering local markets, eating where the locals eat, and discovering hidden Diego Rivera art, .... then this video is for you.
My friends, Ethel and Connie have been coming to Acapulco for over 30 years. In this video, they were my "tour guides" to visit some of the places they have found over those many years. Also, you can hear some interesting and funny stories they have about their past experiences in Acapulco.
I hope you enjoy this video. If you do, please give it a "Thumbs Up." And if you want to keep informed as to when I post new travel videos, then go ahead and click SUBSCRIBE.
A new video comes out every Sunday and sometimes I may sneak another one in during the weekdays.
If you are looking for a good travel agent, you may want to contact my friend, Ethel. She knows Mexico and the world. ethel.davey@premieregroup.com

Hi Marisol, Thank you for all your comments. I think if we all keep looking at the negative side of traveling, we might as well just stay home and "vacation" in our backyard. There is always going to be bad stuff happening somewhere in all countries. However, if we are just always aware of our surroundings during a trip and trust our instincts, everything should be fine. I have hand selected the Mexican guides I network with for our exploration tours and trust them to be informed with what is going on in the region they are taking my travel guests.
I am also passionate about creating great real Mexico experiences for those who go on our exploration tours. And the good thing is ... I know what they will be encountering because I have already been there and experienced it myself.
I see you are from Puebla. I love that state. There is so much to explore and learn in your state. You can watch my video on my most recent trip I took last May to Zacatlan.

      Hi Jean,
Thanks for your comment. I think it is a fun place to visit. I like the fact that it is different from a place like Cancun in that Acapulco is a big Mexican city located along a beautiful bay. There you can mix with the locals in the restaurants, streets, and on the beaches. Cancun, like Ixtapa was built specifically for tourism. There is no real Mexican history to either of them.
Acapulco on the other hand has lots of history to offer. I like to visit the San Diego Fort facing the entrance to the bay.
      Stay in touch.
      See you in Mexico!

I like the fact that Acapulco is not only a great beach destination, it is also a large Mexican city. Foreigners who visit can enjoy its great seaside hotels plus they can also be immersed in the local culture which I call, the "Real Mexico."
I say "Real Mexico" as compared to the created-specifically-for-tourism locations like Ixtapa and Cancun.
I look forward to being in Acapulco again in April. I am sure I will capture some more great moments on video while I am there.

Gracias por tu comentario. Soy originario de Chicago y también tengo una oficina en Veracruz. Así que estoy en México 5-6 meses cada año explorando y organizando viajes de exploración en todo México para los viajeros.
He estado en Acapulco varias veces y realmente me gusta. En cuanto a que es un "lugar peligroso" ... Chicago es un lugar peligroso, también lo es Washington DC, así como París, así es ... cada ciudad tiene un aspecto de "peligro".
Así que estoy seguro de que volveré a Acapulco nuevamente.

I really want to visit Acapulco, specifically la quebrada, Caleta and Caletilla, Icacos and Isla Roqueta but too much has been said about the violence. When would it be appropriate to visit there? It looks like a lovely place to visit.

    • @mexicotravelexperiences

Hey, thanks for watching my video. Acapulco is a cool place to visit. In fact, I will be there again in April for a big tourism conference.
In response to your question, I texted a travel agent friend of mine (she is the one in the video - Ethel) to ask her what she thought about the safety factor and best time to go there. I look to her as somewhat of an expert on Acapulco because she and her family have been vacationing there almost every year now for over 30 years. That's a lot of visits!
      Here is Ethel's reply ...
"It is perfectly safe. Suggest Boca Chica that we visited as a good hotel to stay at or any of the hotels on the Costera which offers easy local bus access to Caleta, Caletilla. Any time is a good time. Winter months are busier of course, with Christmas and Holy Week being good times to avoid.
      "
So there you have it from an Acapulco "expert."
My comment to folks who ask about safety in Mexico is to say that it is always a possibility that one could be at the "wrong place at the wrong time." That could happen anywhere in the world; even in their own home town. However, I always tell our travel guests who are going on one of our tours that if they have no intention to buy or sell illegal substances while they are there, then then there should be no worries.
If you do decide to go to Acapulco and are looking for an inexpensive place to stay with a kitchenette (just a few blocks from the ocean), then look up Villa Linda. I have stayed there and found it to be nice. FYI - They have a pool too!
      Have fun in Mexico!
