    I got the bug to Hammock camp and you have been an invaluable, encouraging resource. My 2 preteen sons and 2 of my daughters have enjoyed doing overnighters out in the yard and at friend’s property. So much more comfortable than laying on the ground...even with ground padding. Thank you Marine! Great tutorials!

      I believe that our greatest resource, are our children. Spending time with them in the great outdoors is something that they will remember and also carry with them for the rest of there lives. Now I get to see my children doing the same with their children. Plus, most of the time I get to join them. I believe it was a good investment that payed off very well for me.

    1st point is what a lovely home you have digger, 2nd point is you should author an E-book with all the wonderful and factual information that you are providing for free on you tube, so potential hammock buyers/uses/campers have everything on what to.buy, how to set up and how to use a hammock. I don't think there is such a resource available explaining as clear and concise on the purchase, set up and use of hammocks as clear and as simple you explain it.

    Enjoy your videos and because of those I have purchased two hammocks. But, not for camping but for earthquake preparedness. I live near San Francisco, CA. My thinking is whenever there is a big earthquake there many aftershocks. It's the aftershocks that create sleepless nights. So I believe the hammocks will reduce the shakiness felt on a bed, making it easier to sleep. Not sure it will work or the best way to set them up. Maybe you can give it some thought and create some videos and tag them as earthquake preparedness.

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  4 роки тому

      That is because of the design and the cut of the hammock. If you are not so tall. You could shorten the rigeline to give a deeper sag. But make sure that you are still comfortable when lying in it.
      What I do is just sit in it to where it is either in front of me or behind me. Some time a little lower angle on the suspension will help. Thank you for watching Brian.

    Loads of great advice again.
    Am looking to transition from a cheap day hike hammock, to something I can sleep in overnight on the trail.
    Sadly most hammocks on sale over here in England seem to max out around 8ft 10in (2.7m) long - which according to advice on one of your earlier videos is way too short for me at 6ft 2in.
    Will have to investigate shipping one over from the States. Thanks again.

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  4 роки тому

      You would definitely need a 11ft hammock. With the width from 64in to 70in ( 164cm to 177cm ). If you do not need a bug net. Then I would recommend the Dutchware Wide Netless Hammock with the knotty Mods and a structual ridgeline and a pair of continuous loops ( they don't come with the hammock anymore ).
      This is my favorite hammock. My son just bought one a few months ago , who is also 6ft 2in.

      But I do have say that I have been using the cinch buckles from Superior Hammock latly. They are very simple to use.
      I have tried many hammocks. But never a Hennessy. Please let me know what you think of it, when you have used it a few times Ryan.

  • @cougarmeat8803
    @cougarmeat8803 4 роки тому

    You might mention that with a Whoopie sling, there is a high overhead in the required distance between trees. The length of loops and the “bury” section that grabs the line can add about two feet to the distance requirement. Shorter people don’t want trees too far apart because they can’t reach up high enough to make the proper angles.
    Straps or daisy chains have minimal “distance” overhead. But often the “step” distance, 5 to 6 inches between daisy chain loops is too much. I carry a six inch continuous loop I can double over to three inches. Putting that in a loop and connecting to it gives me half a step difference; for most cases is close enough.

    I totally agree on the last part of the hammock being to small , that’s why at 6’4” and 190 lbs I’m considering a 12 foot gathered end hammock. I only see them made my Arrowhead Equipment and Dutchware. But if one is interested in the add-ones you have to get an 11 ft. So my question is will it make a difference in the lay that much between 11 and 12 foot at my height! Not sure how much I need all the extras and they are quite pricey. I’ve seen Dream Hammock and Shelltowee as well. Bit of a noobie here. I have a 110” x 58” gathered end and an Amok Draumr XL. Thanks.

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  4 роки тому

      Length is very important. But by far the most overlooked and misunderstood is the width. If I where you. And it sounds like that you are on a budget. I would get the Dutchware Gear "The 12 Footer". It has a width of 68 inches ( I would of liked to have it at 70 inches like the wide 11ft. Netless. But right now that is the widest Dutch can get for that fabric ). It has knottymods ( to create a footbox ) and it is only 45 dollars. But that does not include the continuous loops or a structural ridgeline. And you will need to buy a suspension. They sell potable bug nets if this is the hammock you want to use it for camping.
      Otherwise. If you want a hammock with a integrated bug net. Then I would get the Darrin from dream hammock. Contact Randy and ask him if he would make you a 12 footer with the width either 68, 70 or 72 inches in the width. I am sure he would be more than happy to do that for you. Plus you can get add-on's if you want.

    Hi Marine, this is Pete from Hudson. I recently switched to a ridgerunner, which I know you use a lot. My question is what tarp and underquilt do you use? My Hammock Gear Journey tarp just isn't long or wide enough and I had some cold spots a couple of weeks ago on the Angleworm trail using my Hammock Gear Incubator underquilt. Would appreciate your wisdom and experience on some recommendations. Thanks, Pete

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  4 роки тому

      Hey, It is good to hear from you, Pete. You will want a tarp that is around 10ft. wide. Because you will hang the bridge hammock at a 20-degree angle. You can use a 12 or 13ft. in length if you want. But the side panels pullouts must be farther apart to accommodate the spreader bars. But Jason from warbonnet created a tarp that is specifically made for the Ridgerunner. It is the Cloudburst. I love using the Ridgerunner during the summer months ( my go-to hammock ). And that is the tarp that I will use. It is a rectangular tarp. Nothing fancy. A big wide tarp, which I really like. It is the kind of tarp that everybody can get under when it rains.

      I would agree with Jake. My favorite hammock is the Dutchware Gear wide 11ft. Netless. 70 in. width.
      Dutch came out with a 12ft. But only 68 inches.
      I was hoping to have it tested by now. I have a brother that is 6'5''. About 280lbs. He is going to be my guinea pig.

    I have heart problems and have been told not to have my head lower than my feet. Is this a problem for hammock camping?

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine
      @AdventureswiththeMarine  4 роки тому

      When lying in a hammock. You are always trying to achieve a flat lie. If you lie closer to the head end of the hammock. Then your head will be higher. And also how you hang it. Will determine which end will be higher. But a bridge hammock would be your best option. I hope this helped Shane.

      There is so many names for the slippery half hitch. I was taught that the name was a simple loop knot. Thank you Ninjaridaz for watching.

    I don't like whoopie slings, since it can't get as short as other methods.

      I have been using the Superior Hammock Cinch Buckles lately. They are heavier than my whoopie slings ( that I have been using for years ). But they are so nice to use.

      Backpacking With a Hammock I like the idea of the daisy chain. But I also like to have my tarp attached to the hammock. I’ll dig some ideas here and there.

      Thanks for the hammock tips..... many times I have had friends that hammock tell me how great they are. I always said why do I need a hammock when I can sleep on the ground. Well I have to say I sleep in my hammock now as a remedy to make my back feel better. Sleeping on a bed is nice but I like to rotate it up by sleeping on the floor, sleeping on a bed and sleeping in a hammock. For people that have back problems this is an amazing remedy.!!!! I don’t know what it is about a hammock but they work it fkn amazing!!!!

    You don't need 18 minutes to explain how to set up a hammock ffs. Sweet sweet ad revenue!
