I recently got this at the discounted price on rails and I love it, I think its gourgeus, classy and really detailed for its size. I'm a sucker for lms maroon but the black with white cab roof made my eyes drool
Great review Peter of another stunning addition to your steam fleet. I remember going to the NRM in York, during the 1980s, with my parents and seeing the real 'Hardwicke' although she looked like a toy because she was beside 'Mallard' Lol. Have a great Xmas and an even better New Year. Well done on reaching 3K subs. Stay safe and take care, regards Gary.
An excellent review there peter, the locomotive to me looks brilliant, when it comes to price the way I see it is i do think it is a bit high for what it is but at the same time it is cheaper than doing a kit version of the model, your model looked fantastic in the black livery with the white cab and with the pullmans it looked even better.
Hi, Peter. Nice look this. And I’ve got mine too Yesterday on Monday, his a same one of LNWR Improved Precedent 2-4-0 No. 790 ‘Hardwicke’ is Locomotionmodels.
Lovely review, i took at chance gamble on mine at the national rail museum on thursday. I payed a fair bit in the hope it supports the upkeep and restoration of the locomotives in the museum. I am thoroughly impressed with my new precedent class. I opted for the black roof. Just one thing whats the advantage of rubber wheels? I would like to swap them for the cast ones but it looks a bit of a challenge.
The rubber on the wheels are traction tyres. They can be changed for wheels without them, but then they might not have the traction to pull long trains. Not tried it myself and wouldn't want to risk that.
Mine ran quite badly by contrast. It waa cutting out everwhere and seemed challenged by 4 foot radius curves! Also, mine seems over geared and the front pony is oversprung. Pretty much as Sam said in his review. Still a beautiful review from yourself! For myself, I will have to rweek mine to get it to run like your's does
Thank you Peter, I have just caught up on this and having bought one myself just before Christmas I agree with most of your comments. What would interest me to know is your opinion of the merits of Hardwicke in comparison with Lucknow sold by Rails of Sheffield. I had originally placed an order for Lucknow but when Locomotion Models announced Hardwicke- which as it ran in the 1895 Race to the North is the more famous member of the Precedent class I switched my order to that. While I am happy with Hardwicke i am not so keen on the white roof as opposed to the black one on Lucknow, and also the latter has black coupling rods which to my eye is more authentic. Have you also acquired Lucknow and can make the comparison..wonder what others think?
I don't own Lucknow so cannot directly compare it to Hardwicke Although the model of Hardwicke is depicted in its as preserved condition with the white roof and silver rods which the real one has
Hi Peter Hope you are well? Yes sprung buffers are pointless I only use them if am reviewing too. It a fantastic model Is money too high for it? For me it broader line. Traction tyres should not be on any model in this day and age Keep safe arp

Cheers David, Pullnans did indeed go well with Hardwicke
I agree on the price
Thank you for the review Peter.
Hate traction tyres just as I hate plastic wheels.
