I've liked David Bromberg ever since I first heard him on our local college station WRPI in Troy, NY., back in the 60's... This song is one of my favorites, it has always brought a chill to my spine!
I grew up in Scotia a bigtime listener to WRPI and it too turned me on to Bromberg. Saw him many times in really small venues, like the Music Inn in the Berkshires in the 70's. My favorite DBB song.
I found this video 8 yrs ago and love it. Simple song to learn and play. David is such a great musician and story teller.
One of the best storytellers alive! I have never seen a performer keep an audience in the palm of his hand the way he does! Incredible performer!

The lyric is incredible. The guitar and vocal haunting. The song just grabs you. So attracted to the story. Who knows why?

And WQBK in Rensselaer with the Reverend!
Rest in Peace, Paul Siebel.
I was cautious about listening to a live performance, I love the album version - beyond! Silly me. How could this be any more perfect? Thank you.
One of my many favorite Emmylou songs but now I know it's origins....and will look deeper into Willa Cather's writings
