your dad is seriously good at picking up on themes and the stories woven in the songs. it took me multiple listens to realize the story behind pyramid, and he got it on the first listen
i recommend reading the lyrics, similarly to how he is. when i really wanna dissect a song, i have a better time when reading along. however, he doesn't even have to pause the song and think. guy's insanely impressive

6:40 Thinking About You was originally a reference track that Frank made for a different artist but when his label heard it they told him he should use it instead. That was the start of Channel Orange. That’s why it was a single
Pretty sure he’s bi but I’ve notice people use gay to describe him. I think it’s just a overall lack of knowledge that makes people in the music community automatically assume he’s Gay when they find out he likes guys.
@@gprada I'm not sure why everyone always assumed Chanel was about being bi. He only mentions men on that song. I'm pretty sure he means he sees both the masculine and feminine energies of the men he likes since that's what he's describing in the song.

i just found your channel from your chappell roan review and i’m so happy to be here. this is my favorite album of all time and pops really hit on every point of why i love it. crying over songs you’ve listened to for years is so real and it feels so good, it’s exactly how these songs make me feel. im about to watch your review of blond and im so ready to hear your thoughts!!!
The song playing in the background on the last track is a song called Voodoo. Its not on any streaming platforms but it is on UA-cam. You guys should do a reaction to it. One of my favorite frank ocean songs.
@@putyouon btw Frank Ocean said in some magazine interview (heard this on dissect) that he used to go to AA meetings with his grandad when he was a kid. Some of the stories he heard there inspired the song crack rock
Everything, the work, thought, time and patience that went into the creation of this album is all the reason why it’s still soo great! Im sure u know 🙌🏾👏🏾, enjoyed watching this!
I was kinda disappointed that dad didn't like jpegmafia's album, but hearing him enjoy channel orange makes me happy. It teaches me that, sometimes, people just have different music tastes. And that's okay. Makes it even more powerful when you do find an album that you can both connect with.
Jpegmafia's music is difficult for people who aren't super into rap anyways. For most music the more exposure to it the more you'll understand it and be able to listen to "weirder" music. Give him another few months of consistently listening to hip-hop and he'll be more likely to enjoy something like veteran
@@meya3521 i think thats kinda what op’s saying. i never recognized peggy as experimental until i put him up against more modern and commercialized rap. its easier for a rap fan to like him than a non rap fan
@@SB_WZRD the influence he has because of REALLY doing his own thing is bigger than he will ever be. I honestly feel like he nailed it. not my style but I really appreciate him.
Thanks you both reminding me how great this album is. I'm glad your dad was immediately into this. I would like to make some correction (I'm sure others have already made lol): Frank was born in California, but from the age of 5 he grew up in New Orleans, so he's really from New Orleans. And as far as I'm aware he came out as bisexual (not gay) right before the album dropped. He even changed Thinkin Bout You to add "boy" like right before the album dropped just to make it clear the song was about a guy.
I didn't realize it until they started talking about him seeing the color orange a lot and then I realized I was wearing an orange shirt and in a room with orange walls!
honestly listening to channel orange gets better with every listen, i was 8 when this album came out and it released a day before my birthday ! odd future was definitely a factor of my upbringing and i get so much nostalgia whenever i listen to this or WOLF
What your dad said, I was the same way as a kid. Didn't ask for anything because I knew we didn't have it. I think sometimes as a parent they really may not be able to afford a $20 baseball. If it's the difference between paying bills and priorities, I get it. Sometimes those experiences push kids to go harder when they get older.
Frank Minimalistic style is godly. Guitars can do the work and some basic Synths and some samples. But time to time he'll have Grand Productions that's top notch. Pyramids is a good example and in his next album that's gonna be Nights.
John meyer, has said in an interview he didn’t bring this guitar to Frank’s house. once he heard the song he asked to borrow a guitar. also frank was a song writer before putting out his own album so that’s why it might have been “easier” to get big names on the album
I’ll comment again after the video but my friend has synesthesia and she sees music and sound as colors, in addition to hearing it. For example, my voice was yellow to her (i forgot the exact shade / description she used), and when i played music in the car (Faye Wong, one of the best Chinese and Mando/Cantopop singers of all time) she said “this is so beautiful..” while looking like she was looking closely at something. I looked at what she was looking at then realized she was just talking about the music, and must’ve been looking at it too
