My ole Man is an old friend of Steve's, and has been involved one way or another with brutal music since it was strictly underground and rare, he said Steve is one of the top most knowledgeable musicians, and top shelf among the elite masters of all musical things percussion, and he's pretty good at video games too!
A neat trick for those of you who are unaware that you can use a blow dryer & hold it right over the tom to get rid of all those dents from banging away.
Love Steve’s phenomenal drumming. He’s a beast and had his own uniquely style. He always comes across as a very nice person. I’d love to see him playing the guitar because he actually wrote many of decides riffs and songs. A super talented guy.
He gives off such a good guy vibes, man. I had no idea who he was until today. I knew of Deicide, of course, but didn't know his name. Time to binge on some Steve Asheim videos
Love the classic guys, I'm an old metal head myself and love when guys like Deicide and a few others that never sold out or went soft, I admire that alot, Steve has been blasting his drums for over 30+years! Imagine playing death metal drums for that long, Steve is a machine and some of the others from the old school, I still jam them like Suffocation, Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse, But there is so much of the grindcore type metal bands they got 100 names for it now but it's all death metal to me. I listen to so many different bands but long as its ULTRA HEAVY I'm good
Was lucky enough to meet Steve here in Sioux Falls about 5 years ago at Bigs Bar-he took pictures with me and my son! He's right about the Paiste cymbals and Vater sticks-they are the best
He did the same for me in Casper Wy (close enough neck of the woods) 👍. Even when it was 1am and he was tearing his kit down he took time to shoot the shit with me seemed very appreciative we came out. I said "are you kidding me its Deicide!" Haha ... an elite person and musician 🤘
SAME style and size VATER sticks too, (since the early mid 90's at the least! I know Once Upon the Cross touring era for SURE, possibly sooner....) AND? STILL uses the Alesis DM5 module, DW beaters since ALL above, too.....Steve definitely has his stuff goins ON now! One of the BEST DM drummers since inception and just KEEPS going. 🤘
LOVE YOU BROTHER!!!!!! Hope to spend some time with you again in Pittsburgh... SALUTE!!!!! Thanks for the amazing drum inspiration for the past 30+ years!!!! THE BEST!!!!!
I got the gibralter rack at one point it would slip due to round tubing we drilled with a bit a hole through the clamp and pipe put a tractor pin in it
Vater sticks are the best in my opinion. I use the Fusion sticks and they have the best balance and feel. The rack is awesome for saving space and keeping everything in tact. Great set up Steve!!
Get a good one and yeah, to hell with most the latter era made modules that just simply AIN'T near as user friendly (LOTS of old school Metal drummers just triggering kick drums HAVE found out anyways) as the DM5. Noticed Steve HAS moved up to the kick drum pedal pedal style triggers as opposed to the DDRUM clamp ons....Those too, were near bulletproof throughout the 90s, early 2000s but they sold out to another company and the newer ones just are not the same as the older ones.
In my opinion, Steve is the absolute best of the original death metal drummers who is responsible for developing death metal drumming to a level never before seen, when legion was first released I remember every musician I knew was absolutely blown away by the technicality of his playing and also the brutality he brought to the table, severely an underappreciated pioneer of death metal drumming. I thought Steve had a new endorsement with d drum? Can anyone give any further information on this?. I've met Steve a few times in the UK, I had the honour of singing 4 songs for them at Jilly's rock world, around 2003/4 Glenn was held at customs and they had no bassist or vocalist, so jokingly I said to Ralph santollo that I'd do a few songs for them, and low and behold I ended up back stage smoking a hash pipe with Steve, and I then went on the stage with Steve ,jack Owen and Ralph santollo ,brilliant day that was. He now endorses d drum, the kit he now plays sounds great, and the look of the power Tom's is fkn awesome.
Cool Nicko McBrain crash. Steve has been rocking the Alphas for a while. I know Paiste discontinued the Alphas a few years back, was wondering if Paiste was gonna hook him up with a new set of Rudes or Signatures.

Didn't know Steve had signature sticks, need to get them now
Man I saw Deicide must have been in the 90’s at the Bayou in Wash DC Steve was using a Fallicon rack or Voelker rack. That was an awesome setup.

Beast of a drummer and a killer setup . What snare is that ???
Alesis DM 5 still the king of Drum modules?

Blasting on a 2B stick, damn
Alot of metal guys use big ass sticks because they use the weight to do most of the work
🤘
