  • Canucks GM Patrik Allvin announced today that the club has acquired a 4th round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Ilya Mikheyev, Sam Lafferty, and a 2nd round pick in the 2027 NHL Entry Draft.
Vancouver is retaining 15% of Mikheyev’s salary as a part of the transaction...this equates to $712,500 per season for the next two seasons.
Obviously, I recorded this video as new of the potential trade was breaking.

Sounds good to me. Guentzel would be nice for a couple season, but long term is sketchy. I’d rather they sign Toffoli for 2-3 years, re-sign big Z, and Joshua. Would make the team more well rounded.

@@danielpatterson5189 As much as having to part with a couple of draft picks seems a bit much, Mikheyev:
      - last regular season averaged the second-fewest points per game of his NHL career at 0.397 (31, including 11 goals, over 78 games), with only his stint with the Leafs in the 2021 North Division (0.315 [via 17 points, including seven goals, over 54 games]) having resulted in a lower average
      - in postseason play has only ever put up points in one postseason: that of 2022 with the Leafs when he put up 4, including 2 goals, over 7 games
      - has:
      - a 23-game goal-scoring drought following a mid-March OT loss to the Avs
      - a 12-game pointless streak, following an assist on a goal during a win over the Flames
      - following a:
-- February OT loss to the Red Wings, gone 17 straight away games without having put up a point
-- December win over the Blackhawks, gone 12 further away games without having scored
This past postseason the Canucks, in 7 games, scored under 3 goals, ending with a record of 2-5 including 0-3 against the Oilers in that conference semifinal. The last 3 losses under such circumstances hurt the Canucks as they had come during the final 4 games of their most recent season. That not since the Wings, to end their 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons, has a Western Conference team qualified for consecutive Stanley Cup finals doesn’t mean the Canucks will necessarily qualify for the 2025 Cup final. If the Canucks this off-season don’t make enough of the right moves to improve their roster, they definitely won’t qualify for 2025 Cup final.
The Canucks this offseason have, if the per-season cap hit of defenceman Tucker Poolman isn’t part of long-term injured reserve, slightly over US$15.2 million of cap space. That still means, among players who they had under contract up to and including this month, but who they have yet to decide whether to re-sign, expiring contracts (unrestricted free agents unless otherwise noted), of Elias Lindholm, Sam Lafferty, Dakota Joshua, Tyler Myers, Ian Cole, Nikita Zadorov, Casey DeSmith, Arturs Šilovs (restricted FA with neither arbitration rights nor 10.2[c] status) and via the minors, major-junior teams or overseas teams:
      - Sheldon Dries
      - Vitali Kravtsov (RFA with arbitration rights)
      - Aidan McDonough (RFA with neither arbitration rights nor 10.2[c] status)
      - Matt Irwin
      - 3 other RFAs with arbitration rights (Filip Johansson, Jet Woo and Nick Cicek)
      - Zach Sawchenko
That 7 of 10 pending UFAs the Canucks had under contract to this month got regular playing time at the NHL level likely will mean changes will come anyway because I don’t think the Canucks will be able to re-sign all of them.
