      @Alan Craig Yep, #24 definitely MVP of the game. Very agile and quick for his size! He often looks like he's about to fall or get tackled but ends up gaining a lot of extra yardage. Congrats to Air Force this year, what a great team! And also to the brave men and women serving our country in the AF. .

    Air Force has a 40 year history of running the option/triple option, but this year Hammond threw the ball a lot. The only reason we ran the triple option primarily in this game was to control the clock. This was won by fabulous coaching vs mediocre coaching.
    D Hammond III you are the best QB we've had at USAFA. Remsberg way to make us proud man. T Jackson I've watched you all year kick ass, too. O Line, you guys rock, too. Receivers have stood-out all year. You guys are bringing back a long tradition of punching above our weight and I love seeing the next gen in friendly strife sewing the seeds of future aerial victory. Total respect from '88.

      Clearly the triple option did not get the better of the air raid. AF coaches got the better of WSUs coaches. When WSU was stopped twice at the goal line it was because the best passing team in the country tried to run it in. They scored three touchdowns passing it in the same area. Coaches blew this one.

    • @poco1174
      @poco1174 4 роки тому

      Michael MacDonald Sorry to hear you just woke up this year. I do think it is true that Leach doesn’t coach defense particularly well. That’s why guys like Tracy Claeys and Alex Grinch have been his defensive coaches. Still, one thing you can say for sure is that AF’s defense wasn’t particularly tough either. Cougs had the ball for less than 17 minutes...actually 16 something. 5 drives into the red zone, actually inside the ten. Think about that. In 16+ minutes AF gave up 5 drives into the red zone. 3 passing TDS. And those receivers were alone! Wide open. 28 completions. And 366 yards passing. In 16+ minutes. So, yes the offense was tough, but? Believe me I know a lot about AF football. I have been a season ticket holder for 15 years. Another way to look at the teams over the years is to compare our record against Boise State to AF’s record against BSU. We’re 8-1. AF?

    That RB remsburg is something else he's a warrior on the gridiron. Air force won the game on the first drive classic triple option long yardage drive bled over 12 mins off the clock squeezing the life out of the WSU defense. The military academies have been running triple option for years and nobody does it better.

    • @joeschizoid7762
      @joeschizoid7762 5 років тому +3

      The service acadamies started running the triple option out of necessity. They couldn't recruit the 350-lb. linemen, because they would be unable to fulfill their military obligations.

      I told my wife after the first drive, this is going to be trouble. Troy Calhoun is an underrated coach. He had a strategy. It was a good one. Still by abandoning their strength at critical junctures in the game, they gave AF the advantage. Monday morning QBing of course.

      Joe Schizoid True. And it was the defense that made it so. All these people that are talking about how the option outperformed the air raid are forgetting that The Cougs had the ball for 17 minutes, hit three TDS, 28 completions, and 366 yards. Pretty decent production I think. Because AF controlled the clock the game looked far more lopsided than it was. Even after the late TD the Cougs were moving the ball until a long penalty. The game was in doubt until that point.

    • @poco1174
      @poco1174 5 років тому

      Steve Leid true enough. I am a Coug, but live in Colorado Springs and have season tickets to AF. He had a great year and is underrated. One thing AF did well this game that helped him was receiver and downfield blocking. Most of our players had probably barely seen a triple option let alone one like AFs. They had no clue they had to spread those wide pitches and get those lead blockers down. It was horrible to watch.

      Actually Wazzu’s kicker was a Lou Groza finalist! Still shaking my head. Still we could have, should have, and DID pass for three TDS in the same area. Leach didn’t have confidence in his defense and knew he needed TDs to stay in this game. Look at the stats. For the great game they played AFs pass defense sucks as bad as Wazzu’run defense. In 17 minutes of possession we hung 3 pass TDS, 28 completions and 366 yards. Celebrate the win, a great run offense, brilliant coaching. Nice job by Hammond. Great job by running backs. But not! Destruction of the air raid.

    When I was in high school we played a team that ran the Air Raid offense. We ran the Wing-T, which is a run heavy offense that chews clock. Lmfao literally all passing vs all run option. Such an odd game, also wtf is WSU letting them have a 12+ minute drive 😮

    Mike Leech trash talks(in the press conference)about other pac-12 team and lose to a team that only ran the ball this game... WSU could be better if they have a better defense.

    I hate how the announcers never gave the running back any credit for being athletic, they always called his success on will force, they gotta be kidding he’s good, just because he doesn’t fit the body type.

      The running back I’m talking about is the Air Force running back the scrawny one

      RED GRIM I am a Coug that lives in Colorado Springs and has season tics to AF. He is talented and great fun to watch. Next year will be even better with Jackson back to help him out. A lot of people see triple option running backs the same way the see air raid quarterbacks-a product of the system, not talent. They are wrong in this case.

      What game were you watching? Best passing game in the NCAA. And it showed. 17 minutes of possession 3 TDS, 28 completions, 366 yards. That with no athletes? Yes, our defense was weak, has been all year, but our coaching staff was in turmoil half the year. These are talented athletes-you will see next year.
