I first saw this video in a late night that was almost an early morning - tired enough to make reality a little funnier but not too sleepy to get caught up in it. That part where Kenneth's voice starts to sing the chorus alone, I worried they were just winding down to give the song a quiet end, and then Joey's voice came in like the eagles catching Frodo and Sam out of the fire of the mountain. None of the choir and other extras that are in the album version, just the four central sounds of the Milk Carton Kids, two voices and two guitars, but it still felt cinematic. In that night mood it filled me with an insane inspiration and I jumped up and wrote a spontaneous essay that made no sense in the morning. These guys are powerful.
That ending chord. I've been a fan of these guys for a while and the songs on this forthcoming album have all floored me. Monterey had some of their best songwriting & playing. I don't know how they do it, but this is next level.
Down past the aspen Lost in the trails I try to outlast em My tears making haste Let's take the north country ride Where it stays light so far into the night We'll keep the moon in our eyes / We'll keep our eyes on the prize Breathe the ions until everything feels alright Right around the bend Your weed's growing tall I see in the end Your path after all Let's take the north country ride Where it stays light so far into the night We'll keep the moon in our eyes / We'll keep our eyes on the prize Breathe the ions until everything feels alright I know how hard it is to fight with the whole of the world I know the scarsyou had the most beautiful scars Out on the dock So grey and so cold Echoes off the rocks, a laugh I know and I love Let's take the north country ride Where it stays light so far into the night We'll keep the moon in our eyes / We'll keep our eyes on the prize Breathe the ions until everything feels alright
i like this version better than the official release ones, i feel like its more grounded and intimate, and both are as soulful as always, you guys are awesome
What a stunningly beautiful song and this wonderful live performance takes it to another level. It's their ability to transport you right inside the mood and lyrics of the song that is so utterly entrancing.
I realize there probably isn't a lot of mixing to be done on this song (with only 1 mic), but the audio always sounds so good on all the eTown shows. I'm sure there are some adjustments made that enhances what we hear. Of course it helps to have a good act like MCK to record.
I must say I love seeing Milk Carton Kids back to their roots, they are even better than before. Stunning performance!

Down past the aspen
Lost in the trails
I try to outlast em
My tears making haste
Let's take the north country ride
Where it stays light so far into the night
We'll keep the moon in our eyes / We'll keep our eyes on the prize
Breathe the ions until everything feels alright
Right around the bend
Your weed's growing tall
I see in the end
Your path after all
Let's take the north country ride
Where it stays light so far into the night
We'll keep the moon in our eyes / We'll keep our eyes on the prize
Breathe the ions until everything feels alright
I know how hard it is to fight with the whole of the world
I know the scarsyou had the most beautiful scars
Out on the dock
So grey and so cold
Echoes off the rocks, a laugh I know and I love
Let's take the north country ride
Where it stays light so far into the night
We'll keep the moon in our eyes / We'll keep our eyes on the prize
Breathe the ions until everything feels alright
