All opinions are our own but the jokes probably aren't. Sweaty Cowch is hosted by Rob and Noah; two friends that love potty humor and retro video games.
Pirates: The Legend of Black Kat (PS2) - Retro Game Review
Explosively fun and intuitively implemented ship combat is the gem of this otherwise eye wateringly boring adventure. Worth a look but not a full play through

#RetroGaming #PS2Review
There's a Thomas Riccardi here on UA-cam, who claims to have worked on this game.
He still seems upset about it.
Surrounded by a surprising number of fans in the comments beneath a review, he let it be known he thinks it was the most godawful horror ever inflicted on gaming.
So there's probably a good story attached. (Or, since EA is involved, and a ridiculous number of games were put out by the same studio in a short amount of time, it might just be a really familiar one.)
Really? Okay I better pull myself outta this rut and follow this lead, thank you!
Glad this game is getting more acknowledgement from gamers.
I personally love this game, maybe it's nostalgia but my favourite games to play are PS2 RPG's 🙂. I actually had a lovely chat about it a few years ago with Ara Celli who voiced Katarina, she's a lovely woman 🙂 Even though the game wasn't your favourite, thank you for talking about it. I wish it was more well known 👍
Thats awesome you got to meet Ara. I'd still love to talk with anyone who was involved with the game just to poke their brain about its development. Even though I didnt like it, over time Im going to become notalgic for it as its unique amongst the ps2 library.
I admit that the only "open world" aspect was that you could run around in a circle all day, but it's still my favorite PS2 game of all time.
This was your favorite ps2 game of all time?
Just beat it for the first time in almost 20 years I have to say the time has not treated this game all too well but I still love it and it still holds a very special place in my heart
the dolphin noise when he is swimming was hilarious
@10:02 Full on does of anxiety from those ungodly ghostly wails!
So annoying, but hey at least they are polite enough to stop when they wail, so I could keep running. I have footage of THAT HILL too but didnt manage to work it into shorter script. You know the one 🙃
I used to be terrified of the haunted isles portions as a kid just because of that bloody screaming!😂😂
As a 38 year old who still has nightmares about ghosts, I'm happy that scream hasn't invaded my dreams yet. Shout out, ha, to the actress who pulled that off.
4:22 face dives into beach sand
Its as funny and unpredictable in context as it is without.
That shop music is what you'd hear at a pirate themed restaurant aimed at kids.
I'd eat there just to hear the song.
i used to play this with my irish cousin every time he came over. he could speak like no german, and i could speak almost no english. But we could both fight each other with pirate ships. good times
My childhood ❤️ though I owned it for Xbox I remember playing this game for so long. I remember it most for the crazy cheat codes, slaying crabs, and Kat saying grog
I remember when I first got a PS2, my mom took me to gamestop to get me some games and they had a buy 2 get 1 free sale and I got 007 Nightfire, Monsters Inc., and Pirates The Legend of Black Kat. This game was so cool!
That was an amazing video/review. How long did it take?
The only problem with this game was the chest at the top of the hill 😭
Yes, I totally forgot about that, haha
Ayyyy good job on getting this out, the game looks like it was quite the struggle! Sick double jump tho!
Thanks dude. Too bad the best use I got out of that double jump was dodging snowballs.
@@SweatyCowch try throwing items while double jumping, like the knifes or mini kegs near enemies
@Hyperfairy777 Thanks, it's super effective with the exploding kegs, which helps when they are grouped together.
@@SweatyCowchno problem the mini kegs when dropped like that are amazing, even killing the magma works in one go if you use another keg to bring em out the ground and stn then
For the wolf head, I don't think it runs out when the enemy is shot again, but after a short time. I know in multiplayer I've chained wolf head activations together while messing around wit snaller ships as their special charges faster
I recently found your videos and I have to say I love your content your humor is great and the review was very enjoyable !
Thank you for the kind words! Let us know if there's anything you'd like to see.
Awesome Video and thx for reminding me of the Game. This was a certified Banger in my Childhood, played tons of Hours but i never finished it.
I have the Pal Version still in my Collection, guess i should give this another try and finish it for good :D
Overboard was a really cool PS1 Game that i also really liked, sadly i only have it on a Demo Disk.
If you do play through it, let me know what you think. Overboard is definitely on my to play list.
This was and still is a good game. Made me feel like a pirate while playing it Aarrrgh!
this was a game i always saw at the video store to rent but for whatever reason i never did but it always interested me.
never thought a ship as a floating apartment building before until now lol
Gotta any pirate themed RPG recommendations? 😆
@@SweatyCowch i cant think of any at the moment out side of skies of arcadia if that counts lol
@@BioPhoenixReviewsI mean, airship pirates is close enough
Now i want to play gooftroop again such a good music and fun also dkc2.
Another pirate game i remember besides the modern sea of thieves by rare, is Overboard! On psx. It was on the psx demo and was fantastic
3:40 That's a particularly interesting point that you made I remember thinking that it was going to be a tutorial section or something and then take the ship away and give you a simpler one or make you earn one. Because although the wind dancer is relatively basic it's still pretty powerful.
I did however like the ability to upgrade to a larger ship all the way up to a man of war and I wish that was a feature in assassin's Creed Black flag. I kind of get the magic and sticking with one ship but it would have been so fun and really made you feel like a pirate king to be able to have a manowar
I love this game I don't care about the hate I get
love this game, but i can definatly see the issues with being bland, repettive and lacking platforming and a reason to fight most of the enemies, the double jump may not be good for ther non-existant platforming but is amazing in combat to spam throwing items, or drop a keg directly on an enemy without hurting yoursef
want a challenge? beatr the game while opening as few chests as possible
This game was not bland at all, i and my brother played it long ago and we loved the story line
Check out dual hearts for the ps2.
Is it similar to Black Kat?
@@SweatyCowch not really, it's a colorful action rpg zelda-like inspired game with dream stages that literally has been forgotten time. It was released in 2002 for the ps2. Also check out firefighter f.d 18 and kya dark lineage for the ps2.
I checked it out.
I used to play the demo. I loved this.
loved this game
