“Ramble On” is such a great song, honestly glad it doesn’t get overplayed on the radio
Agreed!
That's a sneaking trick you did there. You mentioned Lord of the Rings and Led Zeppelin, but throw in a message about follow your inspiration. Very nice.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you. I feel sorry for Plant if he's looking back on his early works that really resonated people without fondness. You're an inspiring creator, and I always get excited when I see one of your videos debut.
Thank you so much. That means a lot.
“Find your inspiration and don’t ever apologize for it” - that’s a genuinely good advice! Well done, really good video!
Thanks so much! 😊
I draw heavy inspiration from “Weird Al” Yankovic, he’s the reason why I want to get into music, and I will never apologize for that. Similar to Zepplin, Al doesn’t appear very enthusiastic about his earlier music, but I’m glad that he found inspiration from his family car at 16, because it led him down the path of success that became an inspiration to me. “Find your inspiration, and never apologize for it” is the best piece of advice you could give on this topic, so thank you, that will certainly stick with me.
That's so awesome. I love this.
You may be interested in his Club Random conversation with Bill Maher recently. It's the first time I've seen Al not playing any character, just talking about his life, his passions, and his art.
Led Zeppelin is The Greatest Band Of All Time
Won't argue.
I know that painting anywhere...it's the cover of Ahab's album The Divinity of Oceans.
The background music in this video . . . on point 👌
:) Thanks!
Great video. Battle of evermore is one of my all time favorites. And I like your desire to tell people to stick with what they love no matter what.
Oh man, now i wanna go listen to "Misty Mountain Hop". So friggin' good.
ETE, a fellow elderly millennial, finding their way through being a good man and father in these times, inspire me.
Yes! Yay elder millennials. Haha
Also, fantastic choice of thumbnail! Viggo rockin' the busted tooth hard won from all of those stunts!
I liked that thumbnail too but he's already changed it lol 😂 love this channel but dude is seriously obsessive compulsive about his thumbnails 🤣🤣
Thanks. I liked it too, but it was performing badly.
Haha, guilty. Unfortunately that's 90% of the game on UA-cam these days. CTR controls everything. If people aren't clicking and watching, the algorithm kills it. So I have to spend so much time trying to unlock that perfect combination of title and thumbnail. Sucks. Was a lot easier 3-4 years ago.
Awe yeah! New Elk!
Whoooo!
@@EntertainTheElk it's always a jolt to the seratonin! Ty good sir
:)
Great video!! I like it when folk pepper in video essys that aren't within the usual 'genre'. Far more personal. 👍
Thanks! I'm glad you dug it. I'm always trying to find different ways to present video essays. Makes it a lot more fun for me.
You've had a beautiful journey man. Thanks for sharing it, and good luck on your future inspirations :)
I'm late here but LOVE that this lore continues w/more recent bands like Nightwish (& modern fantasycore metal?)
Power Metal

I can't believe somenone would apologize for being inspired by Tolkien, specially now after becoming mainstream. I do believe somenone would actually apologize after being inspired by Garden State...
Great video!
And OMG , how I miss bands like Led Zeppelin, .... being a "character" is more important than being a great musician nowadays.
So you think rockstars back then didn’t put up a persona?
@@worrywirt they weren't living their lives for social media but were playing up to the mystery more, interestingly it seems musicians are more down to earth now but the general population are playing a character more than rock stars from the past ever did
Why did you choose the name entertain the elk?
Good question! I go more in depth on this in my Q&A video from a few years back. Basically I wanted something that would show that I'm talking about more than just film. And I was also terrible at graphic design at the time and so I thought picking an animal would be easier to design a logo for. Then I thought the alliteration of Entertain and Elk sounded nice.
@@EntertainTheElk I may not be an elk but I am entertained!
Why did he changed the thumbnail?
It was performing poorly. Unfortunately that's 90% of UA-cam these days. Gotta have a solid CTR or your video dies. Trying to find the right combination.
@@EntertainTheElk Ok thanks for the info
Blind Guardian
For more than 3 years I have promised myself that I wouldn't watch LOTR trilogy, so that I could forget as much as possible and rewatch it again.
I have all three movies downloaded now in 4k. Each movie is about 125 GB, and it is the extended versions. (each movie is about 3-4 hours long)
You cannot find it in better quality.
...
Next weekend, i'm going smoke a joint for the first time in about 10 months, eat shitloads of AWESOME food and candy while I am watching the trilogy again...
I was so heart broken when I found out how many songs Led Zeppelin flat out stole from other artists.
I'm unaware of this! That sucks
@@EntertainTheElk Yeah, it's pretty rough.
Didn't other bands "inspire" led zeppelin?
Spirit for example.
Yeah absolutely. They didn't have just one source of inspiration.
Led Zeppelin, AKA the best COVER BAND of all time...
Unfortunately.
😒
If you’re inspired by JRR Tolkien, you’re in good company. He’s 3,000 years of lore and myth, the classical education you wished you’d had, the English-language epic we needed, all packaged into a story that a child can understand but an adult will still find new depth in.
"A new power is rising. And it sounds like 'Immagrant."
rush has a song called Rivendell that has great peaceful vibes 🥰
I've believed Tolkein's major works to be in response to WW1 and the aftermath more than WW2. I suppose it could be a mixture.
Some really interesting content in here! I will say your usual editing style is much more effective and engaging than this one though - the constant blinking style cuts between frames became very distracting. (Only a constructive observation, I love your videos usually!)
Dude, this is the third time you've changed the thumbnail. If you want to make sure you get the number of views that match the amount of work you put in, stop doing minority topics. Between one-tenth and five percent of the population listens to early music. Within that percentage, a small portion listens to old rock and within that percentage, a small portion listens to Led Zepplin. Then you have to go the same way for those who like the movie, those who are interested in it, those who do research and those who identify with the style of this movie. And finally, those who like this movie but don't like Led Zepplin won't listen because of Led Zepplin. And those who don't like this movie but like Led Zepplin won't listen to this movie because of this movie. The portion of the population that is interested is far too small for you to be satisfied. So appreciate your work and the effort you put into it, but don't expect the public to be so enthusiastic about a video like this! Good Job and we are so glad to have people like you on UA-cam !🤘🏼
i saw this video at such a good time. i had been feeling creatively bankrupt, stressed from my last year of college and wondering where all my hobbies had gone. a few months ago i played the video game omori, and it stirred something in me that i had not felt in years. the way it told its story so masterfully moved me. i had a drive, a passion to once again create art. i now have picked up drawing once again and have been practicing almost daily! inspiration is so important to the creative process.
I met Robert Plant this summer, he was playing a gig and stayed at the hotel I worked at, I barely did any work, I just stood close to his group as they drank and he told them all these stories. Really nice guy, tipped me as well.
French metal band Aephanemer has a great song about the Raft of the Medusa (titled Radeau de la Méduse) and it's a fucking banger.
Oh damn I gotta check this out.
Lord of the Rings are My All Time Favorite Films. And even though I'm not a huge fan of Led Zeppelin they are a great band and can't deny how influential they are
I performed in Raft of the Medusa when I was in college! (I think it was 1994)
Whoa that's awesome! :)
Raft of Medusa itself is a piece of art about the story of the Medusa, another piece of fiction. And it went on to inspire a 3rd piece of art in the story you read and that further inspired you to make this
That’s so cool!
Zeppelin ❤
I’m 35 and idk what inspires me
Never too late! I'm 36 and still trying to find inspiration every day!
You want some serious Tolkien influence in their musical work, check out Blind Guardian, particularly their concept album Nightfall in Middle-Earth, based on just a fraction of The Silmarillion.
It's a shame to hear Plant look back at his lyrics as he does. It sounds like he's ashamed he wasn't singing something more "meaningful", but as you note of your own youthful, independent creations in college, our attempts to be "meaningful" when we're young are often pretentious instead, lacking the wisdom and worldly experience that comes with age and living. I think it's better to look back on lyrics that expressed a love of something like Tolkien's fantasy, blending it into your own vivid tales and other inspirations, that can deliver a sense of nostalgia in later years rather than looking back at reckless, foolhardy beliefs in shame at your own ignorance.
