Nope , it's all fun until you pile it up in to the timber or it quits you in the middle of a lake ! I'm sure it will float but no thanks . Have fun and be safe ! It's like a boat , and you know what they say about a boat ? The two best days of a boat owners life are ? The day he buys it and the day he sells it !
@@joedeckinflyover I’ve been informed by those who would know that a boat is a hole in the water into which you throw money. A hovercraft, on the other hand, appears to be an unsteerable ballistic object with thrust vectoring and no brakes. Now I want one more than ever. 😁👍
those things are indispensable when it comes to "thin ice" rescues!! nice purchase! rig up 4 ":jack wheels" on bars that go across the hull at the lifting points so you can push it around and to get it on and off the trailer...
Looks like you are having a blast, out there on the ice! I just hope that the seller was transparent, regarding the perpetual maintenance required, in owning such a craft. My friend had one several years ago, and since he used it about eight months out of the year, he was always replacing the neoprene bladder, which surrounds the entire unit, in order to maintain good and effective air pressure in order to support and allow it to hover. Just proceed with Caution, and have fun. Never become complacent...that's what many people 'Fall Into'. Greetings from N. Kentucky. PS Hope that the company still makes the necessary replacement parts.
I love the lift motor throttle, a Shimano bicycle derailleur thumb shift lever I love watching new riders with the over controlling, before the find how to balance and steer.
That radial 4 is the sweetest 2 stroke I’ve ever seen. Wow. By the way that was the hour meter showing on your lcd screen, not a fault. Hours seem high thou. Perhaps not,fun machine lol.
Awesome find Joe! That pump in the back is the bilge pump. The flapper next to it is the automatic float switch. It should come on when she fills to a certain point. One of the switches should operate it manually as well.
I'd lift it up and check the condition of the skirting. But man it's super cool! I have heard from many people who own them that they're notorious for constant maintenance.
That's be one hell of a leaf blower to use around the house and have a little fun doing it! Lmao love ya brotha glad we get to experience these machines through you!
The switch you were wondering what it was for is it runs the trim tab to raise or lower the angle the prop blows the air. ..... UP and the front of the craft comes up and the back goes down. .... DOWN and the front end lowers and the back end comes up. ....... You use it to level the craft at speeds.
Crazy huh? The Hovercraft Club Of Great Britain hold one race meeting a year on a National Holiday weekend about 400yds from my home. You should hear dozens of them racing across land and water at full chat!
Usually they lift them on and off the trailer with a crane. You might want to build a collapsible crane that is wider than the trailer, and set it up when you get to the site you want to use it. there are 4 eyes for the slings that you will hook to the crane for lifting.
Also you need to play with the trim, the joystick on the left handle bar is the trim, try pointing the fin down and that should make it so the air pushes downward wich will give you more handling and put more force twarda the ground, try it in different positions till you get it where you like it, ull have to do the same when ur on water cause its tottaly different then land.. If you have any questions hit me up and I'll happily help ya out..
Make SURE you run the correct oil!! Those have rave valves and they will get gummed up with regular twc-3 outboard oil you have to run a jaso rated oil or if they are direct injected run a DI oil. I would run a rotax full syn oil or a quicksilver jaso rated oil and not the twc-3
Pretty cool, looks like just a bunch of labor to get that out and tighten stuff, loctite is your friend, there, high rev and vibration. I've seen a pair on the river last year in Iowa, they had put a flexible glass windshield on them, they were very fast, but took most of the river to make turns. And could tell they get water in them, I seen the bilge pump in yours, make sure it works good. Get going on the lakes or rivers, they spray water pretty good. Give yourself lots of space for turns and to get use to how they slow down at different speeds. If you on a narrow lake or river, just keep in mind, other boats, forget you can't turn aswell or maneuver as well as a boat.
Best advice on steering thoes is you have to commit to it, lean to whichever side you are turning and PEG the throttle on it and keep the handle bars turned to that direction as u gas it and the ass end will whip it around the direction you want to go, remember you dont have steering unless you have thrust so keep gassing it while you turn or you will just end up going streight.. it takes time and practice, remember lean, turn and throttle is ur best friend on thoes.. lol. You will get the hang of it..
It would be a good idea to use the skid steer to get up all the rocks on the property so you won't have to deal with them anymore. Would be great for now and future projects. Especially on the safety aspects of using the land. That way you can enjoy it without the fear of messing up anything or injuries happening in the future.
The steering ONLY changes the orientation of the craft…you MUST throttle to change in the new direction! If you let off the throttle you will just continue the same foreword direction sideways. Leaning into a turn causes the skirt to drag a little more on the side that you are trying to turn.
Just started watching your videos a week or so ago and have really been enjoying your content. When this video popped up I knew I had to sub. Been wanting a hovercraft like that for many years. Congratulations on your purchase, you are going to have some damn good times with that baby!
"So do you know how a ski-do works?" (LOL) Funny I just mentioned a hovercraft in your trike (I think) video... and now you have one! I helped my father-in-law restore an old Starcraft hovercraft. Was the strangest driving machine ever.
These are great machines! I have the AC4 with a Hirth F23 lift motor.. had to park it last year as the exhaust system needs replacing, I bought all the 316 stainless tube and fittings, just have to tig it together now. Skirts are getting harder to find as the guy who made them in the past went out of business, maybe another year it's going to sit.. good luck!
Joe. That hovercraft is crazy, man!! Wow!! I love it. Cannot wait to see you take it for a rip on the water this summer, that will be exciting. Cool purchase for sure. Excellent video as well. Maybe Jade would would with you on the water as well.
Seems like such a fun thing to mess around with. It really needs reverse thrust so you have a way to brake without having to turn the whole thing around though. For that you'd need a variable pitch prop, which would a a bit of a technical challenge or an expensive investment.
Crazy fast! Like being on a circus ride. Try adjusting the vanes. The Land is a perfect place to build a huge shop to store your power toys. I wonder how they go on deep snow?

Can’t like ur an idol to someone like me
lol they are a blast. I have had a few over the decades including this exact one. To stop on land, snow or water in an emergency you can drop it to the ground but you can also do a 180 and face into the direction you came from. On water this is important of course instead of just stopping and letting the bag lower. It will float but if brackish water etc you mess it up pretty easily. Hope you have major fun and that engine will last you forever with care and maintenance.
These will flip u out pretty easy don’t let off the throttle hard when turning cuz if the skid plates catch the ground in a turn ur prob going overboard
When you are comming to a stop just throttle it down with the thrust engine, dont turn the skirt engine down to stop cause when you do that it scrapes the bottom of the craft and you will eng up tearing the skirt on these, unfortunately there really is no brakes for it but idling the skirt moter down to stop drags the bottom and will ruin the skirt and a few other things, just a word of advice.. Awsome machine, I've had a few of the scats and other machines as I live on the fingerlakes of NY.. FUN toys thoe, great buy..

Another good way to stop on these things (works for airboats too) is to get your rear end aimed in the direction you are traveling and then punch the throttle. Let off when you stop. I'm curious why there are speakers on this craft because you won't hear anything when this thing is running. That locked storage box is likely the radio.
