Honestly i only weightlifted for most of my gym journey and after adding in just pull ups, dips and leg lifts ive never seen a better spike in my strength
I personally don't care for the 1 rep maximum. I think it's cool if you wanna know what you're capable of, but beyond that, I don't think there's much point to it. That said, there's no right or wrong way to work out, do what works for you, lift what you're comfortable with. If you're putting in the work, you're already doing more than most people ever will, and I can respect that. Massive props to everyone out there working out, lifting, running, whatever it is, good on you for getting out there and putting in the work.
Weightlifting along with calisthenics is best imo. Calisthenics builds those stabilizers and erector muscles like no other, leading to a better performance on compound movements
I'm not the strongest, biggest, or fastest. But i do a bit of everything, from calisthenics, strength and hypertrophy weight training, plus long distance and HIIT running and cycling. It's hard to be great at any single thing when you do them all every week, and the gains in any of single practice come slow. But the diversity of exercise is so much more enjoyable to me. Of all the different types of exercise, trail running is my favorite. There's just something about running through a national park that pavement and indoor gyms can't compete with. A park near me had pullup and dip bars on the trails for the best of both worlds, but they tore them down unfortunately. I would like to get back into swimming, basketball, tennis, and baseball too.
One isn’t better (at least for building muscle) all that matters is progressively overloading the muscle with more and more tension, doesn’t matter if you use free weights or body weight tension is tension. You can make arguments for one being easier, or harder, and you could say one provides other inherent benefits, such as saying calisthenics provides better functional movement, but that functional movement can also be achieved using regular weights, you just have to do certain exercises. Problem is many people neglect aspects of using free weights, therefore aren’t taking advantage of them like they could be leading to them thinking calisthenics is better.
for anyone wanting to get in the best overall shape of your life really simply without overthinking, do one day p90x or insanity (or 30 min versions p90x3 / max 30) followed by one day of lifting (taking the muscle to failure). with these different types of workouts you will be in the best shape in total overall (different aspects of fitness) within 3 months. it's not ideal for strength though as that is mostly pattern based skill on specific lifts. but for just looking and feeling your best give it a try! dont underestimate p90x and yoga and plyometrics , etc. it will make you feel amazing. if you've never done an insanity max 30 workout just be prepared cuz that stuff is tough. if you are reading this and decide to do it, 1 day p90x/max30 1 day lifting, i bet in 3 months you will feel incredible and look your best. at least thats what happened to me and i've done all styles of working out. hands down the best. if you want you can also sub out the cardio day with running/sprinting.
Depending on your goals & expectations, these types of training are two completely different exercise programs. An athlete, body builder, power lifter, newbie, female, etc. are not going to workout in the same manner. So, strengths are going to differ depending on the type of exercise. One who power lifts may be able to out lift you on the big 3 lifts, but may lift lighter on certain machines & isolated body parts.
If I could do it over. I'd have started with calisthenics as a kid to build my body weight strength, then I would've gone to weightlifting, now I feel that probably would have led to the most optimal gains possible
As someone who does both, weights let you keep going even after you can't do a single rep of bodyweight, thus get better results. Also can help getting around plateaus.
Idk I think they are both necessary because with the gym you can work muscles that calisthenics leaves out, but if there’s a move like chest pull and pull ups I would prefer pull ups or weighted pull ups because of functionality.
Calisthenics just makes sense. What more could you want out of strength training than having full control over moving your body like that is having a heavier deadlift but not being able to do 10 pull-ups worth, and it's not one of those fitness hobbies like running or pickleball where you can't get buff from it. You can literally get buff as f*** from calisthenics
Why cant we just all agree that the best way to train is to use both forms, since they both have pros and cons, which can basically all be solved by just doing both
body weight excercises are far superior for strength building but not so much for building muscle You can take an open chain excercise, especially on a machine closer to failure and maintain tension in a specific muscle more therefore its easier to grow muscle but bodyweight excercises train you to use your whole body as one functional unit, almost the opposite of what body builders do
Bodybuilder is clearly gonna win. Bodybuilder is pushing the limits of human strength, calestintic effectively brings you up to your own body weight, then it's about stamina
What we do in football is weight lifting for actual strength and calisthenics for speed because you want to be strong but you still need to remind your body that you need to move the weight fast
One isnt better than another they are completely different things

Calisthenics and the big three is the way to go.
I'm late to this, but
Using both is extremely beneficial
In my personal opinion you get best of both worlds if using both.
You can have big muscles and be able to do crazy calisthenics moves.
Comparing two people at different heights and weights 🤦🏾♂️
Honestly dont care which is better, you both look absolutely amazing, can only dream of a similar physique
calisthenics for more upper body, and strength and muscle stability while weight training helps wit more like bone density and grow the smaller muscle groups that calisthenics can't target fully, but weight lifting would help more on lower body for sure more than calisthenics but gymnastics is where it gets crazy fr those rings are no joke
Honestly i only weightlifted for most of my gym journey and after adding in just pull ups, dips and leg lifts ive never seen a better spike in my strength
Being huge and able to do calisthenics would be crazy cool
Do both. For ANY exercise, you get better at what you do consistently. To get good at dips, do dips. To get good at pull-ups, do pull-ups. And so on.
This ain't a competition. Both are solid.
Weightlifting along with calisthenics is best imo. Calisthenics builds those stabilizers and erector muscles like no other, leading to a better performance on compound movements
Both. Both good
You won. He's half your size. You both super strong 💪
I think both are good but one is more useful for everyday things and practicality. The other makes you look massive and you have more muscle to work w
They both win. Do what you love
I actually tried the pull down machine for the first time yesterday and I maxed it out. I do weighted pullups instead.
I definitely feel the assist sitting down for the lat pull. Those things are not designed for anyone under 6 foot
for anyone wanting to get in the best overall shape of your life really simply without overthinking, do one day p90x or insanity (or 30 min versions p90x3 / max 30) followed by one day of lifting (taking the muscle to failure). with these different types of workouts you will be in the best shape in total overall (different aspects of fitness) within 3 months. it's not ideal for strength though as that is mostly pattern based skill on specific lifts. but for just looking and feeling your best give it a try! dont underestimate p90x and yoga and plyometrics , etc. it will make you feel amazing. if you've never done an insanity max 30 workout just be prepared cuz that stuff is tough. if you are reading this and decide to do it, 1 day p90x/max30 1 day lifting, i bet in 3 months you will feel incredible and look your best. at least thats what happened to me and i've done all styles of working out. hands down the best. if you want you can also sub out the cardio day with running/sprinting.
Idk I think they are both necessary because with the gym you can work muscles that calisthenics leaves out, but if there’s a move like chest pull and pull ups I would prefer pull ups or weighted pull ups because of functionality.
yall should do, who has a harder punch? or harder kick?
Best of both world. I like to switch up each week.
It’s all about what goal you’re trying to reach
I seriously thought this was a Trevor Wallace escape
you guys standing up is the break xD
“Calisthenics is way better”
“He’s probably gonna win”
Why cant we just all agree that the best way to train is to use both forms, since they both have pros and cons, which can basically all be solved by just doing both
Bro continiously Curls dumbell
love these guys
Calisthenics + Weightlifting + Cardio
= Perfect physique imo
body weight excercises are far superior for strength building but not so much for building muscle
You can take an open chain excercise, especially on a machine closer to failure and maintain tension in a specific muscle more therefore its easier to grow muscle but bodyweight excercises train you to use your whole body as one functional unit, almost the opposite of what body builders do
Do both....lovely results
Bodybuilder is clearly gonna win. Bodybuilder is pushing the limits of human strength, calestintic effectively brings you up to your own body weight, then it's about stamina
What we do in football is weight lifting for actual strength and calisthenics for speed because you want to be strong but you still need to remind your body that you need to move the weight fast
Quarter bend your knees to have Hammy's activated and use back doing deadlift like motion..works lower back out heavy
Hiccup laugh, in the top ten of laughs 😆
Strength and conditioning plus jiujitsu.. the only work outs I need.
