@nocap7543 he meant what if you are at the edge of a cliff and you have to pull yourself up? what if you are hanging from a really high pole of a building and you need to get out of there? calisthenics is good for those situations but at the same time weightlifting is good if you have to move a car, lift someone up if he is injured or just do farm related work and the list goes on and on.

Speaking from my own personal experience. Calisthenics translates to weight lifting better then weight lifting translates to calisthenics. Yes you read that right. I wanted to work more muscle groups at once and up my cardio to lose weight. I lifted my whole life and felt like my return on investment was dwindling because you can only increase the weight, up the reps, or change the exercise but so much. Bought a pair of gymnastics rings and immediately felt a complete shift in my body’s ability to balance, and move my self through a range of motion. What you don’t use. You lose. I had weak shoulders, fixed in 3 months of ring work outs that are very shoulder dominant, weak hip flexors, couldn’t do a basic L sit or any basic movement above the rings. Had to literally start from the floor then build strength from years of not doing good core work and hamstring mobility. Weak back, could barely get more then 3-4 good form pull ups. I stopped lifting for a year. Strictly body weight, came back to weights this year wanting to regain some size and vary my work outs(and I missed picking up heavy shit). I hit all my old PRs and broke past them within a week. Even my boss who has massive arms and the heaviest curl I’ve ever seen asked me what I did to break my slump. I said “take a break and work on push ups, pull ups, dips, and rows only for 3-6 months”. He did and had the same results.

As someone who's done competitive powerlifting and non-competitive calisthenics, I can say calisthenics is just so much more fun and satisfying. Finally being able to do a new progression is so much more of a sense of accomplishment than just going up in weight. Handstand pushups are way cooler than just overhead pressing your bodyweight, planche pushups are cooler than benching your bodyweight, pistol squats are cooler than barbell squats... and it goes on and on. Calisthenics takes so much more balance, too. It really works all the little muscles as well and you can feel it in your nervous system when you're going really hard (that last part I don't really like though).

Secondly, you probably weight a lot more than your friend that does weightlifting. If you want to compare your strength, you should look at the proportion between the weight and the body weight, not only the "brut" weight. Otherwise, great video, keep it up!

One isn’t better (at least for building muscle) all that matters is progressively overloading the muscle with more and more tension, doesn’t matter if you use free weights or body weight tension is tension. You can make arguments for one being easier, or harder, and you could say one provides other inherent benefits, such as saying calisthenics provides better functional movement, but that functional movement can also be achieved using regular weights, you just have to do certain exercises. Problem is many people neglect aspects of using free weights, therefore aren’t taking advantage of them like they could be leading to them thinking calisthenics is better.

for anyone wanting to get in the best overall shape of your life really simply without overthinking, do one day p90x or insanity (or 30 min versions p90x3 / max 30) followed by one day of lifting (taking the muscle to failure). with these different types of workouts you will be in the best shape in total overall (different aspects of fitness) within 3 months. it's not ideal for strength though as that is mostly pattern based skill on specific lifts. but for just looking and feeling your best give it a try! dont underestimate p90x and yoga and plyometrics , etc. it will make you feel amazing. if you've never done an insanity max 30 workout just be prepared cuz that stuff is tough. if you are reading this and decide to do it, 1 day p90x/max30 1 day lifting, i bet in 3 months you will feel incredible and look your best. at least thats what happened to me and i've done all styles of working out. hands down the best. if you want you can also sub out the cardio day with running/sprinting.

Depending on your goals & expectations, these types of training are two completely different exercise programs.
An athlete, body builder, power lifter, newbie, female, etc. are not going to workout in the same manner. So, strengths are going to differ depending on the type of exercise.
One who power lifts may be able to out lift you on the big 3 lifts, but may lift lighter on certain machines & isolated body parts.
