    I don’t have any white friends either. My friends that have them are either playing dumb, so they don’t intimidate them or acting like court jesters, never sad, always smiling and making them laugh. They do come in handy though because of their access to privilege and money. I’ve seen my friends get their kids tuition paid, get favors called in for them like private school admittance. Hooked up with jobs (never management positions, they’ll never risk you surpassing them), dinners, tag along on vacations etc. I’ve been invited as the plus one by my black friends to their events and when I see how my friends have to code switch in front of them or amp up the funny or play stupid about politics or current affairs, well I can’t do that. And I usually don’t get invited back lol. No vacay or favor is worth all the self sacrifice they require.

    Be prepared for their microaggressions, them thinking that you are the representive for all black people(so they will talk to you about everything a black person does that they don't agree with), and they now feel comfortable with showing you their racial biases. Remember you're the "cool" black person. You're not like the others 😒.

    I had a white friend and we had what I thought was a great relationship. We met at work and we both got our degrees at night so we had a lot in common. She was even at my wedding. I went to her home on several occasions. Her career took off before mine. She had a mentor, I didn’t. Anyway, that didn’t impact our relationship. What impacted our relationship was she got a divorce and her lazy, pot smoking, husband took her to the cleaners! She soon lost her very well paying job and shortly moved to the West coast to be near family. It seems as if now that my career was headed upwards, I could not hear from her. I was always the one calling. After a long time thinking about it, I came to the conclusion that our relationship was working when she had the better job, home, car, etc but when our fortunes turned, our relationship disintegrated. I finally stopped calling her. I still miss her though.

    I'm a white woman and I have noticed in white neighborhoods - people mostly keep to themselves except for a simple hi going to the mail box. When I have lived in mixed communities with Hispanics and blacks they are more friendly and accepting of everyone. Just my experiences.

    Hi! Walter - just discovered your channel the last couple days, on vacation from Boston w/ my husband. I’m a white farm boy from Nebraska; my husband (4yrs) partner (28yrs) is a farm boy from Virginia... met in Boston ‘91. I don’t know... and maybe sometimes I forget. I can’t imagine life without my black friends, black culture, black music. I’m a musician. Life long free-range successful musician;
    Love your channel; and I do think that we all have preconceptions about each other, about “the other”
    and I’m so happy that in my life, my
    “Egg was cracked” at an early enough age (gay farm boy in Nebraska!?) that I’ve been able to enjoy at least some diversity, (I’m sure like every human I still have my blind spots) - thanks for this video.
    I do think that the elephant in the room is that we need to be around each other. It’s a very basic animal getting over fear of “otherness” I’ve been the only white guy at a family reunion of 66(!) black relatives, Quinton, my baby, has been dragged
    by me to a concert where when I asked him how he liked it, and he said “I notice that I’m the only black guy here”. I’ve felt the tension, and then felt it dissipate, and Quinton I
    believe has felt similarly.
    I realize this video is a year old,
    and I’m not a rich white guy, but we
    do OK - if you ever get to Boston
    let us know and come on over for dinner.

    Well, Im a white guy, and I just had Mardi Gras. I invited about 20 people to my party, as I do every year, and 15 people showed up. Four were black, and they were awesome people Ive known for years I invited about 8 black people I'm friends with. One of my closest friends is black. A woman I consider my second mother is also black. I work in Washington DC and I'm more confortable around black people than whites a lot of times. Reason is, I grew up in the inner city in Providence and "wasp" whites always looked down on us, treated my family like crap. The ones that accepted us were the Italians, Portuguese, Irish and French Canadians. Rich whites treat poor whites like crap. In the North there is racism, but it's more subtle hidden under liberaliam. White people are terrified to be accused of racism nowadays, but poor whites are fair game for being treated like crap. I am half Irish, Half French Canadian. Both my parents were high school dropouts and my father was in and out of jail. My parents' generation rarely finished high school, especially first generation Americans. Upper class whites don't associate with whites like myself, and we don't really like them because we know they look down on us. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. There are good white people out there, and we do have black friends. Heck, a lot of us married outside our race. However, please don't assume we are all wealthy and privilaged, many of us are not. People may slam me for this post, but it's honest. I wish you luck on you journey, mon frère.

    The South is still very segregated. Also Whites are very very very intimidated by Blacks when we are successful business owners highly educated with multiple degrees own more than one home drive high end cars kids go to private schools and private or Ivy league universities and I truly believe they are absolutely jealous of Blacks. My neighbors are White have been for over 30 years it's still just a wave. Guess what I we're so UNBORTHERED. Working with them is stressful enough and I just want peace of mind when I'm home. It would be awesome if things could change have changed in 2018. President Barack Obama was highly educated and more than qualified for the highest office in America, THEY DIDN'T LIKE HIM OR HIS FAMILY. That's when I noticed everything reverted back to the old ways. Let's not forget when OJ got a NOT GUILTY verdict. The HATE was REAL. And THEY are still talking about it. These are ACTUAL FACTS and for some reason I don't think THEY want change. For one we are better at EVERYTHING than THEY are. Let a Black man get a little change in his pocket he goes and get a White woman. DISGUSTING! I'm writing a book and will be published soon and speaks on a lot of these topics. THEY don't like minorities black brown green blue red squeaky eyes no eyelids only if you look like THEM. ALL WHITES ARE NOT THE SAME but the majority is. Best of luck in seeking White friendships and relationships. I do enjoy your channel. Blessings.

      The comment on we definitely had colleges first thing was a joke. Historically Caucasian people separated themselves by what education and wealth each family or person had. BUT enough of that. WE ARE THE BEGINNING OF CIVILIZATION. Educate yourself in your colleges research OH! I forgot you guys just go to experiment and experience the education expectations are different. The things that Caucasians believe show African Americans YOUR MISS EDUCATED even though you've gotten this so called degree. CAUCASIANS HAVE BEEN CAUGHT CHEATING on SAT testing and paying to get into these colleges so I CAN TRULY SAY I DON'T BELIEVE CAUCASIANS KNOW ANYTHING, and CAUCASIANS have NEVER TRULY worked for anything. Very lazy human beings. Inventing new gadgets every day so you can sit on your asses and do nothing. Floor sweeper, dishwasher, trash compactor, electric toothbrush. Maid service was for lazy Caucasian women. That fact alone is TRURE and shows that African women are STRONGER and Better. WE HAVE RAISED YOUR CHILDREN AND BEEN RAPED BY YOUR MAN AND STILL TAKEN CARE OF OUR ON FAMILIES. SO YES! We can look at your history of being the damsel in distress and princess status and it shows YOU the Caucasian women as WEAK . We need to stay away from Caucasian people they only want something from us in servitude to make them feel better about themselves and their lives.

    I'm a white guy and I've got something to say! Don't BOTH white and black people have misconceptions about EVERYTHING? (including all races of people) Isn't the intention of the person more important? If you know somebody is a fair person and holds no malice towards you, you tend to cut them more slack.
    I think racism is an issue everywhere but especially in America!
    If I lived in Atlanta, I'd invite you for coffee or over to my home. I think you'd be an interesting guy to talk to but at the same time, a difficult guy. Let's face it, you are a very opinionated and judgemental guy but it would still be interesting!

Unfortunately white people hold the most misconceptions about ALL people of color whether, we're talking about blacks ,Mexicans, Arabs etc. This is a fact because of racism. Also to be fare it's not entirely whites faults, it's the media and racist politionna that helps to Propetuate stereotypes about blacks Mexicans etc. We as black people don't automatically think negative of a white stranger, whites do, why she asked him about buying drugs. ..GET IT! You are in the wrong region of the country. Don't expect to get invited in the South (unless they know you well). I moved to Northern California 10 years ago and it is a different world here...I get invited by everybody...white, Hispanic, Asian, Indian, etc. Go to Australia and it is definitely different down there. I had friends (two black men and a black woman) go to Australia and some white folks invited them out to dinner and paid for everything....complete total strangers. When I was down there, people (whites) kept coming up to me wanting to talk talk talk. Understand that not everyone is the same across the board. All depends on culture (and upbringing).

    Difficult part is even if someone is well meaning, they can often have subconscious notions about a person based on their appearance or race, like the woman you talked about at Starbucks. Hopefully that woman went home and realized what she said and how it was offensive. Maybe she’ll make it her goal to meet some more black people that will challenge her racist views.

In the UK, this kind of thing does not even get the slightest of thought. We are educated enough to know we are all equal and dont even need to raise the issue. Its not an issue. I have to say though, during my time visiting America the white people I met were rather dumb! But the Black Americans were most humble helpful friendly people. It helps most of us keep an open mind to things we have yet to learn about each other. We have to work together, and live together. Languages are shared in public schools. French, German, Italian,Dutch, Arabic are just a selected few. There are even adult school that encourage you to learn different languages. I have to make another comment after reading a post from one of your subscribers. I got to thinking. I have an older brother who lives in California. He and his wife routinely get invited to dinners by well-off whites. Granted, his son has been in a long term relationship with a very nice young white lady, but still, he gets invited to lots of dinners. I think he and his wife had Thanksgiving dinner at either his son's home or his son's girlfriend parents home. It really is a Southern thing (in the worst possible way imaginable). Whites in the south are generally extremely prejudiced against blacks, racially motivated in all mannerisms and actions, and enjoy being that way. It doesn't matter how nice and smart your are, if your are black they will treat you like a old shoe. It ain't never gonna' change. We blacks have to change our circumstances and environments.

White people can be just as wild as black people, except a lot of my white friends do things like invite me to their parents lake house at exotic locations, hunting (I don't like Killing and guns), and extreme sports where there is a potential to get hurt or die. I have a coworker seriously training for his Mt. Everest climb. I find people just have misconceptions and ultimately everyone wants to live a fulfilling life.

    I applaud you for wanting to step out of your comfort zone. The problem with the races is that we don't take the time to get to know each other. We're left in the dark about one another and only go by assumptions, stereotypes and generalizations. Every white person is not the same just as every black person is not the same. This country is changing and becoming more diverse. I also think where you are in the south is different than the East and West coast. I think with the history of racism in the south some people are still distrustful and apprehensive.

    Recently came across your channel and I have to say you touch on some really good topics. Hella funny too. As it relates to this topic partly it has to do with living in the south. Being from Jersey and now living in the south there is an obvious separation when it comes to race and how different races interact with one another. Truth be told some of my closest long term friendship's with white people have been with those from European countries not American whites. European whites are different from American whites and it's just a different mentality. Not always the case just in my experience.

  • @amarejabali2689
    @amarejabali2689 7 років тому +1

    Walter, its not you, its the culture difference. Actually, most of us black folks don't understand white folks and their culture. Black culture is emotional driven (we are taught to operate from the heart(gut); be warm, kind and receptive to everyone, regardless of who they are). White culture is transactional driven (unemotional with a big grin; they treat you based on what they visually see, what they know of you ( it is usually not good) and not from the heart(gut). White folks are not receptive to you because there is nothing they need from you (some blacks can be this way too, but generally not). In order for white folks to associate with you outside the gym, you must fall within a transaction-other than an emotion need, unlike emotional black folks. You should note that white folks treat each other as transactions. Read Michael Eric Dyson, "Tears We Cannot Stop" ( a sermon to white America), which book will open your eyes to how white culture operate and will help you understand white culture.

    Just saw "The Rachel Divide" on Netflix. Can't believe how many people LOVE to HATE her! Do people really want to have an open dialogue about race and racism and actually be an open minded HUMAN Being or do they just want to bully another person into a suicidal state by discriminating against how she identifies. Please talk it out, get therapy and stop saying "Nah, I aw rite"! then stuff these feelings only to later come out so hateful that the anger appears like some possessed demon from a zombie apocalypse.
    As Rodney King once famously said "can't we all just get along!"

You look amazing with your muscles and you got a BMW. But if ATL is not making you happy maybe Id would think about moving. You have your health and your body is on point seems like you got money. This so call white friend I was asked to be his best man at his first wedding ! I accepted " his first marriage only lasted about 4 yrs " after 2 kids they divorced " Second wife I met even attended their wedding " I would call them from time to time even visit them " One summer day I was out in my summer car and stopped by " I had met his parents before" met his mother before his dad " she seemed to open up to me from day one " in short I knew her much longer than the father " at any rate his parents had stop by to visit " the first thing that rolled of his fathers tongue was Quote : WHAT ARE YOU DOING DRIVING A CAR LIKE THIS ? Walter it was like he was saying I didn't deserve to drive a car like I was driving " I didn't get belligerent with him " I just responded with you're not the first person that's asked that question " and he really wasn't " Lol..... He would really lose his mind if he seen my brothers collection of cars couple of speciality corvettes just to name a few " Its so crazy the way some white folks think " I've work for what I've purchased I don't sell drugs Im a stationary engineer went to trade school for it but I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of knowing " just decided to leave him guessing " By the way my brother works a legit job as well .

My son dates both black and white young ladies. Our house is always open and over-spilling with love and laughter of all races. I cry with black friends in times of pain. I rejoice with them in times of celebration. We correct each other's kids when need be. We eat good food together and drink cheap wine. I have been at every graduation, wedding, funeral, and child birth of my black friends and they have been to all of mine. I've never lived in Atlanta. Well Walter, it depends....I live in downtown Atlanta and have made the acquaintance of several of my White neighbors, so I guess it depends on who's around you too! I would say that ATL is quite segregated, mentally/and in attitude if not just physically. Being from New Orleans, I lived in a diverse area of the city, so while growing up pitures with my friends look like a "United Colors of Benetton" poster with Asians, Blacks and Whites hanging out, but when I moved here, I did notice that folks tend to "stick to their own kind"...it's getting better with more folks moving here who are willing to mingle with others...but lets just say that it's slowly, very slowly moving from an "Oil and Water" mixutre to "A salad bowl" for some....
