@@mugwump7049 It means both things in a very literal sense. It means "the metal gold", "the color gold", "a shine or glimmer" (noun only), and "a high standard". I think the definitions came about together, like "orange"... polished gold shines like the sun, and especially at dawn and dusk the sun makes the sky golden. In english, you might get a "drop of golden sun" to make your skin "golden brown". TLDR: I think you were mistaken but ALSO correct.

I never played the N64 but I assure you that those levels are in the PSX, my favorite of the Quake 2 games, because I grew up playing Quake II on the PSX.
It's hard to find a way to describe the level of satisfaction, joy and fun I get playing these mods, cause is just so good and enjoyable. With those new games is normal to see good graphics but for some reason I find the levels design on DOOM "shocking and amazing" even though is not 4k but still is beautiful and very relaxing looking.
Only reason I'm not rushing out to download the Ashes demo RIGHT NOW is because I don't want to spoil myself for when the full things comes out later. Ashes has seriously been one of my favorite games over the past few years, stoked that there's more of it on the horizon!
Been waiting for a new Chapter for Ashes, so great to see this beauty on it's way! Hoping it ties in with Chapter 1 as a huge megawad, changes to bike & seeing extra weapon upgrades will be great for Chapter 1. It's got enough repayable factor already, this will be that extra cherry on top 😋

Ashes Afterglow: I wonder if this mod uses Strife as a base. The enemy on fire and the NPC dialogue options seem familiar. So it is a mod of a mod? LOLS
Strife's reverse engineering is a fascinating tale and I imagine most of that code has been baked into a lot of projects that only gently brush up against it. But yeah, I have the same wondering whenever I see the dialogue. And the "I'm on fire." death. :D
As others have said gzdoom uses a lot from all the doom engine games, it's why mods like guncaster work so well with everything from doom through to strife
If I'm not mistaken the original was released with the Strife IWAD because I guess it is public domain, and that way they could call it a "free game" as opposed to a mod (or something like that)
Man, I still have a doomed demo disk from 2006 in one of those, tightly zipped and unmoved since then. It has Don's challenge with it's demos, Immoral conduct, and a bunch of those spin offs, some of the very first TCs for DooM and technical mods for the original Edge and ZDoom releases, pretty nuts.
never have i ever thought i would see dinosaur canyon recreated in doom, but the absolute madman behind treasure tech actually did it. the lancer delta is a pretty cool nod to sega rally, too. this guy definitely knows his sega racing games.
The funnest mod I've tried lately was something like Counterstrike Mars Invasion. It was a hoot for just playing vanilla style. It was pretty OP, but God it was fun using real weapons with realistic load times in DOOM 1.
I have just spent a night trying to make Doom RPG and Doom Roguelike Arsenal work together while showing health UI (the only way to do it was to use "screenblocks 11" console command which I found 4 hours after suffering...) I am so happy UA-cam recommended me your video/channel. You've earned a sub, and I thank you for a great video, it helped me get over the PTSD from yesterday.

Ashes is the best mod i've ever played. I hope it gets done fairly soon and doesnt get dropped. Also i think its worthy of being a stand alone game like Hedon
I was already excited for the prospect of Treasure Tech getting its own map pack; having Batandy on the project is the cherry on top. Having the Golden Souls dev is an absolutely perfect choice.
For those wanting to play Ashes Afterglow, upgrade the shotgun first. Seriously, that bayonet lets you lunge great distances. Combine that with jumping and you can cross massive gaps and enter certain areas or secrets earlier and/or easier than normal.

When I first got into playing Doom 2 mods I (for whatever reason) had an "obsession" with trying to make Doom 2 look and play like Quake 2. I would endlessly search online for gameplay mods or level wads inspired by Quake 2 and all that but nothing hit and I could never really find what I was looking for but maybe with this Quake 2 Total Conversion mod it may just be what I was looking for all those years ago.
There is a mod/sourceport that adds 3d models for weapons, enemies and pickups. Makes it quite quake-esque. But why, it doesn't feel right. personally I play on GZDoom with lots of the fancy effects enabled, but the enemies have to be crunchy, unfiltered sprites. Give me anisotropic filtering all day, but don't make stuff blurry and rounded.

Some Quake inspired wads I used to play weren't balanced very well when I played with the gameplay mod but I wasn't sure if it was because of the wads design or the mod itself but then again I used to use 2 different source ports which both gave me different results. To give you a bit of an idea for example if I loaded up brutal doom on GZDoom it would run fine but if I ran it on Zandronum it would run completely different with new enemies I wouldn't see before but to answer your question as to why I guess it's because I wanted to play Quake 2 without it actually being Quake 2 if that makes sense...?
Ashes seems to be built more on Strife, which used the Doom engine. Strife had dialogue with choices and item usage, so if you used Strife as your platform you’d already have those features ready to modify.
I just saw a Doom/Warhammer 40k cross, think its called Doom 40k. Could you take a look at it next? Also, if you wouldn't mind a revisit, I would love to see a new look at Colourful Hell.
I just played the Quake 2 TC demo and color me impressed! That almost fell like idTech2 but with a few quirks of GZDoom in there. Also, what are you talking about not having ammo at the end of the unit? I had no problem whatsoever.
Main developer of Quake 2 TC here. The problem with ammo shortage is because most enemies are generated randomly, i.e: "demons" can spawn that kind of dog, a berserk, a gunner or that stupid guy with the force-shield. My intention was to include only the same enemies from the first Quake 2 PC unit (although a few in larger quantities). But when these tougher guys randomly shows up, they can pretty much dry up all your bullets quite easily. All that will be fixed for the next release, as this was only a demo.

Gzdoom adopted a lot of strife features such as dialogue and menus. A lot of newer mods use it
It uses Doom 2, and as the others have said, GZDoom has Strife features as well has Hexen and Heretic, and then some.
