I adore the fact that his grace and angelic moments are contrasted by the darker tones of the song and his tattoos. I find it beautiful and simply shows the artistic nature of the white purity of the light and his movements and the darker song. A++
Almost 3 decades of endless practice, devotion, discipline. A lost childhood, and sacrificing a family life...and you still have no chance of achieving this ability. He is a once in a lifetime dancer.
It was like 5 years ago when it first came out. The better question is have you see the music video for Hozier’s song Movement? He actually uses this dancer in the video.
I'm not sure how many times I've watch this piece... but Sergei makes me cry. His soul is searching for life and since this video with a partner and two children with plenty of money he's finally found himself and the man he wants to be. He can choose for himself and not be restricted to a certain narrow choice of classical ballet. I watched Misha Baryshnikov go through the same struggle and they have both found their wings. I only wish that Rudolf Nureyev had been born 50 years after he was. He ended up disappearing of AIDS, vanishing before our eyes. I'm happy for Sergei and his partner. Vive l'amore! So precious a gift as his can only be expressed with love. It has taken him a while to figure out what he wants and he has found it. This video was the chrysalis that gave us the butterfly he has become.
@@cl0v3rg4rd3nNot completely. Those leaps are ballet, from his stent as a ballet superstar. And the piroettes (sp). It is storytelling that makes it contemporary. In the end, who cares, he's spectacular.
I studied ballet from the age of 7 till 11. Looking back, they were the most beautiful years of my life. I only stopped ballet because I started high school (in England you start HS at 11yrs old), and a bunch of kids found out what I did. I never hid that I studied ballet, yet at the same time I never advertised it either; it was nobody else's business. The bullying started on 2 fronts; 1. Being a British Indian and 2. Studying ballet. The names, the beatings and the apathy from the teachers were me down. Now as a near 40 year old man, I wish I had the mental fortitude to just ignore the hate. I know I would never have been a good as this dude, but I do know that I would have been proud of myself.
You can be proud of yourself in any case: I bet nothing was easy for you as a teenager in England. You love music and dance: you are richer then many men and women. Do not regret: enjoy. From Italy
I actually started crying his movements just pure emotion I don't know anything about ballet but this..is just art there is no other explanation I can find
Kayleigh Wilkinson you couldn't have explained it better. Very emotional, and deep. Doesn't take a choreographer to feel the power of great meaningful dancing. 👍🏽
This man's physical and artistic perfection are undeniable, however, they disguise a much darker side to his psyche and emotions in his public statements that speak to the struggles today of too many men and women. He is both breathtaking and heartbreaking!🙏
Sergei is extremely unique in his dancing and himself! He gives such a beautiful representation of dancing and ballet! If I could I would watch him dance all day because he has so much grace and lightness in his body! The way he moves is all telling a story....his story! What a beautiful person! Sergei is probably one of my favourite dancers of all time!
Nope. The Dodge Challenger is the definition of beauty ;) Just kiddin'. Hes great. I dance ballet since i am 4 years old. I am 14 (almost 15) now. But hes to good.
I´ve heard this song hundreds, if not thousands of times, but never saw this video, even though I knew of it. And man, things like this are just ... different. I don´t know what to call it but words like otherworldly and divine come to mind. There are just some things in this world that, like Polunins performance in this video, bring tears to my eyes. Not happy tears, not sad tears, just ... tears. Tears that can´t help but rain down my face because things like this are too beautiful for me to bear. It hurts to witness something this beautiful, my heart aches, my mind gets overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of untamed emotions this sets free within me and yet, I can´t bring myself to look away. The only coherent thought my mind can muster up to describe something like this, is a wild screeching of THIS IS ART.
Hozier had distanced himself from Sergei for his homophobic and sexist rants in March 2019. It makes me really sad when I found his homophobic comments on Instagram.

I have watched this video several times. I came to find it due to his film. Sergei Polunin has God-given talent. The kind we see rare in a lifetime. I cried for him as I watched his story. I have compassion and understanding for what it's like to be dragged or driven by one's passion. It is a double-edged sword. So easily we can be tortured by our love, our passion. What we excel at isn't always what brings us joyful balance even though it does bring us joy at times because it is part of our most inner deepest parts. We wouldn't be full without it. Yet somehow it can tear us apart too. This piece is breathtaking! Mr. Polunin is a master at his trade and he has made a deep impression on me. It's true he defies all laws of gravity. His will for practice and perfection and dedication to his family are commendable. My wish for you Mr. Polunin is Health, Peace, and Happiness in your days ahead. Know you have accomplished great things and are admired for them the world over.
This makes me cry every time I watch it. Sergei is the best male dancer of all time. He is just incredible. This is heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time and it’s just so moving. If you watch this and feel nothing….. ugh. From 3:12 on to the end- when he does the pirouette is just my absolute favorite part. ❤
This is my dark night of the soul go to piece. Sergei and this incredible choreography represents for me, the brokenness in the world right now. I wonder how he's coping with the tragedy in both his homeland of Ukraine and his heartland, Russia. It must be so difficult for artists like Sergei
I absolutely adore this. It's my favorite male ballet video. The church like building is such an excellent background for his tormented soul in prayer. Sergei Polunin is one of the best ballet dancers of all time. Here he combines the traditional with the modern in a heart rending, personal, meaningful dance.

Beautifully powerful music and choreography danced by glorious Sergei Polunin. David LaChapelle kicked butt with this, and the setting is perfect. I never get tired of seeing this video.
Ballet is so painfully beautiful. As a dancer, you are trying so hard to become better, and you fight so hard that if you’re not careful you just end up ripping yourself apart. Many people don’t see the pain behind a dancer’s eyes, or the feet underneath the pointe shoes. This elegant torture is captured here perfectly. The starving artist and never being good enough
I played this daily several years ago. I was obsessed with the beauty, the passion of Sergei. Hozier is equally as raw. Just incredible three year later. I'm still enchanted. Thank you All.

splendid. The culmination of beginning to hone your skills at age 3. At age 10 he leaves his home for advanced training. At age 19 he was the youngest principal male dancer to ever join the Royal Ballet. He excels there until he reaches the point of dancing the best he ever could in that realm and breaks away to pursue different dimensions and expressions of dance, This project filmed in Hawaii is powerful. .I love to watch him.His sheer skill is amazing.

Sergei Polunin, the principal male ballet dancer, transcends the ordinary, emerging as a zeitgeist of dance. His artistry is a harmonious blend of grace, strength, and precision, flawlessly executing the rigorous and traditional ballet positions and movements. He breathes new life into these forms through a contemporary piece by Hozier. Sergei’s emotive performance is a testament to his exceptional training and his innovative approach to the ballet discipline, elevating it to a new echelon of modern interpretation. His dance is a poignant narrative of the human condition, a visceral embodiment of the struggles faced by those marginalized for their differences and same-gender love. The haunting lyrics of Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” are given physical form in Sergei’s movements, a cathartic release of the anguish within, as he seamlessly melds classical ballet with contemporary expression.
I have seen this when the song was in the top 10. Something about this performance drew me back to it today. Every one of Sergei's movements is controlled. Every movement is strong and beautiful. The song is haunting. Sergei is magnificent.
He isn't hiding his bruised feet. As graceful as it is, he pays a price to give us this stunning, artistic expression...HIS expression. HIS choreography. Thank you and Amen!
I have no words to express what I feel when I watch this! His dance tells a story of his emotional life! I bow down toward his strength of expression! Congratulations mr. Polunin you are a wave of faith, hope, and a balance in our generation than expresses life after tragedy! God bless you!

The haunting lyrics of Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” are given physical form in Sergei’s movements, a cathartic release of the anguish within, as he seamlessly melds classical ballet with contemporary expression.
I think this is the most beautiful piece of dance I've ever seen. I'm so moved it felt almost transcendental 💖
This dude must be in PHENOMENAL shape. Seriously impressive.
Thanks, Replika.
I have seen this when the song was in the top 10. Something about this performance drew me back to it today. Every one of Sergei's movements is controlled. Every movement is strong and beautiful. The song is haunting. Sergei is magnificent.
This takes my breath away. Absolutely beautiful
He isn't hiding his bruised feet. As graceful as it is, he pays a price to give us this stunning, artistic expression...HIS expression. HIS choreography. Thank you and Amen!
Simply incredible.
such a beautiful dance and the hidden meanings in the movement are simply amazing to watch.
Полунин великолепен, просто замечательный! Впечатляет!
I have no words to express what I feel when I watch this! His dance tells a story of his emotional life! I bow down toward his strength of expression! Congratulations mr. Polunin you are a wave of faith, hope, and a balance in our generation than expresses life after tragedy! God bless you!

Beautifully done. Very powerful!
Nostalgia... I heard this about seven years ago. I still can't believe the nostalgia I have right now... My mum showed me this and I just binge-watched it repeatedly...
I cried so much, his presence and ability to pass emotions is amazing.
Wow, great artist! Thanks for uploading.
Absolutely Beautiful Talent!
