The other fun thing about the Stunner is how it relies heavily on the opponent selling it, so it looks a bit different each time. Some people just crumple, some people jolt backwards, and the Rock flops around like a madman. It adds an extra level of enjoyment, judging how good the sell is.
how Orton sold it when he ate one during the elimination tag match at Survivor Series 2003 is pretty great, the way he hung half his body out the ring was such a good shot lmao

@@kaybeeva No, that would be Alex. Omega dressed up as Akuma because he's a note recognised character and it fit better with The Young Bucks dressing up at Ryu and Ken.

Honestly shocked you left out Bret Hart and the Sharpshooter. Everything he did during a match was telling a story how to get to that move. Even after learning wrestling was "pre-determined" Bret made me still believe it was real.
Considering that Bret as a heel on WCW locked it on a cast member of MADtv (Sasso sold it like a champ) on MADtv to further push him being a heel, makes the move even that much more feared.
It’s because, and try not to take this the hard way, the sharpshooter is a basic submission move. Now I’m not downplaying Brett Hart when I say that, his matches were alway 10 stars and his stories were ALWAYS amazing. But his chosen finisher wasn’t really “memorable”. Memorable as in….it didn’t make you go “holy hell how did he do that!?”. Cause let’s be real we were putting our friends and siblings in sharpshooters back then lol.
I remember Raven talking about his finisher the Evenflow/Raven Effect DDT in an interview and how he would do the theatrics before pulling it off to allow guys the time to reverse it. He also demanded his opponents do a flat bump on their faces to sell the move as he felt them rolling through took away some of the danger.
The Evenflow variation was f*ckin' poetry. There's that split-second of a possible escape (Tommy Dreamer's reversals were probably the best) and then he pulls the opponent into the maneuver to add velocity to it. Most DDTs put emphasis on the snap and/or the drop, but Raven's had momentum as well...

Always liked the twist Regal put on his arm trap neckbreaker, the Regal Cutter. The setup just looked more painful than other Cutter/Stunner variations from where I sat on my couch.
I remember hearing the first Ganso Bomb really was a botched move. Kawada went for a power bomb, but he couldn't lift Misawa properly due to being tired and apparently having *broken his arm* earlier in the match. Misawa tried to reverse the powerbomb into a Frankensteiner, but something went wrong and Kawada kept holding him up. Then either Kawada finally gave out or decided to go through with the powerbomb even though Misawa was now out of position, dropping Misawa on his head.
Considering the fact that Kawada had a broken arm that turned a powerbomb botch into the devastating Ganso Bomb, further use of it definitely required that his opponent figure out a way to lessen the blow,
Stunner is known as best wrestling move or in conversation because of Rock. Rocks selling(overselling too) of that thing of beauty which you can see in professional wrestling only.

Jericho's size was not why he was overlooked during the late Attitude Era, it was who he was going against. Stone Cold, the Rock were the top two for me and I believe most, Undertaker, Triple H, Kurt Angle were all third, fourth and fifth and who came what could be debatable and the results would be right. Shawn, Eddie, Edge and many others were not super heavy weights, so claiming it was his size is well bullshit. It was a stack card of superstars that not even Hogan with his backstage politics could nudge his way to the top.
I might be alone here but I have no time for the Judas Effect and can't understand why anyone is OK with it. The basics of a good finisher are that it should be something that either no else uses the move *not* as a finisher, or yours looks like it hits harder than theirs. So if you have Kevin Nash doing a powerbomb from his (supposed) 7 feet tall that's ideal. Likewise Lashley can get away with a move as basic as a full nelson because of his crazy physique and JBL with a lariat because it looked/was stiff as f*ck. For moves done by fewer wrestlers (tombstone piledriver, sharpshooter, etc) it doesn't matter so much so long as they look reasonably painful. Other moves show off a mix of agility and power like the claymore or buckshot lariat, and smaller wrestlers can use top rope craziness... but a back elbow?! On pretty much any show that Jericho used it to finish an opponent, you would probably have seen someone bigger, stronger or heavier striking with an elbow without getting a pin. It's not quite AJ Lee winning with a banzai drop but it always looks so weak to me.
I think similar to Cody even Randy's stunt before hitting the RKO (banging the floor with his hands) makes it more interesting than a random diamond cutter.. RKO should have made Simon's list!
It's not bad hearing Simon talk about finishers but I'm not seeing the "secret genius" bit behind these, just obvious details. I mean #8 was just "JBLs clotheline is stiff" imma bail there.
