I watched an interview with Warren where he talks about how he came up with this tune. Frank Zappa of all places, showed him an exercise. He took the exercise and worked it into this tune.
I love that you showed how to play the little bluesy fill. Everyone else only shows how to play the main riff(incorrectly most of time). I cannot state how much I love you man!
You're right, he's the only dude I've seen even acknowledge the first little solo fill in the beginning. Pretty sure he had the best addicted to that rush breakdown as well
Thank you for what you do and I love that Charvel I love the color.
Beautiful guitar, great playing
Your hard rock tutorials are the best 👏👏
Oh damn! Another one I'll be coming back to later! Believe it ir not I actually got to hold the snake skin guitar that's in the video for this song. It was a long long time ago; I was working for the TSA at Burbank airport and was screening a guitar & case. I had no idea who's guitar it was when the skycap brought it over but when I opened the case I just about shit my pants. I looked at the tag; saw Warren's name and RAN out of the screening area to see if I could spot him but he was already gone.
Instantly recognizable. Great lesson. Thank you
Very informative, just what I was looking for in that song. Thanks
What's up my friend? What a great riff. I could spend all day making it my own, thanks million's. Cheers.
Nice Charvel bro. Great playing too!
I remember those days very well : ALL the major Hard Rock bands of that era did their “take” of their more Bluesier sides all thanks to Stevie Ray Vaughan. The ‘In Step’ album was hugely successful for SRV & DT , it was obvious he inspired Ratt, Van Halen, Crue, Cinderella, etc. to put out more Bluesier material. SRV made Blues “cool” again - in fact Dickie Betts said it was SRV who brought the love of the Blues back to the marketplace - thus helping to inspire the Allman Brothers to regroup and record a new album etc. What a great time to be alive , the 80’s - wouldn’t trade those days for the world.
where are you hearing a srv influence in van halens music?
@@knightfall9394 I think ‘Finish What ya Started’ was a nod to the current Blues trend in Rock bands at the time. Not saying Ed was “trying” to sound like SRV
Thanks again!
Hope you could do the solo for this as well! Or the solo for Top Secret, which in my opinion, is one of Warren's best solos. Cheers!
Great job!! Learned a lot of Ratt riffs but not this one. Love it, thanks man! 🎸👍🏼

Love that lesson mate,I'm Scottish too pal Aberdeen mate, and love that blues sound ur lesson is awesome ur a great guitarist mate, can I ask u how u manage to get standard tuning with the locking nut,I've tried but when I tune I clamp the nuts down and it sounds out of tune soon as I take nuts off it's back in tune haha any tips mate what to do
Wahey! 🏴 😀 thanks man appreciate the kind comments! Watch for tightening the locking nuts too much so they pull the strings sharp, also make sure the strings are nicely stretched etc. before locking down. You could also try tuning up slightly flat before locking to compensate. Good luck!
@@mastertheguitar thanks so much mate love ur guitar lesson mate away to practice this tonight I love it
Great lesson and love that Charvel - did you mod it at all?
