I haven't been this invested in a video series since the original playthrough. Nor have I laughed as hard.Loving every minute of this. But the BIG challenge is Isla Pena - Jurassic mode. I have only seen two video UA-camrs tackle it. I certainly haven't been able to 5 star it.
That was the best about those challenge maps. Spending so many hours on it, breeding the last animals (on your last money) and then the transmission screen starts... Made it!!
Can't wait for a custom park with these new tools!!

Quick Question - have you ever tried Easy? I think the par times for Easy are unachievable (lays down gauntlet!)

Obviously you have already beaten the other challenges for the other islands. But personally I love watching these videos and I love your commentary and humor. Could you do jurassic difficulty for all the islands.

BIS, I noticed you had to check online for the dinos social needs.
Here's a big thing that's usually overlooked: If your dinosaur is 100% or has enough percentage to where you can start adding Social Genes, if you go into the edit genome screen and go down to the social genes, it tells you what the social requirements are even if you haven't hatched one yet.
This is such a useful tip, just started doing this in my own jurassic challenges
I never tried Challenge Mode until 1.8, and I decided to go straight to Jurassic difficulty and following Best's advice. But every single time I start the first couple of dinosaurs immediately get sick and I have no money for a Ranger Station or Research Center, six times starting over completely and six times they'd get sick ten seconds after the second dinosaur is released.
Don’t get a Camarasaurus?
Or use the newly available (i.e not at the time of this playthrough) forest removal gene thingy from Dr Wu’s secrets. That helps muchly.

I really enjoy these playthroughs and your tips for reaching 5 stars are always very helpful! However when I played, your technique of ignoring dinosaur visibility and having low capacity did not work for me - everything else was at 95-100% and due to the low vis and no hotels I had a facility rating of 2 stars until I fixed this.

BIS, just so you remember lol. If you go to the Social genes than you can see their Social Needs and Population (In regards to the Apato)

You can check a dino's pop and social by modifying the genome and going over to habitat, stress or social. If they are just going just have the info there I don't see why they want you to incubate it first. At least unlock it at 100% genome.
If I recall correctly, you've done other playthroughs of Jurassic difficulty; can they be found anywhere? I'm curious about how to strategize on all the islands.

I've had my Indoraptors refuse to eat even when they're the only dinosaur in the enclosure. Putting in another feeder was the only way to fix it.

When I'm only a few points away from 5 stars, I simply save, crank up my hatchery with speedy grow and breed a T. rex or Indominus rex. That often gives the last kick I need.
Jurassic difficulty on sorna is a nightmare. I had the hardest time getting to the 2 star mark due to “dinosaur variety” I practically did all herbivores I had at the time
Can you tell me why you want to go for a Monorail eventually? I read multiple times that visibility and transport doesn't count for facility rating at all
well i heard that monorail count but very little, like if some builds are in yellow you will have 5 stars.
but visibility dont count in nothing, but you have to get one to your park start working.
Ok so this play through is great for the main island playthroughs. I will definitely use this for the jurassic modes I haven't done yet! I would really love to see you do a play through on nublar north and sanctuary on jurassic level. I've tried nublar north twice on jurassic and failed abysmally. I'm currently doing sanctuary on jurassic and have been struggling.
Nublar North is a lot easier if you sell off most of the dinosaurs from the beginning and keep only those that can be contained in a small enclosure together. That early game money boost helps a lot.

The problem is that the challenge mode is a fundamentally broken difficulty and the "challenge" comes from the sheer randomness of the contracts and resources and not from anything the player has agency over. Personally I said to heck with this after my dinosaurs started dying in Sanctuary when I was 1000 points from victory and ran out of digsites to harvest from.
This is exactly what today needed.
I did this over a three day span and it felt like he was doing it over three days I otherwise enjoyed it and I saw the video thinking oh it’s probably a half an hour but no it was three hours and I thought well I’ve already committed I shall finish this.
I am not sure how you do it, but I am glad that you were able to complete this mode. Five stared all the other islands including Nublar North but said enough was enough trying to get Sanctuary to five stars on Jurassic Difficulty. I was 1,000 points away and my dinosaurs started to die off one by one and I just had enough trying to keep it afloat. The contracts I kept getting never worked in my favor and more than once I was about ready to break my controller due to how much stuff kept popping up again and again in the park. Mainly that I was running out of funds and my dinosaurs just would not stay alive any longer. Never going to play another Frontier game after this nonsense.
uff jurassic mode its like that, in one sec its good and entertening, but them all start to break and you lose in seconds.

For somebody who just started a playthrough on pena,is the dilo a great start or should i get sauropods?
Jayden Jackson i finished my jurassic difficulty isla pena earlier today. i only had 5 sauropods; 5 diplodocus in an enclosure with 3 ceratosaurus and 12 dilophosaurus. and then i had 12 more dilophosaurus in an enclosure with 2 baryonyx later in the park. aside from that, i had a few herbivore enclosures and a 8 deinonychus-2 metriacanthosaurus enclosure and i got 5 stars relatively easily. ELECTRIFIED CONCRETE FENCE IS CRITICAL for keeping those deinonychus under control

Jayden Jackson yeah make sure you research the electrified heavy steel before you get the dilos. the only fences you’ll need are the one it gives you (for all herbivores), electrified heavy steel, and electrified concrete in case you want a stronger carnivore later on such as baryonyx or metriacanthosaurus. Wetland rex looks somewhat like the JP3 T. rex. i love all the green skins in the game so i’m kinda biased for it. it’s the only reason i went through the hell of doing the challenge on that island.

I know this is asking for a lot but can you please do Jurassic mode on Isla Pena(the smallest island. I forgot the name) because I have no clue what to do because it is so small (shut up no jokes)
XAj_Rex 2.0 i finished mine earlier today. start off with basic herbivore enclosures in the beginning, and be VERY space-conscious. CRAM EVERYTHING. Make enclosures as small as the dinosaurs in them will allow. My starting area (off of 1 Hammond Creation Lab, using the gate setup like BestInSlot) ended up having : Enclosure 1: 8 Struthiomimus, 4 Corythosaurus, 3 Huayangosaurus, 3 Chungkingosaurus. Enclosure 2: 4 Dracorex, 2 Crichtonsaurus, 2 Ankylosaurus. Enclosure 3: 2 Archaeornithomimus, 7 Edmontosaurus, 4 Tsintaosaurus, 6 Gallimimus. Enclosure 4: 12 Dilophosaurus, 5 Diplodocus, 3 Ceratosaurus. Start with the herbivore enclosures, slowly building them up to population maxes, get your money, and Basically pump out dilophosaurus as much as you can to get to the next star and start bringing in higher profit. don’t waste any money. after you get the diplodocus and ceratosaurus in with the dilos, money becomes less of a problem as long as you keep going for fossils and have the dig yield upgrade. after that, I did another enclosure with 2 baryonyx and (you guessed it) 12 dilophosaurus. and then a couple more herbivore enclosures (just whatever is easiest to put together for you) personally i had one with a bunch of iguanodon and parasaurolophus and another with trike, sino and torosaurus. and i got to 5 stars as i finished putting the 12th dilophosaurus into the enclosure with the baryonyx. build your power stations mainly at the top left of the map (in the peninsula) and your fossil/expedition near the arrival point and HAVE A MONORAIL LATER IN THE GAME. GOT TO SQUEEZE THOSE IN TO KEEP FACILITY RATING UP AT 5 STARS. You will need to put a few more power stations here and there in the larger portion of the map near the bottom, which is where i had the baryonyx-dilo enclosure and the 2 herbivore enclosures (para/iguanodon & trike/sino/toro). When it comes to fences and carnivores.. what is the best to use in a breakout scenario?
I propose some science... how long does it take for small, medium and large carnivores to breakout of each of the fence types??
See what is best to use to contain our dinosaurs during storms etc on challenge mode.
If they have a comfort threshold lower than 70%, they basically never breakout during storms. If you are worried about that, you can use genes to keep problematic dinosaurs from breaking out (if you have the Dr. Wu DLC). Alternatively, you could stick to the Ceratosaurs, Herrerasaurus, Carnatorus, and Metriachanthasaurus for carnivores. Small carnivores will have a hard time breaking out of electrified steel fences and concrete fences, but may be able to do it in 3 or 4 storms. Higher level fences will keep them inside basically 100% of the time.
The dinosaurs almost ALWAYS try to break out through fences that are close to people. So if you put good fences where there are people (or other exhibits) you can prevent most breakouts. I actually had a huge exhibit with sauropods, Ceratosaurs, and Dilos that had electrified fences in the front, but only the weakest fences in the back. The Dilos couldn't break through the electrified fences, but sometimes broke through the back fences. But they were so far from any people, they got bored and stayed in the exhibit. This makes me think that large exhibits kept FAR from people are effective ways to keep carnivores at bay. If you have a large and expansive map, you can choose to fence in only the people and let large carnivores live in the empty space behind exhibits, away from guests. They won't be able to break through fences and attack people that way. (Did this with Albertosaurus in the Sanctuary Island map in the Claire campaign for great results.)
