    Update! I initiated a return through Amazons return feature and within a day UPS picked up the fake pruners free of charge. Amazon, not the seller issued a full refund to my account 1 day later. I have since received feedback from others who purchased Felcos through Amazon that they have in fact received the real deal. (You can refer back to this video to verify and compare).The key is to purchase directly from Amazon and not third party sellers on the Amazon site. You can verify this by looking under the "add to cart" button on the product page. It will say "Fulfilled and shipped by Amazon". Hope this helps.

      Interesting! I am looking to buy a pair of felco pruners myself and have stumbled upon people saying they bought counterfeits which is disconcerting. My theory is perhaps Felco (being a small company/factory in Switzerland) only operates seasonally, they produce an amount a year and then thats it they turn off the machine in say Oct, Nov. However, people still want to buy them, and some counterfeit company makes a deal with amazon (or vice versa) to sell them, and amazon caves because they still have the demand for people who want to buy. I hope this problem gets resolved in the spring once Felco starts making their shipment again.

      To be fair Amazon is just a provider of products from different companies. You can get the same product from multiple sources on Amazon. You can check company reviews in the product descriptions. You probably got them from Fly-By-Night Industries in China through Amazon. Amazon will make it good and probably just write it off as it'll cost them more to fight the company than give it back in good will.

    I also got scammed 3 years ago, but only realized it just now thanks to your video! I had wondered why my ‘Felcos’ had lost their edge so quickly when ALL I cut with them is the green wood of my fruit trees-and I still have to sharpen them every season… now I know. Thank you!

    I contacted Felco last week because I needed a replacement rotating handle for a pair of Felco 3 pruners. Was advised discontinued model 3 in 1980. I purchased mine in the mid 60's and lost them. They had my name on them & was returned to me about 30 years later after being dug up in an old vineyard. They still work good but plastic handle broke & Felco is working with me to replace the handle...Great high quality product & so far the customer service at Felco seems to be top notch!!!
    I could easily spot the fake in your video, thanks for the heads up!!!

    Thank you. I wished that more people come up with this type of "expose" video on youtube. The fakes need to be exposed and made to pay for selling counterfeit products. They should be barred from Amazon for life.

      Amazon is in on it. Have you noticed that 99% of items on amazon have 4.5 stars? The higher the number of 1 star reviews, the higher the number of 5 star reviews. This is because amazon (not a 3rd party) will increase positive reviews for a price, just like Angie's list, yelp, Better Business Bureau (not a government entity!) and just about any other online review company.

    Thanks for this vid. I watched it some time ago, and just today found an old pair of secateurs in my garden shed. Rusted open they were, but I had purchased that sharpener you had recommended and since it does such a great job decided to clean these up. After I got them working and sharpened I thought I should check if I had the authentic deal. Yes! All worth the effort. Thanks for all you do, Dan!

    Thanks for the detailed video, I just received a set of fake Felco 2 pruners on eBay. The seller (adrmccl-47) was using a photo of the real pruner in their auction ad, but what I got matched your fake pruner exactly. On the packaging of the fake pruner I got they did at least also copy the instruction booklet part to make it look more like the real thing. So they spent a little more money printing that booklet, but the pruner itself is as fake as they come. I filed and got a refund from eBay almost immediately and they've taken the sellers auctions down so they're onto him.

    well done! And i want to say thanks to the guy who gave you a heads up. My wife got me a pair for X-mass and the blade chipped right away, went to take it apart and my blade had a screw holding it on and i striped it getting it out and what do u know, Felco has no part # for that screw. Started looking online and found your vid. Thank u sooo much. Amazon is refunding us.

The seller did through PayPal, but I won’t believe it until I see it. I re-ordered mine directly from Felco this time.

      The only way to ensure you get the correct item is to order directly from the manufacturer. All these big online retailers (Amazon, ebay, walmart, etc.) are full of fakes and forgeries and they don't care as long as they make a profit.

    The Telco blade is held on by three pins. One on the support tang at the end of the handle, and two around the pivot. The counterfeit has only one much larger pin showing, so I don't think the Felco replacement blade will work in the counterfeit. Gotten tired off disposable pruners, and decided to bite the bullet and pay for a good one.

    You didn't buy this from Amazon did you? It sounds like you purchased from a third party seller through Amazon. I'm always cautious with those sellers and fully check them out before I buy. There are many honest sellers who use "fulfilled by Amazon" and I stick with them after I read their ratings. I don't buy from any sellers who do not use fulfilled by Amazon. You should report this seller to Amazon and request a refund.

    • @plantabundance
      @plantabundance  5 років тому +5

      Well I did buy it from Amazon, just not fulfilled by Amazon. At the time I was under the impression it was fulfilled by Amazon. Sometimes it's not very clear. I agree 3rd party sellers should be vetted before making a purchase. If the feedback is good I have no problem buying 3rd party.

    • @lightwavz
      @lightwavz 5 років тому

      I have also gotten ripped off by third party sellers. There are very few things I purchase that aren't "fulfilled by Amazon" now. So much has changed in the past 2 years that makes Amazon a much worse source now.

      Hello Bob. Good to hear from you. I think your going to be o.k. if the order is fulfilled by Amazon and not a 3rd party seller. Looks like the person I bought from is no longer showing up. Be sure to refer to the images in this video to verify you got the real deal. Amazon has an easy return policy if there's any problem. Please let us all know how it works out. It's a moot point in my opinion.Besides, you would have to do a prolonged comparison to make a judgment. With that being said, it's the principle of the matter. I paid for a pair of authentic Felcos and was sold a knock off without any real warranty attached. That's dishonest and a total scam. I would never support a company or individual who steals someone else's hard earned reputation of quality.

      got a brand new pair of those fakes a few years back from one of those fly-by online shops using real pixes and shipping chinese junk, thankfully PayPal refund made them free as the seller disappeared before i could get a shipping address from them to send it back.
      decided to try them for a season on vines and they didn't make it through the third week. blade got dull real fast, didn't hold an edge after resharppening, chipped twice, tip broke, screws loosened and locking part was lost to the green grasses pixies, probably when i got them out of their holster. plastic coating was sub-par, less durable than a home applied Plasti-dip. whatever price you pay for them is more than what they're worth even when free. still have them as a cautionary tale for new pruners would be buyers.
      to make it clear, we do have four Felco pruners from the '50s and '60s to the late '80s and early '90s, used respectively for three and two generations and those are still going strong with proper maintenance and regular parts replacement. same for the steel Pradines/Sandvik/Bahco (P110 and P3 mostly along with the almost _unkillable_ P127 snips 😼) or our light duty Gardena ones, albeit for the later, those with dual compound grips have started to deteriorate and got sticky in a pretty ugly way after twenty years or so, also parts for those older Gardena are not available anymore except on the NOS market when you can find them. buy a pair of Felco, one that fills your needs, on sale and never look back, best one hand pruning investment if you're a cheapskate and are going to use them long term. learning to maintain them and have the right tools help too. ARS or Okatsune ones are very nice too and as good and reliable as the Felco and may be available cheaper depending on your location.
