    DAMN! Samsonov had such an unpredictable play style against the Joo! So brilliant at messing up the opponent's flow, and great IQ on when to attack and when to push. Also, Vlad's attacks are so underrated, he places the ball so deep and actually hits with great speed!

    Such a joy to watch these two legends with style. Don´t see Joo on the world tour anymore - what a pity. Thanks for sharing this.

    The four horsemen - Waldner, Kong Linghui, Samsanov, Joo. These four define Table Tennis to me. Feels so good to see this match.

    The chops are so satisfying

    • @nah1110
      @nah1110 3 роки тому

      @Humpty Dumpty the attacks were more unexpected due to his chopping and the chopping game is far from dead look hou yingchao or gionis panagiotis for examples

    • @nah1110
      @nah1110 3 роки тому

      @Humpty Dumpty my point is there still are choppers who can compete at the highest level. How much percentage of players are trained as choppers? If it was 50/50 your point could be valid but there's like 5% defenders only and the rest is attacking players of course the probability that an attacker wins a title is so much greater because of that

    • @putiputain1230
      @putiputain1230 3 роки тому

      Just because Ma Long can beat choppers doesn't mean everyone can. Actually new generation become wet noodles encountering underspin. But you are right regarding choppers not attacking. They need to mix it up the def with the atk. I got a few tournaments under my belt because of it.

    • @putiputain1230
      @putiputain1230 3 роки тому

      @Humpty Dumpty yes I have seen and played against other choppers since I'm a chopper myself. I eat choppers away because I'm quite aggressive too with my long pips, chop, block, slap. You wouldn't even think I have LP if I don't back off the table every now and then. I have seen the CNT in person and their training as well the HKNT which I practiced with some of them. Those are some of the perks of been a son in law of a famous player lol. But yes, streamlined it would be more boring than watch 2 choppers playing against each other.
      PS: I don't care if you saw it. It was more out of courtesy to keep it more professional.

    • @putiputain1230
      @putiputain1230 3 роки тому

      I agree with you though. There's no training for choppers nowadays. Because everything is shifted to regular inverted rubbers which is quite boring not seeing variety.

    Did I get the wrong impression or does Samsonov play way more effortlessly against Joo than Boll... It was even painfull to watch: World Cup, 2011, Paris, Quarterfinal.

      There's very few comparable to Vlad on dealing with choppers. Boll is tough for defenders but Vlad is almost impossible.

    @wirdozjh99 6 років тому +7

    Joo realizes at 2-0 that if he will not attack he will not win.. vlad exposes the weakness of a defender here... thats why i like sp modern defenders than lp like muramatsu.. attack oriented defender.. more like hybrid player..

      The rules of this tournament is different,if you draw(2-2) and the game is timed also; then the last game also know as “kill zone” at 5.

    So many rule changes in table tennis, but the sets keep untuched. I always thought we could get rid of the sets. Because with sets the better player can loose. For Exemple: if you play 11:2, 9:11, 11:4, 8:11, 9:11 you loose by sets, even though you played 47:39 points. So if you want to make shure the better player wins in the end, you could take soccer or Hockey as refernce. Make e.g. 3 halftimes à 10mins and just keep counting points

    Very similar to Kong Linghui facing Ding Song. Entertaining and amusing, maybe. But eventually not even the very best defenders did win. (John Hilton in ETTC Bern, 1980 is the exception)

      He's come back, but heard he's trying Hurricane 3 on forehand. So he's flipped rubber colors, black forehand red pips. Nice to see him back but he's playing very poorly. Maybe he was injured or retired them decided to come back. I don't know.

    • @PhilippMehr

      As a defender who changed to offensive because of the plastic ball, I can tell you from my point of view that is has something to do with character and what kind of movement suits you more. Some people are more risk taking and have a kill instinkt. They would be great Boxers, too. Some people are way less aggressive, but much more persistent. That is a big reason why I decided to play defensive. The other part is movement. For offensive playstyle one has to be very nimble. I am very fast, bur not nimble. Its much more easy for me to run forward and backwards than to execute those fast sidesteps. If you play far from the table, even though the ball is faster, you have more time and can use a lot more strength and force, while in offense its much more fucus in fine motor skills
