    Thank you for this great video,I am trying to make wood ash lye soap..I made 250mls of your recipe with a half tablespoon of oil,not sure if my wood ash lye is strong enough.
    Do you test your lye by seeing if an egg will float in it?
    I used a recipe for making soap in John Seymour's book on Self Sufficiency.
    It Haa 500g clarified fat,1 cup of olive oil,1 cup of peanut oil,2 tablespoons of wood ash lye in half a cup of rain water and 1 cup of water with perfume in it.
    You melt the fat and oils and heat to 32*C(90*F) and heat the lye and rainwater also to the same temperature.
    Add the water with perfume to the oils,when all are at 32*c,pour the lye in the half cup of rainwater,into the fats and keep stirring until it 8s good and thick and leaves a line on top of the mixture.
    Then pour into a container.
    I am trying to get this soap recipe to lather and work out how long I wait before I cut it and use it.
    In the meantime I have ordered a few soap making books and am hoping for more help with making wood ash lye soap..for hand and other washing.Thank you

    • @cristobalbaeza1389
      @cristobalbaeza1389 5 років тому +9

      It's 1 week, and you have to stir them (ashes/water) everyday during that week. Of course the last day you have let the ashes/water rest to than take only the water.

      Hello. Thanks for sharing. U can use any water, but we try to find the best and free ingredients that we can. If u don't have access to rain water, don't worry. It won't be the end of the world. U will still survive and as long as u still have good intentions, I'm sure that u will make the best soap ever. Good luck and once again, thank u for sharing. Big hug. Andrea

    You can leave the charcoal in, people these days would pay lots of money for "activated Charcoal" beauty products, what they dont know is that even tough activated charcoal is great to use in filters, once you mix it with stuff, it does not realy work anymore so it just becomes charcoal once again.
    To be clear:
    I do not recommend actually using raw coal or charcoal since it contains tar. I was making fun of the cosmetic industry but some people did not seem to make sense of that. Although it would be as useless as activated charcoal, activating coal removes most of the tar out of it. That tar could be harmful and even increase the chance of cancer.

    • @darthszarych5588
      @darthszarych5588 4 роки тому

      Good to know

    • @peter4210
      @peter4210 4 роки тому

      @mike force activated charcoal is charcoal that was expanded using chemicals at high heat or steam at high heat. The result is a extremely porus material with a high surface area. It is that high surface area that gives is a better ability to filter trough adsorption(things getting stuck to it).
      Some activated charcoal are then "impregnated" with a chemical to make it more potent ad adsorbing or reacting with a certain chemical, making it more useful to filter that chemical but losing that surface area and reducing its adsorption potential on other elements.
      By adding it to a cream, soap or any other solution with particles, you are filling in these porse that were open during the activation process as well as the natural pores of charcoal, therefore deactivating the charcoal. Basically turning it back into coal.
      So when you buy "activated" charcoal products you are literally rubbing coal on your face, with less coal tar in it.
      On a other side note, except soaking up your face grease, activate charcoal does not do anything for your skin, or teeth. The company are using it to mark up the price artificially, using your lack of knowledge to fuck you with it.
      Fun fact you can also degrease your face with dirt, sand or any find adsorbing powder, but regular old soap is more effective and regular old soap is as effective as anti-microbial soaps.

      @mike force I was being satirical of the Cosmetic industry but I guess you are too busy liking your own comments to notices so I put a notice for people like you which I now moved to the main comment to make it more visible to other idiots like you. If you truly understood how activated charcoal works you would have understood my joke. Go back to your cesspool of reddit were your surface knowledge, fake claims and badly constructed arguments will earn you some worthless medal.

      She is making and using Pottasium Hydroxid (Lye). I think you refering to Sodium Hydroxid (Lye). both can be used to make soap. If you heat your house with wood why not use the free lye if you're not afraid of a little murkier colours. When doing it trow in a potatoe or egg and if it floats and the above water part is an inch or 2.5 cm in diameter its the right strenght for soapmaking. You can make white powder out of Pottasium Hydroxid but its a more complicated story.

    Sorry unclear.How after a week of shaking the container does it go from a few inches of lye water and a tablespoon of oil ,....to a full container? What did you add?

    • @barbaricviking
      @barbaricviking 3 роки тому

      Oh, the original container (shown in the video) was just a demonstration based on whatever amount she happened to have at the time of taping... you would keep this process going as you gather ashes (ie, gather 500 grams of ashes - then combine with an equal amount of rain water), stir daily for a week, sift, then blend the liquid with one tablespoon of oil. Hope this helps :)

    • @petersholmcenterforliv2108
      @petersholmcenterforliv2108  6 років тому +3

      Hellol. I´m not use to get questions. sorry about the delay. The proportions that I use is a table spoon of oil per ½ liter of ash water. Shake every day for about a week or more and then if the oil doesn´t mix with the rest of the liquid, then put everything in the blinder and it will be perfect. Good luck. Big hug. Andrea
