You are amazing lavender lady ! Please show us more your videos. I just got 2 lavender plants for my family. The first one is Spanish Lavender and the second is English Lavender. Wish you the best for your work and life. 👍💯💜
Just wanted to say thank you I'm going to try to get as much knowledge from you as I can I am starting to love her kindergarten and Young Harris Georgia I have two rows for 24 planz planning to add another hundred to 200 this year looking forward learning more
Was this video ever a big help. I bought a lavender plant, and have no clue what and where to cut. Your visual was so helpful. Thank you so much for this.
Liked your video. I have been looking for such a tutorial just on lavender...I want to grow lots and lots of lavender on my property, I just love it in my entryway. FYI, I learned a long time ago that in the black plague of the middle ages a town in France that grew lavender for their livelihood did Not get the plague. Turned out -- fleas did not like the lavender. All the town survived.
You can absolutely keep those pretty flower on it you like. But be sure to give the plant a good trim before the first frost so you will have even more blooms next year.
Your such a sweetheart of a person...God bless you....I subscribed from another video but hearing the end of this one really was sweet of you to say..... anyhow I laughed about you saying if you like your feet.... 😅😅😅😆💯👏🎂🐝🧁🌵🥳👀
Thank you so much for this clear, informative breakdown delivered in such a sweet, upbeat way :) I inherited some mature lavender shrubs last summer that look like they have been neglected for a few years and become very leggy. I am so afraid to cut off too much, and yet don't want to take too little and stifle the plant - now I feel much more equipped to get at it!
Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦 zone 4b. I bought the three different types (Spanish, English and French) and I am trying to decide where to plant and so this video was very helpful. Thank You!
Hello, thanks for your video and sharing how to buy those cool trimmers. I just ordered them and next Thursday when they arrive I will have such fun trimming my lavender plants. Hugs, Lynn
Thanks Julie, new subscriber and excited to listen to more of your expertise in growing lavender. We're in Canada and will be planting 300 plants. Trying to learn as much as possible!😉 Thanks for sharing your tips and tools!😍
I am in Eastern KY, where my 5 years old French Lavender is striving. As you suggested, I will be trimming it in the fall, but it will break my heart to do it, as I never trimmed it and it does looks so beautiful. Thanks for all the tips.
Thank you so much for these Lavender💜 videos! I’d love to learn more about how often to water them since I keep Reading that they love hot weather and dry soil but I’m here trying to figure out exactly how dry can they go 🤔 I just acquired my first Spanish Lavender from the store and I have 1 English Lavender that I started from seed.
Hi Yaima: How much water depends on your climate. My first farm got around 45 inches of water a year. I only watered once a week for new plants in the ground that were planted in the spring. I watered until the fall rains came then I did not water at all for the next 15 years. For lavenders I planted in the fall, I did not water at all. Lavenders in containers - no matter where you live will watering once a week. Maybe twice if the temperatures are super hot or there is a strong drying wind. FIY: The lavender farms in SEQUIM, WA have an annual rainfal of arounf 19 inches a year. Farms there water once for about 8 hours in the fall.
So glad I found your channel! I had a gardener tell me that she trims her lavender in both the spring and fall to avoid woody growth. What are your thoughts on this practice? How do you rejuvenate a woody Spanish lavender plant? thanks so much!
I bought a lavender from LOWES cleanse section. The foliage was totally dry. I cut it down to 1 " and planted it. Will it grow back?? Also, if I plant the spikes do they have seeds in them?? How does it reseed?
Hi Julie.. My grandsons gave me 4 2" Spanish Lavender seedlings back in June. They are 10-12" tall now. I live in Canada. We can get nasty winter weather. 🥶 They are in small fabric bags. Do you think they will survive winter If I put the small bags into large bags, filled them with leaves and brought them into the shed? Or Dig a hole put bags in and cover ? This is my first time growing Lavender. Time is running out I can not find any help for winterizing such young plants. If you have a video , can you send me the link. I couldn't find it ... Cheers from Toronto
wow that was the fastest reply I've ever had 😂😂Were you just sitting there waiting for me lol 😂😂 What would you do with them ? Do you have any ideas ?@@SauvieIslandLavenderFarm
I love your videos. Thanks for sharing. I just received two fresh lavender seedlings a week ago and they are about 7 inches tall.. I trimmed off some of the tips from one of them but I am afraid, it's starting to die. Please give me advice on how to care for my seedlings, my location is in the Philippines.
If we cut too much is there any chance that they will come back? I asked my husband to prune five healthy lavenders and he cut them to the wood! I am so upset!
They have a hard time coming back from a pruning into the wood. Especially if there was a frost soon after. Lavenders put in new growth throughout the summer. You could let them be and see if any new growth appears over the next few months.
I cut mine back about halfway before I plant. I also pinch back flower spikes the first season. Do both of these and the plant roots will establish faster and set you up for success for next blooming season. It will take three years for lavender to fully mature. Julie
This my second year for Spanish lavender and I just saw this and do I cut it off now, it's mid may in zone7, it's full if blooms that's the only reason I have not cut back, please help.
@@SauvieIslandLavenderFarm darn, it’s too late then. They are all in full bloom. Do I wait till next year? I love your videos. I just ordered your booklet on “how to”. Thank you so much.
What do you want to do with your lavender? My answer was based on my commercial use of lavender that I dry and sell online. Lavenders that I have other uses for, such as drying and stripping to make lavender buds for sachets, I don’t mind picking in full bloom. Full bloom works for culinary uses too. 😀
@@SauvieIslandLavenderFarm I want to cut and dry for bundles and sachets. Can you recommend a good hand scythe? I can’t seem to find one at any store around me
So I planted my lavender in June from propagated plants. They were about 3" tall, and now they are 10" tall and 12" wide. I live in Pennsylvania, zone 6b. Am I too late to trim since it's the end of October, should I wait until spring? I am so grateful for those of you who share your wealth of knowledge with those of us who at times have no idea what we're doing. Thank you!

My lavender developed a woody base how do I go about it’s care now?
I've got a very old Lavender. I just cut 1-2 of the woody stems down, close to the base, every year. It's not noticeable once it starts growing again.

Trim them back a couple of times to get them to grow lateral stems and "bush up" before you plant them.

I have Spanish lavender, is the trimming and pruning the same for this kind?
Spanish lavender tends to get leggy. So you may need to be a bit more aggressive in trimming.
This my second year for Spanish lavender and I just saw this and do I cut it off now, it's mid may in zone7, it's full if blooms that's the only reason I have not cut back, please help.
HI Lori:
No. Wait until September before the first frost to trim your Spanish lavender back.
@@SauvieIslandLavenderFarm thank you so much, I will do that. Happy summer vibes to you💜
When trimming lavender what do I do with the trims
If they are long enough (3 in. or so) you could propagate them and grow more! Most of mine end up on the compost or hauled away as yard debris.
Does this work for every lavender?
I'm not sure which video you have a question about.
Is that French lavander?
When is the best time to cut my plants to harvest? I live in Ohio
When it’s about 20 percent in bloom. Harvest in the morning after the few has evaporated.
