I'm staying as an independent rapper as long as I can. I want to keep as much of the money I make as I possibly can. I'm doing everything right now with hardly any money and I'm glad that I have to think outside the box. I can make a music video with no money and it's gonna be fun and I'm gonna have to get extremely creative.

What would you have from fame without money
In order for you to get any type of deal you have to have a buzz to draw potential 'investors' to you. They are signing artist who are already making money or have some type of buzz.

If you are a good enough artist, you get to make the rules and if they like you
and want to get on board and get a percentage, they are welcome to join
other wise do it yourself or next... Distribution is needed however,
but to a certain extent and percentage. Your the artist with the fan base
and in demand, not the other way around. Other wise pull a Solja Boy
and the others can kick rocks...

Ah the good ole 360 deal, aka the slave contract. The 1st time I read one I was like "wtf ppl sign these?"

In my opinion the 360 deal isn't as bad as we make it seem. Record Labels are like banks. They loan money which pays for videos, features, studio time, travel expenses, etc...asking for a portion of everything you do is just a way of making sure they recoop their money. It's easy to say do it on your own until you realize that 9 to 5 paycheck money won't get you far in this business. Every aspiring artist doesn't have street money!! I know plenty of artist that should be stars right now but they have no funding to help get them out there. A short term 360 deal would do wonders for these type of artist. You can always negotiate and scratch which parts you don't like and write in your demands and have them retype. Once both sides agree then you sign. JS....

there was literally one type of deal you talked about i didnt know and ofc you decided to say nothing about it except how people feel about it. kinda ruins the purpose of the video. you cant just assume that everyone who watches your videos is a dedicated fan. thats how you lose subs before you even get them
Then don’t sub. This video is years old. Everyone has varying levels of knowledge. Someone can watch this video and know 0% of the information and someone else can watch and know 100%. You can’t assume your level of knowledge on one video can other has any indication of the quality of video. There’s videos for varying levels of artists on the channel. If you want to get info that answers YOUR questions for sure, then a free UA-cam video will always be a gamble. Go pay someone for a consultation or something

This is dope. I think a distribution deal would be the most beneficial to anyone who is willing to grow a fan base.
Gotta have a respectable reputation to do so though, labels don’t hand those out so easily. Sometimes you gotta take what you can get to get your foot in the door and learn the business firsthand

So digital distributors might take over. Heck even labels are starting to start their own digital distribution
probably none of the currently standard deals. nearly every single contract in the music industry is beyond dated. if you get your hands on one of these contracts youll see words that aren't even relevant anymore. terms and conditions that nolonger exist. contracts havent been updated in 40 years

Great breakdown. Another popular deal nowadays are licensing deals. That’s when the label licenses the masters for an album, or for multiple albums.

If You Do Land In A 360 Deal Make Sure You Get A Clause In Your Contract Stating You Can Get Your Masters And Publishing Back After A Certain Amount Time
I don't know the whole scenario you may be referring to but I would personally avoid anything like that.
Record labels make money from the products that the artists they sign produce.
If they are actually interested in signing you then why would you have to pay?
If someone is shopping this idea to you as a way to get your foot in the door then just think like this. We all know about artists that have had a huge buzz that have got signed and then the label doesnt push them. If you aren't even on their radar and had to go to the extreme of paying to even have a meeting, then how can you expect them to be motivated enough to put their money behind you?
In summary, in my humble opinion, don't do it!
