The clutch isn’t too heavy but its strange bite point combined with the very laggy throttle (I can fully depress the throttle quickly with the clutch in without the RPM changing) and zero power/torque under 2,5k rpm make driving off and shifting smooth at low speeds difficult and clunky. If you start driving it like a motorcycle with revs between 3,5 and 5,5k it comes alive and is exhilarating, but kind of antisocial to do this in town/city…😏
@@ericuyttebroeck I fully agree to this statement. No torque down low at all. You need to really push this car to feel any power otherwise a bit meeh. Laggy throttle response and worst ecu I've ever seen.

I think the GR86 is ultimately more fun to drive, especially at the limit. But this GR Corolla is really good. Maybe more fun when driven casually? Awesome daily. Can’t wait to drive one on dirt/snow too.
As a daily driver yes. It's got 4 seats and is a hatchback so it's more practical. But if I was only looking for one sporty/track car to use on weekends I'd take the 86 as it's 1) cheaper 2) N/A 3) Actually available.
Idk why people keep asking if this is a better pick over a BRZ/86. Of course, yes. The 86 is nothing. It's just a car with good handling. The GR Corolla actually has power AND handling. The only downside right now would be dealership markups, but MSRP vs MSRP, GR Corolla wins. But that Porsche Cayenne actually pulling on the twisties somehow though lmao, has practicality and probably passengers on board and it's not even a GT.
@@gryphon123456 If you say so. I can see a Subura being lifted with it’s longer suspension arms and already elevated height. But doing that to a GR Corolla defeats the entire purpose of the GR Corolla. But hey if you got the money go for it!

ive seen 2 of these already at the SoCal cars n coffee, i love em. still really hope i can maybe get one to lease just for a few months before i move for college 😭
I currently own the GR Yaris, and I am considering trading it for the new 2024 GR Yaris facelift model. I am particularly interested in the digital dashboard from the Corolla and the other improvements that have been made.
Thanks for the info! Would you have an impression of engine braking/ hill descent in the mountains? Very interested in the car, but it needs to descend a 16" mountain pass frequently without braking all the way down.
You can get a wrx for at msrp and is much cheaper at base. You can't get a GR corolla (its basically vaporware) and you won't touch MSRP for a few years at best. So if you want to spend $10,000+ for another 40hp, then go for the corolla GR. Otherwise, do the WRX, bump it up to stage 1 or 2 for just a few K and be sitting right where the 'rolla GR is :) I've owned multiple WRX's, you cant go wrong (except for the looks department in the current version, but thats subjective).
how is the rev hang? I had a 2019 XSE (I know very different) but the rev hang was atrocious lol. Also the rear boot area is lifted in all the corolla hatches, it's annoying tbh
To be cool this car should’ve been priced as: Core: $27,900 USD Circuit: $34,900 USD Morizo: $39,900 USD AWD yes, but 1600cc also don’t forget the aged and base interior you find on a $20.000 corolla, with plastics all around and cheap material, also practically a 2 seater, outside gets interesting on the Morizo but the outside on a Core especially reminds you of a $17.000 car. 0 tech, barely any noise. I get it’s a driving machine but $42.900 for the circuit is INSANE.
To bad here in PuertoRico is already mark up the Core edition are asking from 55k to as high 63k and I haven't seen any other edition for sale just the Core
Thoughts on this vs the WRX? I know this is a little more special but it seems like the wrx offers a similar experience and is much easier to obtain. Is it worth the headache of trying to obtain a GR Corolla?
new WRX looks horrible. older ones before this gen look fine, but unless you put a handful of mods on it, i don’t see the fun factor matching other hot hatches. this car looks great in person, only issue is the markup. if you don’t need AWD, might wanna look into other hot hatches like a veloster N or a gti? i drive a VN and from stock it’s by far the most entertaining car i’ve driven in its class. been looking to trade in for a GR corolla but it ain’t worth $50,000 lmfao
@@Midgett_ looks are subjective. I think the new wrx looks good in person and it seems like it does most of what the GR Corolla does for less money. Veloster N and GTI are Great cars but I’m not interested in FWD as I am moving to Colorado.
I need to test drive one but I'd question paying 8 grand for a better sounding, peakier engine. I don't care about 10hp, drive modes, electronic rev matching, or diff settings, and the experience of driving it seems similar other than the engine. I've seen other people say the GRC feels less analog and moves around less, which would be negatives for me.
The GRC drives significantly better than the new WRX. The steering feel in the WRX is awful, like more numb than a Honda CRV and I’m not exaggerating. The brake pedal feel is also atrocious. The engine is very good, but the 6k redline comes way too soon. WRX shifter feels like a plastic version of the GRC shifter. The WRX is way bigger and it feels that way when driving. But you get way more trunk and rear seat space. The GRC is absolutely $8k better in terms of driving experience. The commenter saying it feels less analog than the new WRX, quite the opposite. WRX feels very disconnected particularly the steering. All that being said, you can walk in to a Subaru dealership tomorrow and buy a WRX, possibly for under MSRP.
There are people who put their stock GR Corollas on a dyno.... getting about 258.66 hp and 279.38 lb-ft tq to the wheels. That is about on par to a stock subaru sti "after drivetrain loss." the whole drive-train loss meme is getting old. We aint living in the 1980's anymore. its 2023! and yeah i get you said "compared to fwd or rwd" even then.... this idea that the corolla isn't putting the power down is just a meme. its a great car. i would NEVER buy one, but a great car none the less.
demn, didn't know the interior looks bad. for me, that's an A grade interior right there. not too mushy buttons, not too simple modern, just right. I think u guys got spoiled with the Interior complex.

@@antthonnyyy I'm hoping this will be my 2nd
Idk why people keep asking if this is a better pick over a BRZ/86. Of course, yes. The 86 is nothing. It's just a car with good handling. The GR Corolla actually has power AND handling. The only downside right now would be dealership markups, but MSRP vs MSRP, GR Corolla wins. But that Porsche Cayenne actually pulling on the twisties somehow though lmao, has practicality and probably passengers on board and it's not even a GT.
Love to see one of these lifted. What a great car.
Lifted?! Lol! Why?! 😝
@@StubProductions make a cool baha style car.
@@gryphon123456 gross
@@gryphon123456 If you say so. I can see a Subura being lifted with it’s longer suspension arms and already elevated height. But doing that to a GR Corolla defeats the entire purpose of the GR Corolla. But hey if you got the money go for it!
Lifted + 15 inch wheels + all terrain tires + skid plate
Just got this car a couple days ago. Totally worth it.
How much did you pay?
Not worth paying an insane markup for one. I’m waiting until 2025 to get one.
Nice little beast 🚀
I can’t believe they even sell this without LSDs front and rear. It shouldn’t even be an option. And then it just screws over all the people on the used market who will be looking for these 5 years from now. If only dealers could be trusted to sell the car for its intended price, it wouldn’t be a much of an issue.
I saw that green porsche in my dream. He was after me.
Love that it makes the same beep my 2010 corolla does
Love it !!
Circuit is the way to go but markups are still crazy on these in SoCal.
Do you prefer this GR over the FL5 as a daily?
Is this worth it over a BRZ in your opinion? (at msrp)
I prefer my car to lack drama if it means that it handles properly without going sideways easily
If you had to choose between the GRC or a manual equipped Mk8 Golf R, which would you choose and why?
GRC, otherwise DSG Golf R. But realistically, Elantra N > both.
What a beauty, gorgeous car
you're telling me this is almost the cost of a mazda 3 turbo in the US? well a tad more expensive with paint? Sad this cost twice as much where I'm from :/
Initial D vibes right here
Nice real world review, but that porsche was slowing you down
How does this compare to the last gen Sti in terms of clutch feel? and turning?
3 cylinders and 300hp, damn
Man I’ve been trying to see what I can get a type R or corolla I tried with both way back last year but everyone want mark ups 10-15k I just gave up and hopefully soon be able to get one the way I want
Which is better on the street, this or the WRX? Which rides better?
Sounds like a v6, that is very impressive.
Love my GR86 but I’m beginning to need something with an actual back seat and moved to an area where there is more snow. Considering trading it for one of these..
The nanny in the Cayenne was a bit weird, lol 😂
ive seen 2 of these already at the SoCal cars n coffee, i love em. still really hope i can maybe get one to lease just for a few months before i move for college 😭
Thoughts on this versus the wrx as a fun daily for a snowy climate?
You can get a wrx for at msrp and is much cheaper at base. You can't get a GR corolla (its basically vaporware) and you won't touch MSRP for a few years at best. So if you want to spend $10,000+ for another 40hp, then go for the corolla GR. Otherwise, do the WRX, bump it up to stage 1 or 2 for just a few K and be sitting right where the 'rolla GR is :) I've owned multiple WRX's, you cant go wrong (except for the looks department in the current version, but thats subjective).
I have a brz and I can’t wait to get one of these as either a second car or maybe trade up.. haven’t decided.
how is the rev hang? I had a 2019 XSE (I know very different) but the rev hang was atrocious lol. Also the rear boot area is lifted in all the corolla hatches, it's annoying tbh
To be cool this car should’ve been priced as:
Core: $27,900 USD
Circuit: $34,900 USD
Morizo: $39,900 USD
AWD yes, but 1600cc also don’t forget the aged and base interior you find on a $20.000 corolla, with plastics all around and cheap material, also practically a 2 seater, outside gets interesting on the Morizo but the outside on a Core especially reminds you of a $17.000 car. 0 tech, barely any noise. I get it’s a driving machine but $42.900 for the circuit is INSANE.
To bad here in PuertoRico is already mark up the Core edition are asking from 55k to as high 63k and I haven't seen any other edition for sale just the Core
There's only one thing I dislike about this car - how hard to get one.
please please please make another video on the fiesta st, that was the whole reason i subscribed and have been watching you! i love the fiesta st
Anyone know why this isn’t coming to Europe?
Is that motor actually making 300 on 91 octane pump gas? I’d expect it to knock on 91 and pull timing reducing power.
Just needs your winter wheel and tire package.
Oui, c'est vrai.
This car is sweet!
I will never forgive Toyota for not releasing this car in the EU.
its not Toyota's fault , most likely the EU with their cuck emission laws
Where I live a dealer is trying to sell the core trim for $62,995 🙄
Would yall take one of these or a GR86 for a weekend driver?
definitely sounds unique with the 3 cyl
Why do you go back and forth between Livonia Michigan and California?
@@Charles_King1 I'd honestly take the WRX... I'm getting Emails at marked down from MSRP to get rid of 2022 back stock!
We aint living in the 1980's anymore. its 2023! and yeah i get you said "compared to fwd or rwd" even then.... this idea that the corolla isn't putting the power down is just a meme. its a great car. i would NEVER buy one, but a great car none the less.
are you possibly gonna review the new forte gt 6 speed, i wanna see the similarities it has towards an si
How does this compare to the Veloster N manual in terms of liveability and fun
Sadly already have a car payment to even get one. I was given an allocation offered but declined.
demn, didn't know the interior looks bad. for me, that's an A grade interior right there. not too mushy buttons, not too simple modern, just right. I think u guys got spoiled with the Interior complex.
EXACTLY! I much prefer a simple clean interior. The only thing that I wouldve liked in the Core is a power driver seat. Harder for me to get comfy, but no biggie.
