Thank you for essentially donating this information to the guitar community. This is exactly the lesson almost every intermediate guitarist should hear because it's so crucial to hitting changes. I am super disheartened cause i know it's gonna take a while to get down even a bit of it but I will try my best. I can validate that your lesson is on par with some of the best as I'm currently studying under Maestro John Baboian in Berklee and both of you recite the same jazz guitar principles. Bravo.

Man, I fell like this is the FIRST VIDEO...in all of the 13 years I've been on UA-cam which resonated 100% with me. I feel like you in the white shirt, from start to end of the video. Wish you all the best for your rise to the top. There's so many beginner guitar tutorials, blues, rock, metal....but so little comprehensive jazz tutorials. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I split playable notes into three groups:
    1. Notes in the chord --> great
    2. Notes in the scale --> be intentional but generally good
    3. Chromatics --> be very cautious and intentional

Hey Eric thank you so much, this was such an interesting and useful lesson! I've been playing for many years jazz/soul fingerstyle with harmony & bass lines, kind of solo guitar inspired by Tuck Andress, Martin Taylor, etc achieving modest results considering I'm only an amateur guitarist.. But I completely neglected soloing. It's time to put some work in! In fact I am really tempted to become a patron tier 2 so I can have a one-to-one lesson. You might hear from me again! Thanks again 🙏😀

Great video! I'm still team scales. It's all from the same family tree. If you play the scales, yes you should be cognizant of the chords. And on the contrary, the chords are within those scales. Your phrasing will also breakup the static scale sounds as well.

I really value what you're teaching here. But I think this format of acting like two people made the video too long. If you acted like the "newbie" for some questions it'd be ok, but the first half of the video was just filled with an empty dialogue… next time I think you can just take 2min to introduce the subject to the audience directly. I'm already a subscriber and fan, but I guess some people will give up to watch the video because of the format you presented in that first half.
