Fun Fact: In early drafts, Scar was a rogue lion with no relation to Mufasa. Eventually, however, the story writers thought relating him to Mufasa would be more interesting, a threat within. This is why Scar and Mufasa differ so much; they weren't originally designed to be related.
A few years ago I saw an interview with Nathan Lane from when The Lion King was new. I'm sure he briefly touches on Warthog Rhapsody not working out for them behind the scenes. I hope it's still on UA-cam because I can't seem to find it.
Interesting your video :) I once read that before the Warthog Rapsody was the original song for the Hakuna Matata scene, but it didn't fit well so they changed to the song we currently know; and I like how after for the Lion King 1 1/2 they reused the melody and renamed it "That's all I need" and with another letter about his dream of Timon .. Also, to be honest, I love Hakuna Matata more, which is how we know it; and "That's all I need" is also cool in the Lion king 1 1/2 and has a rythm without equally.. 6:50 Is that really where that picture came from? I didn't know wow :O
2:21 Slight mistake here. The 2003 Special Edition version of Lion King isn't the first time the storyboard version of this song was put out publicly, the Deluxe Edition of the laserdisc version that came out in 1995 actually had it on there first, along with some others deleted scenes that made it into the Special Edition version (plus some that never made it like the alternate scene of Simba deciding to return and Scar's defeat). On top of that, I'm pretty sure the audio was more of a rough version of the song, at least the music is, plus no background singing unlike in the more finalized version on the Rhythm of the Pridelands soundtrack. On a side note there is a slight acknowledgement of That's All I Need being a reworked version of Warthog Rhapsody on the back of the dvd case or the inside of that flip thing of the cover thing that goes over the dvd case (if you know what I'm talking about) Great retrospective tho, I've always loved this song
@@SomeBoiOnline lol Thanks. I still have the OG dvd of Lion King 1 1/2 so I knew about the whole reworked version of Warthog Rhapsody from the get-go. As for the laserdisc thing, I didn't know about that until I saw the bonus features of that floating around youtube around 2009 or 2010

Yes I'd heard about that, a fascinating fact indeed!

I haven't seen that one, would be fascinating to watch if it turns up! Hopefully it's been preserved somewhere.
I'm living for the lion king content
Love to hear it!
Good video dude keep up the good work.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed!
@SomeBoiOnline your welcome. I always enjoy your content.
the lion king and land before time were my favorite movies as a little kid, this video was really interesting!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I recall watching the Land Before Time way back.
6:17 Why is simba bigger than pumbaa when he was still a kid, but he's smaller than him in some scenes.
Probably because they're just rough storyboards. I'm only noticing now that they're all a similar size to Timon, so definitely not to scale! 😆

Kind of reminds me of “Fame and Fortune” vs “We’re a Couple of Misfits” from the Rankin-Bass Rudolph.

Thanks for the insight, that's more than I could find online whilst researching! Glad you enjoyed it, a great unused song indeed.

I noticed you didn’t say “my original favorite movie” you said “me original favorite movie” is that a Brit thing?
It's a northern British thing. Down south, it would be pronounced "my".
