in one of the volumes of the manga, in the little author note in the beginning, Kishimoto mentions that he went to talk to his mother to gain more insight and help when introducing kushinas character

Don't hate me, but it took 249 episodes of Shippuden to see Lindsay tear up and I am so glad that happened. I have been waiting for this moment as I always enjoyed all the other insights she has on the show and was wondering how she would react to this part. And now I subscribe!!
A note here- Kushina is clearly an extremely strong Uzumaki. She went through childbirth, extraction of bijuu which should technically kill her in few minutes or less but could still wait, hold down the 9 tails (not Kurama at this point of story), jump in front her kid( she is on the other side and weakened state), share her wisdom with the right humor and then SPOILER ALERT stay alive after Minato's dead to hand Naruto over to Hiruzen Sarutobi( Kakashi's arc highlights this part).

this one is almost my favorite flashback, so close but my favorite is yet to come, that aside this is one of the very few things that can almost break me, it's too wholesome to hate and too sad to feel happy about, loved it and the reaction
In the manga Kushina also rush into and hug naruto but she disappeared before she even could so it make this even sadder

Carson and Lindsey here an nice background info about 249, 249 was supposedly be directed by Toshiyuki Tsuru(he directed episodes 82, 85, 123 of Shippuden). But he was task with directing the movie which end being the famous Chikara arc. Also 249 animation supervisor is Masayuki Kouda, the current director of Boruto and one of the aces of Shippuden

This and the last episode premiered on my 21st birthday in 2012. The best but also most emotional birthday I have ever had. No anime I’ll ever watch will top these two episodes. I followed Naruto’s journey since it first started airing in America in 2005, but I did watch a little bit of the Japanese eps. It’s such a good show.

Kakashi was 14 years old when Minato died and became an Anbu member at age 12. Itachi was 5 and Shisui was 7. Nagato at this point was already 19 or so years old when Minato died, Yahiko died 15 years old when Nagato was 17.

If you go to the Naruto timeline, Yahiko, Konan and Nagato are 1 year apart from each other(supposedly). Yahiko is 1 year young than Konan and Konan is q year younger than Nagato

And it's always a bit funny to see this episode: the Nine Tails quiet and still, after the claw attack, waiting for all the dialog to end and Minato techniques to be performed.
Also, Minato-Kushina's life story is sadly epic.

The guy who has never even been touched let alone damaged from an attack, minato rasengans him in the back, puts a marker on him, then teleports to him and stabs madara with a kunai while at the same time breaking the sharingan control he has on the 9 tails using a contract seal. What a beast

I watched this when it first aired and have watched plenty reactions but this ep always gets me..this is a top ep for me and no fighting really just carried by emotions and and story
Yup. Naruto (the manga) came out in like 98 or 99 or 2000. I was like ...26 I think. And I have read it twice and watched the nonfiller stuff like 10 or so times. Not only did Kishimoto eventually incorporate so much cool stuff, but the psyhcological issues that he explores resonate with many issues I have had in real life. And he did them so well. This episode and when Haku and Zabuza die and when Jiraiya dies, plus a couple of others before and well in their future, get me every damn time.
They had the sweetest little family, damnit Madara.

yeah man Kakashi saw everyone he loved and cared about, disappear right in front of his eyes 😞 How he managed to pull through all that and didn't let his dark side consume him. I still wonder about that.
Even after this point he kept on loosing the ones he cared about. Azuma, Jiraiya, his own student Sasuke killing people left n right, becoming a terrorist, seeing Obito as the mastermind of the war and then loosing him again. He went through hell

Its important to remember that when Naruto was conceived, all that got added in via retcon changed how we interpret the early manga. Originally the 4th was not even his father in Kishimoto's design. The retcon's make Naruto's childhood much worse and by extension make Hiruzen way more of a shithead. The story of Naruto was original a tribute to Dragonball about a lonely fox who becomes a boy to make friends, gets a job as a student ramen chef and becomes rivals with his best friend to be the best ramen chef ever. The told him to basically spice it up, so since he loved Japanese mythology, religion, ninja movies and comics and Kaiju movies he added all that in hodge podge over the first couple of arcs. He gave no real thought to Naruto living in an apartment on his own, because kids in anime and manga did that all the time. Hell early Sakura is basically Bulma 2.0 and Ino, Shikamaru and Choki are named are a giant pig that Goku fought in dragonball named something like Inoshikacho.
Yeah, in retcon Sarotobi was a manipulative fuck. But in reality you just have to kind of hand wave the inconsistencies of early Naruto.
I know it's wrong.... But i was laughing my butt off waiting to see who would break first. 😂
