- The lights are low, the tacky gold streamers are out - it's Date Night at the V&A.
Assistant Curator Iona is 💖 back 💖 for another 'Laying the Table', this time getting in touch with her romantic-side. Joined by her galentine, Assistant Curator Kate, we sent them out on a mission to find the most romantic and sexy objects in the museum for Valentine's Day - and they did not disappoint 👀
Watch as the pair unpack their selection, from the sensual and seductive to the downright dangerous. We've got tales of passion, heartbreak, forbidden love and woe, including...
a 🍆 saucy statue 🍆 modelled on Barbie and He-Man,
a jewel-encrusted locket containing 💘 human hair 💘,
a ☠️ poisonous ☠️ flower-making kit,
and a delicate wine glass engraved with a 👨❤️👨 secret queer message 👨❤️👨

UPDATE: 😇Louise Hindsgavl herself😇 has confirmed that we weren't far off - the legs belong to Action Man!
J'adore Iona! Bring her and her sense of humor back often.
I LOVE this and all the ways you all are making these amazing object d'art accessible to new generations!
V&A: Please give Iona her own show. She gives us such a wonderful and entertaining perspective on your exquisite collection. SO GOOD WE LOVE YOU IONER ❤
I visited VA last summer, and it's the highlight of my trip to England. I haven't finished exploring the museum, and I want to go to England again just to come to VA
Loved this video!! They’re both brilliant, really engaging and informative. Thanks Kate and Iona! :D
Wow! How utterly refreshing and hilariously entertaining. Informative too of course. I’m still laughing now🫶🤣🥳
Great, let's have more of Iona - and let's not forget Kate. Really wonderful.
Iona is absolutely lovely - funny, gorgeous, knowledgeable, and just has an enchanting presence. I hope she's as happy as she makes me feel.
I'm so glad to see Iona! She's the best!
Really interesting and entertaining! Greatly enjoyed this video, Kate and Iona did a stellar job!

An acrostic in gemstones. How excellent 🎉
that glove/love poem really sounded like something that Thomas from the series Ghosts would compose, quite silly 😆
You went ALL IN on this, thank you so much!
Make sure you're subscribed for the next one 😘
Fabulous! ......thank you for the wonderful insight into all the objects .....so interesting, also, thank you both for making me laugh out loud! Time well spent in your company, and I look forward to many more. 🤞🙏😄
Ladies, this is so fun. Thank you for the lovely, humorous, yet educational video.
Love your diamond hair barrettes! 😉. Such a fun video.
Iona and Kate are also V&A treasures!
Petition for an Iona and Kate sculpture at the V&A
Brilliant idea! @@vamuseum definitely
Love these videos!! Calm, funny, informative. Please make more of this kind.
Favorite object is the flower making kit and the locker ❤
Great fun , enjoyed the presenters and enjoyed hearing about the objects shown, yes the locket is gorgeous but I wouldn't say no to to the lips ring if offered it . thank you for sharing
I just had to comment and repeat many of the comments here - that team of presenters is my fave! More of those two lovely women please 😊. Really liked the format and the objects in the video. That Courtship/Matrimony cup is just genius!!! However, for me, learning about the existence and work of Louise Handgavl took the cake! Thank you!
Favorite object (super easy on the eyes and heart): the tiny heart locket. Favorite object (hard): the engraving of the enchained Baron Friedrich on the pewter beaker in his Magdeburg prison.
Loved it!!! Looking forward to the next one. Soon please ?!
Subscribe so you don't miss it!!
What a delight. An absolute wee gem of a programme ❤
Brilliant! My favourite piece is the exquisite pendant
This was so weird in the best way! Making art and history fun, lively and not so serious. Can’t wait to see more of these!!
I am absolutely here for more videos where Iona and Kate talk about things. They’re absolutely brilliant!
What a wonderful video. You both are making history interesting and accessible.
Iona bringing the sauce to the table. Again. Love it.

Loved this, both ladies were amazing
God, this episode was such a delight! You two gorgeous ladies are such gems - I loved the playfulness, the humor of your presentation, the diversity of the objects and the exciting facts you served us alongside this fantastic array of "date-related" artefacts. Amazed greetings from Germany! ❤
Yay Iona’s back! And this time with the lovely Kate. Love the style of these videos ❤
Super fun video!!
Favourite object was the mug. Been married nearly 40 years. Made me giggle. 😊

Interesting, enjoyable and an educational experience!

Are you a sister ???
@@joaquinribeiro2941 feels like it:))
More Iona, please ❤
When I saw the white porcelain sculpture I immediately thought of Anthony Polaliolo little bronze sculpture "Anthée and Hercule" (15th century). Could this have been a source of inspiration to the artist?
Really fun and interesting
All veins lead to the heart so....
Cheeky! Made me laugh
👀🍑
This was such a great video! Laid back and funny!
A+ effort with the presentation format! Love it!
If the portrait of Georgiana Duchess of Devonshire was really made in 1812, one more reason for its being the perfect online dating profile photo would be that it was... shall we say, a little out of date. Then again, she might just have added an honest disclaimer, which would have had to sound a bit like this: "Okay, so this is a slightler older pic, as I have been married for 38 years now, and dead for the last six."
This is wonderful, great presentation thank you.
Great job, Iona and Kate. Loved the objects and the presentation - really made me smile. 😁
You two ladies make this extra enjoyable. Thanks😄🇨🇦
Already subscribed and hit like before even watching! Very entertaining ladies, looking forward to more.
And just for the record, the miniature. Or the locket.... or the snuff box.... or the gold ring, or the wine glass.....
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Everyone in the comments gloves you, it seems
My friend found a used jonny in the male loos at the V&A last August

"Friendship" huh? It's so funny how homosexual relationships in ancient times are just glossed over with such a benign word...
Louise Hinsgavl is still alive, rather than Google her intentions why not contact her directly? You work for the V&A, I’m sure she’ll take the call. P❤️
Fun video almost completely ruined by the background music.
We were going for the cheese-factor, so beg to disa-brie 🧀
Ha!! You are forgiven! :-)@@vamuseum

The curators are lovely but I could do without the comedy format. What I liked about previous videos is that they let the humor in the objects speak for itself (the valentines card video is a great example). Although I wish these videos would reach an even wider audience, and I understand that's the aim of the editing here, I think it's refreshing when media doesn't spell out how you should feel about everything, especially objects of art. Anyway the story of that stemmed glass is rather touching.
Awful sound effects in this video... I would have expected something less tacky and jarring from the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Love seeing the interesting objects ❤, but not the misjudged presentation format, sorry. On this occasion the tinsel background and metalic balloons are particularly uninspiring
Don’t be such a wet blanket
