- Horsetail Fall is a small, ephemeral waterfall that flows over the eastern edge of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley. For two weeks in February, the setting sun striking the waterfall creates a deep orange glow. For an audio described version of this video, go to • Yosemite Nature Notes ... .
Yosemite seems to be an open wound,
revealing itself in an obvious manner making complete the totality of nature evident to the casual or impassioned observer alike. A special place that holds a cosmic event in a park full of rare environments and geology not seen anywhere else!
First time I'm hearing of this, better late then never, absolutely beautiful..

Vidéo svp.!!!
Woderful!!!
I'm no hippy, but I feel my life somewhat more complete after coming to the USA and seeing Yosemite NP a few years ago.
I can't wait to take my two sons there when they are old enough.
Nice job Steve, very enjoyable
the best place ive ever seen :)
Amazing
what a spectacle... (I'd love to see a video of it from a different angle because I'll probably never see it in person and it's a little hard to grasp how this phenomenon works from one angle)
who can hate this.. I seriously wanna now!!
Once again, you nailed it, Steve. Bravo zulu!
very special.
I was there on February 20, 2016 and I think just about every photographer in California was there to shoot the falls. Traffic started backing up around 2 pm and by 5 pm, the Valley was in gridlock. I've never seen the Valley so packed, not even on a holiday weekend in summer. Prepare to battle the crowds if the falls are flowing in 2017 and you want to shoot it!
Great video
Awesome^^
espectacular
That coal fire fall... what an idea (and cautionary tale) lol.
Inmountainlavaception!!!!!
WOW!
I'm heading to Horsetail fall this Feb. 14-17th with my girlfriend. Hope we will see the phenomena this year!!!
Hey Kevin, any luck seeing the falls? Im heading there this weekend.
@Bloodnswash I think the Firefalls is something different. The locals suggested that was something where they dumped burning logs over a waterfall.
@kakapipipupuchupa : not sure what you mean: the original firefall was a show put on for a time. I heard that the park officials decided it was creating a mess (burnt wood and blackened, scarred rocks) and not in the spirit of a natural wonder like Yosemite is meant to be. The last firefall took place Thursday, January 25, 1968.
Absolutely stunning - as we left the park February 13, 2011, we "happened" upon it and the dozens of photographers that were waiting in hopes that it would happen and when it did they were popping wine and snapping hundreds of pictures. We were in awe, and took some video for youtube and camera/phone pictures and just felt really blessed that our timing(His timing) was impeccable that evening.
Merci SCMB
@kinsmed I believe that it has to do with the positioning of the sun relative to the falls. It's only at that position (range) for those two weeks.
@kinsmed yup, it IS in the video. Two weeks in February, each year, IF there is enough water in the falls and IF there is no cloud cover at sunset.

Mennyi fotótechnika van ott felhalmozva!!!
❤
Wow
Votoria como uma das oitavas maravilhas do mundo .
@kinsmed I guess they made the assumption that most adult people understand that the earth's position to the sun changes a little bit each day. And, because of that, the angle of sunlight on the waterfall is right for creating that lighting effect only for those two weeks each year. The angle would be correct in August, too, but at that time, there isn't enough water in the falls.
@BellaMare Yes, I think this is as close to Heaven as we mortals can experience. At least some of us are capable of understanding what Yosemite really is. My daughter is a Natural Science teacher and has guided a few groups through the park. For my first visit, my son in law and I had her as our guide. As the woman in the video says: everywhere you look, you see something beautiful and awe inspiring.
întârziat :)
GOD TRULY IS AMAZING:)
Amen to that!
@DavidSLynch - answering my own question: I found out that the piano piece is by Emmett Cooke and is titled "Constant Motion". A non-commercial album of Cooke's work can be purchased at sonicoctave-dot-com
Which is the slow music in the clip? Thank you for answering
@crpederson (sarcasm)is it contrived to wait until night fall to see the stars? Is it contrived to travel half way around the world to see some mountains in Yosemite? I mean it just proves people don't appreciate where they live and just visit the mountains close by to them? (/sarcams)
@zippywebgenie Where in the video does it say WHY it needs to be those two weeks?
Is this the end of the whole series? The Horsetail is really beautiful.
whats the best season to get to see the firefall??
Hey Yose! News outlets seem to be using this video on their web pages without credit! The outreach efforts of NPS deserve better!
Instead of water fall, what happened to me was power lines right before sunset, I thought the power lines was overloaded and glowing red.
It will, in the next patch
which 2 weeks in February does this occur?
@kakapipipupuchupa This isn't exact, but around February 12th to 22nd, IF there is enough water flowing to create the falls and IF you catch a good clear sunset.
what is the name of the piano piece starting at 0:18?
So it WASN'T mentioned why in the video?
i thought it was lava at first!
I want to see this
But it is never mentioned in the video why it has to be that specific time of year.
C'est ça! Vite SCMB
Notch needs to fix this glitch.
Water with lava texture.
@gotbuddy LOL!!
I love N Cali the redwoods, forests etc
ouep scmb ça sert x)
Se coucher moins bête ^^
Si toi aussi tu es là grâce à SCMB...!
@bellestarr71 'Obvious' requires conjecture.
Amount of water? Shadow?
Study Stonehenge and you'll have a better idea of why it MIGHT be necessary.
As a professional photographer, this is what I need to know... but was NOT mentioned in the video.
Its obviously a texture pack, the standard textures doesn't have such high resolution.
Combien de personnes sont là grâce à SCMB ?
JMCMB
Scmb fait faire des vue haha

@PhotoShopChannel : Eh, okay. I take it you have all the answers - why aren't you out there lecturing the rest of humanity instead of butting into a discussion of a TOURIST ATTRACTION? Offering unwanted "free advice" to strangers IS testing your fate, fool.
nare nici un sens ce zici..
WOW!
Merci SCMB
What is the piano piece and artist that starts at about 6:25??
