Thought I saw a big deer sitting in the bush with a big smile....hmmmm those gona be some good eatin😅
Your wildlife family will have a feast in those gardens.
You guys better put electric fences around those beds or deer 🦌 moose, bear and other critters will help themselves to your vegetables 😉
Good morning C.C.Rider. Grand to see you. Praying with you my friend.
I’m thinking it’s going to be a nice salad bar for them. 😂
Do the George and Mildred - sorry Miles - shed enough coat through the grooming to warrant collecting it and turning it into arron sweaters🇬🇧😊
Maybe Brutus could guard the plants during the day lol
@@anthonywilson2346Aran is sheeps wool from Ireland . Brutus fur made into yarn might be a bit scratchy😛😁
Miles and George are just big fluffy paddock puppies.
It's Myles.
I’m old enough to remember 1940 when the Boy Scouts in the UK were putting together the Anderson corrugated bomb shelters in our gardens. They looked just like your plant tubs but were far heavier. After the war they became indestructible garden sheds.
Your deer are going to extremely happy with the assortment of food you planted for them.
Was thinking electric fencing around it
Gina is the only gardener who doesn't want dirt on the ground.😂😅❤
Weeds grow in dirt that’s on top of the barrier!
The compost is better soil than the ground, and the plastic cuts down on weeds, too.
If you leave dirt on top of the weed barrier, weed seeds will germinate on top of it!
That’s not a real farmer! That’s a hobby! 😢
Nice to be outside doing projects. Good luck on your gardens
Good Morning. It's hard to believe it's May already. This year is flying by. I'm glad you have your garden beds ready for planting. Maybe you can put down some deer repellent around the perimeter of the tarp to repell the deer. I use the one for squirrels at my house and that repellent does work. Have a wonderful weekend. ❤️
Howdy Gayle
The rain should settle the compost down into the debris. May have to add more compost. The homestead is fantastic.
you should install a good back scratcher for them! It could even be several bristle brooms on the side of the barn for them to "satisfy" that incredible itch !
Is there a 7-10’ fence planed for the secret garden?
Once the word is out - it won’t be a secret anymore 😉
We have some plans for keeping the animals out. We’ll find out if it works
@@LumnahAcres If you don't try, you'll never know !

How about some drone footage of the not so secret garden, are you going to do any anti wildlife measures or is it going to be a free lunch (and breakfast and dinner) for all.😊🇬🇧
The moose are going to love it
Good Day from Kamakura, Japan! 🇯🇵 Hello Lumnah Acres Family & Friends! Enjoy your weekend everyone!🤩🐶👍🏾
Good morning Robert. Guess i better say “Hello”and head to bed.

Good evening Robert, I pray you have a blessed weekend my friend in Japan ! 😁👍🏼
Good morning Robert
You guys should get a small old, used, flat deck snowmobile trailer to pull behind the SxS. You could put on some stakes and haul all kinds of things. Like planter frames for instance, lol.
Last night, a thought came to mind about Gina’s Secret Garden. Since it’s no secret, and since the garden is uphill from the house, how about Mount Food-G? (pronounced almost as Fuji.) The G being far Gina!
Now that's a great name😂
I like. Cool name
Great job Al, would have never believed that you could pickup the old beds so easily. Cheers.
The beds from the “old” garden really seemed to transfer well to the new one. May you have abundant crops this year. Now you can even freeze dry anything extra!
Good morning Lumnah family from a sprinkling rain Pacific NW! Good morning viewers. My Osteopath fixed my left knee yesterday! No more snaps, crackles, and pops! He put my bone back in place! My knee feels wonderful. It finally feels normal. I love Gina's raised beds! I'm so excited for you guys! So cute to have Brutus up to supervise. That's a big bed. I'm glad they have cross braces to keep it from bowing out. TYM to fill the beds. Hugulkultur is great. I like the weed free part! Myles and George are such mellow creatures! Nice job lifting off the other raised beds Al. You have water! Yay, asparagus! Nice garden Gina! Thanks for this video Lumnah family!
Good morning, Kathryn! Pacific NW? Wow! I understand it is very beautiful there. Have fun and be safe!

You two are amazing I have been watching you for ten years.
Secret garden looks great!!
I like the look of those raised beds.💕💕🌻🌻
I like the over your shoulder view when your driving 😊
The Deer will love it, no really it looks great, but Im thinking it will eventually just be to far away from the homestead, our veggie garden was no more than 15 metres from our house.
I agree, too far from the house.
We will have to keep them away.
I have watched Alex and Simeon for years when they were at the Sweedish Homestead and he had Highland cattle. It is amazing how they know exactly where the tips of their huge horns are! I bought the mini blower from Harbor Freight to keep the debris off my "fabric" and weed-free! I love my beds over the fabric and the clean look, it is so nice on bare feet because I get to have my garden right outside the door. That is the perfect way to use the fabric and keep weeds down and see where you are walking without the danger of snakes or anything that can sneak up on me gardening!
Those raised beds look great.
Good morning from Amish country Pennsylvania! Al, any plans to put a game camera up to watch over the secret garden to see who finds it first? Deer, Moose maybe? Always like your explanations of why you do things a certain way, whether it’s because of where you live or just something new you’re trying, it’s nice to know the thought process behind it. Have a wonderful weekend!
By the way, UA-cam turned off my notifications once again, now I have to check the rest, but they’re not as predictable as you so I knew something was up.

Good morning from wintery Australia. Good thing about brushing George and Miles everyday, is it will keep the ticks down, as Highlands are prone to ticks more than any other breed due to their coats, also get that electric fence up asap. Every critter within a 100 kilometer radius will make a beeline for it once the word gets out.
Their Coffee is the Best. So love your Garden
Gooood morning Lumnah's! The Gina's " secret garden" is looking fabulous. Enjoy so watching Brutus, Miles, and George becoming part of the homestead. Thanks for sharing.

Green kale is a versitile plant. Let it stand and get some frostbite to get sweetness. Can be harvested as it stand in winter. Can be used fried or in a soup. My favourite, soup with crispy bacon on top.

Good job Gina on your secret garden. It really looks nice. With Al’s help you really pulled that off quickly. So great that you could just transfer last year’s garden beds up to the new spot. Wishing you a bountiful garden season filled with many of rich harvests!! 😊❤
So happy to see it done I can't wait to see it growing in all beautiful and full of good food.
I love seeing all the green grass! Just great! 👍
Have to admit that there is never a dull moment at Lumnah Acres!!!!! I love it!!
Gina, you must be very relieved and happy to get the garden started!
What a dream garden, Gina! Can't wait to see some fruit trees going in and everything blooming 😍
if you have a hot dry summer, and Gina can drive that 'fire trailer' then she'll be able to use it to water the raised beds on her own. and i think everyone will be super impressed. :)
The secret garden has a spring that flows down past harvest House to then supply the 3 hydrants used for watering the animals, a Spring Box that will reserve water for secret garden is planned when the ground becomes less saturated for excavation !
@@4Classie it's still a pretty long way to have to drag a hose. and honestly i'd just like to see Gina continue her homesteading development skills. she's come so far already.
@@PaulC001
I agree with you Paul, the water hose only needs to be placed once, it will not freeze in summer, hopefully before Winter Al uses Excavator to tie into secret gardens Spring by digging a plunge-pool, also' that same Spring flows to the Spring-box that Al uses for his three hydrants that water the animals !
He would be wise to bury a water tank where the Secret Garden cliff leads down to Harvest House for water pressure purposes and firefighting ability !
Soon Al will be able to dig, but not just yet !
28:58 I think Gina needs a she shed right there so that she can do all her transplanting and germination stuff
The garden looks so nice , so far !! Can't wait to see it grow ! I LOVE YOU ALL !! 🥰 🥰 🥰
What a beautiful garden area! I LOVE my Vego beds!
The garden is looking great, Al and Gina. Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate your class, and professionalism
This garden should work well for your family to be able to store food plus have fresh food thru the growing period. Great job Al and Gina. Tell Miss Olivia hi. We'd love to see her sometime since this is the changing times for her age. Miss her and her hobbies of what she's
interested in these days. ❤😊
Hi everyone hope all is going well,i was taken note of your garden area you will have to put a fence sytem around it to stop the likes of deer moose and bear getting into it
I’m surprised Brutus didn’t try to steal the sticks, I know my dogs would.😊😊
"Gina's Secret Garden" looks awesome! Itll be alot easier to maintain without weedeating, plucking plants, and the errant weed seeds being blown around. It'll make a great tossed salad for the wildlife there though, some sort of fencing required...lol 😂😅 Love ya'll ❤️

Hello there to the Lumnah Family and all visitors to the OGP site! Fabulous day on your homestead!
We have 47°F w/rf of 42°. And a lot of rain. Sunday and Monday will be dry, and then, according to the forecast, we will have four or five days of rain. Yesterday I was in my garden or my neighbor's garden just about all day. I was one tired dirty girl! It will pay off in the long run.
Howdy DH! Have a good one!
@samvalentine3206 Well, hello there, Mr. & Mrs.! I hope that you both are feelin' fine.✨️🙏🖖🦉📚🐈⬛🫖☕️🏕🌲
We live in the interior of Canada a small community. The deer are at least 10 generations so we’re over thrown especially with new construction in our wooded forest. It’s almost impossible to grow unless you have a greenhouse,We also have Bears so kitchen compost is difficult even with a garden compost container. The deer eat everything shrubs flowers anything.I have literally spent a fortune even with plants and shrubs they don’t like lol,They can jump a 15 ft.fence just standing still so it’s a huge challenge and hopefully our community can agree to regulate the population. Also there are literally herds of them all around a We have all had an accident with deer involved.I hit a deer at twilight on our Hwy into town at 90klm.Totalled our Juke with a mere 3 payments left and hurt my entire body I was bedridden for 3 years, still can’t sit down ! Anyway off track a bit but yes protect your garden 🤗🇨🇦❤️Your Homestead is beautiful and your animals are so very loved by you Congratulations on all your hard work💜💜💜
Wow Gina 😊 your Secret Garden with the raised beds came out very nice 😊 Good luck with it 👍
The raised beds look great you guys. Can’t wait to see it full of plants.
you guys are one of my favorites and I visit regular but I think your worries about weeds is not over. There are more weed seeds blowing by everyday than you covered with your tarp
I knew what you needed, back when you were building the house. It is something that many old southern houses have (a back porch pantry) and most old New England houses have (an air lock entry). It is also a good morning room for eating breakfast or drinking coffee, facing the sunrise and garden, at a little table for 2 to 4. It is a quick look outside toward the garden from where you're cooking in the kitchen: you just leave the pantry door open, and the one from the pantry to the back porch pantry addition. It brings in light and a view from the back, and maybe ventilation when you need it. And there's shelf space along the back wall, all except the door to the inside pantry, and shelf space under the counter, under the wrap around windows (somewhere, there is a back door, providing a quick trip to and from the garden). You have a few indoor, potted plants, on the shelf, under the windows. It gives you a place to keep and run the freeze drying machine, convenient to the kitchen and freezer. Outside, you keep a small, convenient herb garden and maybe salad garden, for the most used herbs and salad vegetables. The garden cart is parked there. Your basket is parked there. Your boots are parked there.
They haven't built the house yet. Where they are presently living is going to be a working area. I don't think they have made up their minds yet about exactly where it is going to be located.
You are a great guy. Why. , christian, good husband, good father, good brother, good son , good homesteader / farmer, and handyman / Mr. Fixit . I get tired just watching you. 8:51
Love watching you both brush Miles & George. I'm getting excited for your garden too. You both work so hard & it shows on your property.
◇Warning◇ If you don't already have plans for this ... Be sure to plan a tall fence around your garden to keep the deer out, and you may need a dog house for the rabbits and such !
8:51
It’s been a while since we saw Tanner, he’s so cute , missed seeing him, have a good day from NewBrunswick Canada 🇨🇦
Happy wife happy life it’s fantastic when dreams come true 💞
Hi Al, Gina & Brutus. That was anexcellnt revamp for Ginas Garden nice work to bring amazing food.
Al i think you need the next lot of soil t6aken up to the garden.
Take Care Happyb Family.
Good Morning! The deer are going to LOVE your secret garden. They won't even have to bend down to graze! They can jump 8 foot chain link, so I suggest hoop frames with welded wire fencing over them so the bees can get to the flowers. I tried hugelkultur in one of my raised beds a few years ago. That bed had a lot more fungus infecting the plants than the others. I don't have any deer around, but I had to build tiny electric fences around the beds to keep the squirrels out.
Gooooooood Morning guy
Great Day in the Morning 🌄 from the South !!! 😊😊😊
Are you going to install a temporary fence around it/
Annnnnd just like that I have four yards of compost and four more of loam being delivered next Monday, thanks for the motivation. Since going over to raised beds years ago my spine loves me again and with micro watering all installed UNDER the top barrier cover it’s a set up and forget garden. Plus I skipped the brush dump run by layering the bases of all beds. No weeds now so the only maintenance is the occasional pruning and supporting then harvesting. Gardening is easier than days gone past and next on the to do list is getting some chickens! My neighbor has some and after tasting some from a dozen she brought me I’d be a fool not to keep some in the yard! Such a difference in taste let alone the prices skyrocketing it’s insane. I’m not exactly a boonies farmer but as for the burbs of Boston I’ve got this. Oh before I forget, the cold brew is sooooo good! I still need that morning kick from the sunrise roast but as the days get hotter my coffee will get colder and it’s really good! Ok, off to assemble a few five foot rings together to make a 5’x3’ bed for onions and garlic and chives! Probably throw another herb in there too, maybe rosemary that’ll hang over the edge and not take up much space😉 ✌🏼
that is a awesome garden, never used raised beds when I had a garden, but many people that I know always said you get a longer growing season and it is much easier to maintain so I think Gina you're going to be very happy with that guarded
Now for the deer.
Since you have seen bears in your area, I would suggest an electric fence around your garden area. Fruit trees and berries will draw in the bears in the area so I put the fence up now so if the Bears do get too close, they'll learn their lesson and go away, rather than clear out your garden before they go! ❤ 😊 👋🏼
Al a type of Cow to consider; Belted Galloways ( the "Oreo" Cow ) were imported to North America beginning in the 1940s, and the Belted Galloway Society in the United States was founded in 1951.
Beneath the flashy appearance is a very useful animal. The Belted Galloway is well adapted to cold, rugged climates; as part of this adaptation, the cattle grow a shaggy hair coat (a “double coat”) in the winter. In the summer, Belted Galloways shed this coat and tolerate warm climates better than most other cold-adapted cattle. Galloways are medium in size, with cows weighing about 1,000 lbs. and bulls about 1,600 lbs. Cows show strong maternal instinct, including the ability to protect calves against predators. They are polled.
Belted Galloway beef, like that from Galloways and other Scottish breeds, is of high quality and can be marketed in a variety of specialty niches, including grass-fed and organic beef. The long body conformation increases the production of high-priced cuts of beef. Hides may be used to make rugs, and the belting pattern combined with the shaggy hair makes these products distinctive and attractive.
In Europe, the breed is considered a “light grazer,” meaning that its relatively light bodyweight makes it preferred for grazing where heavier animals would damage marginal lands. Belted Galloways are also known for their browsing ability and ability to graze coarse grasses that other breeds avoid, giving them added value in the management and diversification of grasslands.
Their hardiness and gentle temperament as well as their attractive coloring make them a favorite choice for beginning farmers.
With me coming from Scotland, but living in Thailand it great to see the Highland Coos are settling in well.

It is important to Puddle In the first two buckets of soil on top of the wood. Use a water hose to puddle in
If you don't puddle in you will have air pockets around the wood that takes awhile for the soil the go down. This creates a problem in a year or two if the Hugelkulturs are not stratigicly placed. You may need to add another bucket or two of soil.
Always Puddle In a Hugelkultur!
