    I used to work in a Nokia repair centre back in the late 90s early 2000s and used to fix about 30 of these a day, they were so simple to fix and Nokia used to allow a full refurbishment for all warranty repairs , phones used to come in looking like they were through a tour in Afghanistan and left looking brand new 😅

      I did the same workimg for Vodafone’s Commumications Repair Centre in Nottingham. Like you said, we could foash 10phones in one second all at once (used to love that) change voltage meters etc, swap parts and leave the factory that same day. Nokia’s are like

    If you enjoy these more in depth videos then let me know. These take lots of time to make and I like hearing your thoughts. This one was a fun one to make. I learned heaps more about the 33xx series models. And I've been able to play some great games in the process.
    Here is the link to PMM Manager by Jeep. I spent a good couple of hours searching for this software after reading about it in forums. Finding this was the key to this entire story. The Internet Archive really is an amazing resource.
    web.archive.org/web/20080417092036/www.knopas.neostrada.pl/download.htm
    I'm going to try making some less involved videos that are faster to produce. Though, I keep saying that and then find myself going down endless rabbit holes. Whatever happens, I hope you keep enjoying these videos as much as I enjoy making them.

      Edit: also, the one I found does run on Win98, though it's less comfortable to use on the 800x600 screen of my Armada

    Great video. Our studio made Munkiki’s Castles for Nokia back in those heady, J2ME days. And you tried Super Bloc Bloc, which was also a game from our studio (the designer and coder of Super Bloc Bloc now runs Bitmap Bureau). because of these three videos with Nokia DCT 3 phones I ended up buying a couple of lots with good and bad Nokia 3310, 5110 and their modifications, service cables, JAF flasher, and everything. Now I have five 3310 in good condition, I modified one of them with white LEDs, one Korean 3315, one good 3330, three 3410, one with limited edition Space Impact cover, and second is silver in mint condition still with factory screen protector on (got this one for 10$), two 5110 in great condition with 6 batteries for them, and a whole box with covers, parts, motherboards, screens that you can put together and make another ten 3310 ones. I just can't stop now😂 Many sellers sell these devices very cheap in broken, not a working condition, but after cleaning some contacts on the motherboard and power button itself the motherboard works great again

    I used to write games for this, along with the other J2ME phones - mostly sold them into China and Finland. Made versions of Pacman (screen scrolled up/down to follow action), Pengo, Donkey Kong and some other platformers. I think we were limited to about 30Kb for everything - code, graphics and audio at the time :) There is no "3D engine" in the phone - the game itself just draws directly to the display.

      Nokia designed a 3D engine that was provided to their licensed second party game designers.
      It's documented in depth on one of the phone forum he mentions it's never been leaked but we have the full documentation for it. It only worked on the 3410.

    • @Stabby666
      @Stabby666 8 місяців тому

      @@Stabby666 it's a long time since I read up on this, so my knowledge isn't as sharp as it was, but I know Nokia developed a 3410 3D engine of some kind, that only worked on the 3410 using built in "hooks" as Nokia described them that they'd left in that specific model

      @@JanusCycle I had so much fun with those devices. s60 through s60v3 was just amazing to me at the time. emulators for retro game systems, its own gaming platform that can be patched onto any of the unofficial devices, expandable memory, plenty of models with more advanced stuff like tv out and controller support. they could emulate the gba which was still on sale at the time and play it on a tv. just so much fun tinkering.

    I love the interfaces and aesthetics of these old nuggets of the 90s and 00s, especially the LG and Samsung ones from 2002 - 2010ish. I wish that someone would make MAME / RetroArch cores that would preserve these old phones. I would love to see something like the Samsung SCH-A630 and the LG VX4400 as a computer program, these old phones can't be any more challenging to emulate or be more powerful than a DS.

    Wow. I never expected you to just be able to Frankenstein a whole new higher res display on an older phone model. Same chips, same graphics processors, just drop new display in and boom. Wow. How does the firmware recognize the display? I would've assumed that it would just look stretched or part of the graphics being cut off due to the higher resolution.
