I love the process of learning new poi. How the first few times a move is super restricted and out of control, and gradually gets looser, and more accurate, and then you get to the point where you can move it to any part of your body.

I realized that I've learned poi backwards, and when I started teaching, I stressed the importance of the basics. There are so many basic and intermediate moves that come from knowing just your reels, and your 2 beat weaves. Once I get people to realize that they can relate the more complicated moves to the beginner moves, it makes the learning process so much easier. Just with a little tweak of a 2 beat weave, and suddenly a person can do a crosser on the day he/she wants to learn it. Do your reels in split time, and you'll learn watermills and windmills in secons/minutes instead of hours and days. All of these things that I had to learn over a REALLY long time, and it wasn't until that I went to basics that I discovered the importance of these things.

I couldn't agree more. I'm a rubbish teacher because people (adults) can get bored with what I'm teaching really quickly, as they want to do the complicated moves straight away rather than practice and get their planes in.

Hey Nick, just wanted to let you know what an inspiration you are to people. Been playing with Poi for about two months now, if it hadn't been for these tutorials I probably would have put them down a while back. I still have a ways to go, but watching these videos always drives me to be better than before.
    You're the best, homie :D

I am grateful for all the free lessons graciously made accessible by one father king mother of a poi spinner. He makes it look so easy and- it is not. Thank you so much!!

Your videos are great! I've learned much only by your explanation. Thank you very much.
Even if I am a beginner right now, I started some poi videos for beginner in german. Most videos on UA-cam are in english and I want people, who can't understand english, start playing poi as well. And start love playing poi like me.
While looking forward to the next video I will practice this one. :-)

I'm a flagger & use some of them to translate over to swing flags, but I'm really struggling to get this with swing flags... and the windmill... ugh, I just can not seem to get that down either. I wish u could make tutorials for swings flags, too :D

I’ve been practicing on and off for a couple years now. I have good rhythm but I need to get better at more tricks. My face is the 2 beat but I have a long torso, short arms and big hips, I’m also overweight and I don’t know if my poi are the right length for me. But you do it perfectly great job :)

I don't get why you call it a 2 beat weave, I wasn't able to do it, or make sense, until!! i just did a 3 beat weave and then it flowed. I've come back to this and tried to do it with a 2 beat weave and it does not work. but with a 3 beat weave, it works no problem
