That "brain hurting" feeling is soooo real... I played for 18 years since CS beta with my mouse inverted, and 2 years ago I switched (due to a UA-camr of my old age in the same situation that made aiming and accuracy tests that "proved" a huge improvement after switching) the first days were a nightmare were, as you say, you could feel your brain struggling with something new after being used to something else for so long... I have also always played on native resolution (and thus 16:9 aspect ratios for a while now) and you're making me think about making my brain hurt again... (espèce d'efoir*** ;P)
I am also an old old player from the early days, I also used to play inverted mouse, ha! It went back to the first shooters I played, like Quake, and because I had played flight sims and stuff before then I thought reverse Y-axis would be the way to go. No wonder I ended up in silver for the first year! It actually only took a few days to adjust, shoulda done it years ago :D
@@markdaniels9851 Indeed, we should all blame the flight sims... hehehe I also significantly took off after un-inverting the mouse and as you mention, it took surprisingly little time to adapt... I would never have guessed that the brain could adapt itself so quickly to such a change... The first couple of days though... :D
it’s normal, I have watched as much as I can remember csgo vids (highlights or else) and I as a viewer used to playing and viewing 4:3 clips ..... as long as you don’t mind we want more of this relevant 4:3 content
It's called "Honeymoon period". Play with this resolution for couple of weeks and you will hit a slump. I played on 4:3 1024x768 since cs 1.6 and every time I tried changing it up, it felt amazing for a little while but would always make me switch back to 1024x768.
1:30 no one gonna talk about the #1 player of 2019😅 , and i was watching your video from long time and i will still do with the new resolution for sure
You also gotta keep in mind that although the distances are stretched larger, the time variable in-game hasn't stretched to be longer along with the distances, so things move a larger distance in the same amount of time. That means things will move faster on your screen. So if you're used to 16:9, you will surely notice that. I tried the 4:3 res and that did NOT improve my performance at all, mainly because I was too used to predicting the speed of everything in 16:9, so hitting a moving target was way harder for me. Strafing and then counter strafing also gave me a sensation that I walked out more than I should have, and thus resulting in me playing uncomfortably, overall having negative impacts on my performance. I do not recommend trying a new resolution unless you intend on mastering it and giving it all those hours of practice you did for your former resolution. In a side note, 4:3 really helps with seeing through molotovs and the HE grenade's dust clouds for some reason.
One or two days after this i was "lucky" enough to meet him with his 5 stack in mm as he was streaming- he ran around with a mac10 the whole time and got 30+kills, fun.
Try out playing 1440x1080, it's a custom 4:3 res, it gives u the same effect as 1280x960 but it will hurt your eyes less and it will look better in videos
Also if using Nvidia card use Nvidias profile inspector so you can enable "Nvidia quality upscaling". Next have your GPU do the scaling instead of your display.
I honestly prefer stretched more but I continue playing 16:9, cause I value consistency the most, in terms of sensitivity. I just don’t like that sens on stretched is different in terms of up/down and left/right
Stretched gives you lower FOV. It's like you're playing with AUG/Krieg scope all the time. This is objectively superior to a higher FOV, because in CS you'll almost never need extra peripheral vision - every position is standard and every enemy is always in the same place. It's better to give yourself extra accuracy by having more pixels dedicated to each enemy. So, the next time you complain about someone using a "CoD gun" - every pro is essentially playing is "CoD gun mode" all the time.
That's the thing. In some super specific situations it might feel better without the "scope" (like when someone ferrari peeks your double zoomed awp). But mostly yea I agree, zoom better
A resolution that I recommend trying to incorporate is still stretched, it's 1440x1080. You still get that nice crisp 1080 res while still playing in stretched.
I've been using wasd for cleardecals so long that I didn't even react to blood disappearing on your screen lol Also one disadvantage of using 4:3 is you get flanked more often. Which is offset in pro games by teammates but it can mess you up in mm.
aspect ratio doesnt matter when it comes to getting flanked. just always consider the possibility of getting flanked. also map awareness (if teammate doesnt callout)
I was just watching all your old vids for the 5th time and was wondering when are you gonna make a new vid ... Even though you made one s few days ago :) Also I have no problem about what resolution you use and this video made me wanna try stretched :)
I've played CS:S before from 2010-2012 with 1440x900 (16:10), when I went to CS:GO my PC was rly bad and I had to play with 640x480 (4:3) 75 Hz for 3 years and I got Global anyway for the first time in 2015, in 2018 in january I got a new laptop, wasn't the best but I had 150 fps average and also a 240 Hz monitor (I know it's kinda useless but it's still an advantage), I've quit CS:GO in july of 2018 with 9000 hrs, Global in MM and wingman, 2400+ elo on faceit, with this resolution: 1350x1080 (4:3 but it's actually 5:4, it's basically the same as 1280x1024 but getting all the 1080p of the monitor, you know what I mean) I find this one better because it's even wider than the 1280x960 or even 1440x1080. Also, when you mess with the resolution from 16:9 to 4:3 or whatever, don't forget to change your m_yaw to the correct values so your mouse movement feels the same, by changing your m_yaw, you also need to change the sensitivity, for that use this formula: (YOUR SENS * CURRENT M_YAW) / DESIRED M_YAW And the value you get will be your new sensitivity according to the new desired m_yaw, so the feeling will be exactly the same. Maybe it also helps with your headache a bit: //m_yaw 0.022 - if you use 16:9 //m_yaw 0.0198 - if you use 16:10 //m_yaw 0.0165 - if you use 4:3 //m_yaw 0.01546875 - if you use 5:4
@@Becke963 In native res horizontal and vertical send are identical, when playing stretched they're not anymore because the image is stretched out, so changing the yaw helps but is not necessary if you can live with the horizontal and vertical send being slightly off.
@@adsiz67983 m_yaw is necessary when you switch resolutions and you play with your image stretched, if you have black bars you don't need to change your m_yaw, if you play stretched, changing the m_yaw will correct the sensitivity to the one you were using on 16:9 or whatever.
@@RoboGamerNL No. The sensitivity is still the same as before. It just feels different (at first) because the image is stretched. When you change m_yaw you change the sensitivity.

Done the exact same thing you did a couple of days ago, without watching this video. Had exactly the same conclusions you had and decided to stick to the stretched resolution. After this i stumbled upon your video on youtube. Totally agree!
I switched to 4:3 a while ago... And i perfectly adapted to it and it actually feels easier, with the only downside that im literally blind on the sides now. And when you showed stuff such as Dust II mid door or B tunnel in 16:9... They looked sooooooooo small i was shocked by how different it actually is...
It took me several years of using 4:3 to realise i was in fact using 5:4 resolution, like many others peoples and they still ignore it. The higher resolution in "4:3 slot" is not a 4:3, but a 5:4. Wich is even more streched than 4:3. Very confusing from the developpers
I had to switch to a config after the last couple updates, and it included being auto set to 4:3. Honestly, after a week, it does feel a lot easier. The hardest adjustments were scopes, adjusting for recoil while looking down, and long angles like watching CT from car on dust. Edit: also, it really accentuates the girth of the bowie.
@@herrsteinpilz9823 how ironic, you just proved to not know what zoom means. The centre is closer, the sides are cut off, thats zoom for your tiny brain.
17:50 men can you make a video of explaining how can you see through a thick smoke like those honestly i even pixelated every single frame and couldn't even see the enemy
different comp games benefit from different fovs. resolutions can heavily affect fovs. cs benefits from smaller fovs, it makes targets bigger, things more visible. mordhau (medieval combat) benefits from wider fovs, it makes off screen attacks become onscreen attacks, your drags (slowing a swing by dragging it away from the opponent) become a lot easier to control because you can see more.
Ive played both 4:3 and 16:9 for a substantial amounts of time and the biggest con for 4:3 is that peeks from enemies feel way more faster than normal, sure the models are wider but they travel more pixels on your computer in the same time. It's really frustrating when people jiggle peek and you cannot get one shot off on them. I have switched to 16:9 for good. It's a preference like crosshair or whatever so play in a way which is more comfortable for you.

I made the switch 4 years ago and my game improved a lot, I made my brother make the switch as well! I hate the stretched resolution though
OMG, I can't even think of playing with inverted y and actually aiming at something.
@@ilant To me, after 20 years or more playing inverted, I couldn't think of the opposite... Turns out it made me better ;)

After tausends of hours Jeff finally Beat the Tutorial!

The streched resolution is good, but it has an insane quality drop
try 1440 x 1080 or 1920 x 1440
A resolution that I recommend trying to incorporate is still stretched, it's 1440x1080. You still get that nice crisp 1080 res while still playing in stretched.
Yes or 1920x1440 on a 1440p screen.
Yes 1440x1080 is so nice. It's 4:3 but it's in HD
I've been using wasd for cleardecals so long that I didn't even react to blood disappearing on your screen lol
Also one disadvantage of using 4:3 is you get flanked more often. Which is offset in pro games by teammates but it can mess you up in mm.

I was just watching all your old vids for the 5th time and was wondering when are you gonna make a new vid ... Even though you made one s few days ago :) Also I have no problem about what resolution you use and this video made me wanna try stretched :)
I agree with this dude
Use stretched, it makes you much better with such a simple change. Believe me, its so much better imo than 16:9
Ya stretched is better for me when I first switched it messed up my movement though and things feel a bit faster
Also, when you mess with the resolution from 16:9 to 4:3 or whatever, don't forget to change your m_yaw to the correct values so your mouse movement feels the same, by changing your m_yaw, you also need to change the sensitivity, for that use this formula: (YOUR SENS * CURRENT M_YAW) / DESIRED M_YAW
And the value you get will be your new sensitivity according to the new desired m_yaw, so the feeling will be exactly the same. Maybe it also helps with your headache a bit:
//m_yaw 0.022 - if you use 16:9
//m_yaw 0.0198 - if you use 16:10
//m_yaw 0.0165 - if you use 4:3
//m_yaw 0.01546875 - if you use 5:4
You shouldn't change yaw. Resolution doesn't affect the sensitivity!!!
@@Becke963 That's true, but if you want the same movement as you had before, you can change these values, I've edited the post for the correct way to do that. Try it yourself.

I know, i use 1280x1024 and i realised not long ago it's not 4:3

different comp games benefit from different fovs. resolutions can heavily affect fovs.
cs benefits from smaller fovs, it makes targets bigger, things more visible.
mordhau (medieval combat) benefits from wider fovs, it makes off screen attacks become onscreen attacks, your drags (slowing a swing by dragging it away from the opponent) become a lot easier to control because you can see more.
When I use this res it literally hurts my eyes
I've been using stretch since the beginning and i can't imagine myself playing native. I literally use stretched in every other game i play
I've basically always played stretched, playing native in csgo makes me feel sick, and aiming down has always felt a little weird
Try 16:11 custom resolution, i tried 16:10 but there is no diffrence- 16:11 is kinda stretched but not noticable
