We use the same bucket traps. What we do different was added two thin strips of board (1/2 x 1/2) one on each side to where the wire connects. Screw to top of bucket to almost touching the ground. We then put PB on bottom and top of board and on the can. This encourges the highwire walk to .... However, in the summer not too much luck. In winter, if you use this, put radiator fluid so water does not freeze and instant ....

The bucket traps do work! Try putting just a little trail of peanut butter on the board leading up to the rim of the bucket! Just enough to attract and hold their attention!

Put the peanut butter on a simple wooden mouse trap. The mice try to lick it off and the spring trap comes down on it. The traps are placed on the ground where the mice are and can be re-used many times to catch the mice...they are inexpensive and they work well with peanut butter

The reason the mice ate everything off one side of the can is that it is mounted lop-sided. The can has to spin smoothly in either direction from any position. You don't need such a huge ramp. Mice are poor sighted so they usually run along walls. Check Shawn Woods' channel on UA-cam for everything you ever wanted to know about trapping mice, rats, voles, etc.

I wonder if the plank needs to be closer to the can and maybe put just a little whiff of peanut butter on the very edge of the plank? And definitely cats and I can't wait to see what cats you're getting. You guys are doing so great 👍❣️ love your place 😊

I would use the old wooden traps with stinky cheese. open up the area where the bait goes and get it in there good and tight. I spray pam on the little area where the trigger sits to make it more sensitive.

Hello from the Netherlands . sawdust and certainly also wood chips are a very good ground cover for a stable. and do not attract mice. There are also trap boxes available where several can walk in

  • @mikemarriam

Turn the bucket so that the mice can walk on the wire to get to the can. They are more likely to walk to the can than jump. Also instead of a wire use a wooden dowel. The can will still spin and it will make it easier for them to get to the bait. Also keep the bait in the middle of the can so that they have to get on the can to reach the bait. Set up correctly a bucket trap is deadly effective.

The mice will not go up an open surface normally, but if you have a covered tube going up to the bucket you should catch a lot more as the mice will not think they are out in the opren. either use a piece of black plastic pipie with a tee against the wall, the tee should sit right in their runway, they will explore.

Evan need to do two things 1 need to place the bucket against wall (Mice are blind and they go by sense of feel). Had a piece of would to the top so they walk out and onto the can. Or use a bigger can you want the edge to go right up to the can also put the board flush to the platform. So for example they walk up onto the platform then onto the can

Mouse trap.. Affix a cardboard ramp from both sides of the can to the edge of the bucket. They think it's a bridge and race to get to the can but the cardboard bridge won't hold them. I cleaned my barn out in about a week sometimes getting up to 15 a night. Try the cardboard bridge .

Bucket traps work great. Some advice. Mice run along walls. It appeared you had blocks on either side. Move it to a different location where there are none. Shorten the ramp way up. A couple dollops of peanut butter up the ramp will entice them. The ramp should lead to the rod that the can is on, not directly to the can. They will walk along the rod to the can and fall off. I've caught as many as 2 dozen in just under 12 hours. Good luck!

I use a bucket trap like you do but I made a cantilever ramp about 2X6 (from a 2" Ven. blind) - had to adjust it with a small bolt at the entrance of the ramp by adding a couple of nuts until I got it to work. It has a short string so that it will reset. I put the peanut butter and a few peanuts at the end. When they walk out the blank - it tips and they go swimming. Now we have a cat = she is great - catches mice at night and brings them in and lets them go to play with them --- on the bed. Rebecca - you are luckier than my wife, you keep them in the barn.

You can build a P V C mouse poison station that animals can not get in but the mice can . I had a bad mice and rat problem becouse the put chicken barns next door to our farm. You can see how to make them on line and they do work.reg old mouse traps work well as long as you stay on top of checking them.

I use that style mouse trap all the time it's tried and proven. I add some antifreeze to the water so it can be used year around. The antifreeze also helps preserve the mice for a while so they don't start stinking. Just keep animals away because they like that sweet smell the antifreeze gives off. Also add tape or zip ties to either side of the can so it doesn't slide one way or the other.

My girlfriend had a mouse problem and I found these glue traps. Brought from grocery store n dollar stores have as well. 5 came per pack and you can lay flat or bend to form a little house like deal. Pre bent to keep shape. I just laid flat at the places I saw them running. And within 3 days had caught all of them. I just placed a little small piece of candy on them. Next more they were held fast to that sticky glue that's on them. Non toxic so want hurt livestock are pets. Good luck.

    • @csnanny1882

I have those sticky glue traps. You shouldn’t use around small pets . If they get caught up in them it is almost impossible to get them free without ripping their fur off. I use them to catch roaches. If I had a cat or a dog I would not bring them in my house.

    • @chaunceypullman3380
      @chaunceypullman3380 4 роки тому

@@csnanny1882 if you watched the video, its for the barn in the area where there are no animals. My cat n dog roamed the house freely n never touched them. For roaches you should have used the second syringe bait. Comes in screw of cap syringe that allows you to put anywhere pesky bugs hang out. That way no pets or humans come in contact with at all. Been using in my garage and applied 20 years ago. Haven't had to reapply yet.

They brought them with a cage and we kept them in their designated 'home' area in the cage for a couple of weeks, then we let them have free run in their designated 'home' area for a couple of more weeks. We put in a kitty door and leave some food and water in their designated home area. This seems to keep them coming back. As long as you offer food/water they should consider that their 'home' area. The people you adopt from should tell you more tips.

We use cats for mice control. We will usually rescue feral cats or others that people dont want and have them fixed. Then we keep them locked up the garage for several weeks and feed them and socialize with them to get them used to realizing that this is home. Then we let them out and they'll stay close by to the farm and follow us around....and also totally decimate the mice population, chipmunks, squirrels, and any other rodent pests.

The mouse/bucket needs just a little peanut butter along the ramp. Just drag a knife of it along the board, no need to clump it. Then the mice will sniff their way up to the source. ... It was entertaining to watch the mice in the background sneaking in and out of the shots and just wondering when Rebekah would notice one. lol ... Another option, get a BB gun, pull up a chair, and take shots as they sneak about (when the stock aren't in the barn of course). Make sure you use your best Elmer Fudd voice as you hunt them. haha

Maybe you should try to smear just a bit of peanut butter, not much, but enough to give them a scent to lead them up the ramp to the “gold mine” of more peanut butter and peanuts on the can. Maybe they can smell it, but can’t find it. So “lead” them by smearing a thin layer of peanut butter up the ramp ?!?!

I don't know how you feel about using bait stations. I use tomcat bait, the green stuff. I find it at Fleet Farm, Bomgaars, Menards and so on. You put the stations along the walls in the barn and basement and so on. I comes in little blocks that you can shake into the stations or the Tom Cat stations have little spikes you put the bait on. They eat the bait, go drink water and bleed out internally. Usually go back to their nests. It is an appetite suppressant, they eat it once and then go off and die. Other than the bait you don't have to touch them.
