Wow, I remember seeing a statistic about the most historically average NBA team, and it was the hawks. This was around 2015. Some things never change, I guess.
As a Hawks fan I don't think people consider issues when claiming we should rebuild. Our ownership led by Tony Ressler is incompetent and lately makes moves to save money. Landry Fields isn't experienced enough to get the proper pieces back in a trade. Also, I don't think a trade of Trae Young would yield the return big enough to have a successful rebuild. The team holds onto players for too long like John Collins, Clint Capela and now Dejounte Murray. I wish people actually understood that the issues aren't due to Trae Young-but are at the feet of ownership.
I agree with you, but going forward the rest of this year is on these players ! their pride, Heart, Desire etc. last I checked these were some pretty Good players, particularly 1 thru 8 so isn't it up to them to want, and fight tooth and Nail the remainder of the season for each other.? Your thoughts.
I wish y'all talked more about Trae and the Spurs, especially since San Antonio has Atlanta's 2025 & 2027 picks unprotected (& a 2026 Swap). If the Hawks wanted to blow it up and rebuild, they'd need those picks. It makes the Spurs their best trade partner, especially since that's one of the few places where Trae would be a good 2nd option fit next to Wembanyama.
Why the fuck would they blow it up and rebuild when they are already rebuilding. Trae Young is like 23. You people are ignorant as hell. How about try to get a second star to compliment the player you would blow it up for. They're just gonna get another good rookie make the playoffs then a year later blow it up again? It's a good thing none of yall will ever be GMs and explains why I always win my fantasy league on 2k for money
Inversely, it disincentivizes the Spurs from making that trade. If the Hawks want a rebuild, those picks are arguably as valuable as both Trae and Murray put together. The Spurs might prefer to keep them in their back pocket and shoot for the moon. Goodness knows the Spurs are lucky enough with the lottery. Watch something stupid happen like they end up grabbing both Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey next year.

as a hawks fan that tries to watch as many games as possible this season even though I'm from the uk. It's very simple what our problem is. 1. Dejounte Murray is a Point guard. He isn't a SG and isn't able to defend to an elite standard at that position. is he bad? no, but he's not what we wanted for that. the best player for the role he's in right now which we were trying to get at the deadline is Herb Jones. he would make us a better defensive team and is an actual SG. 2. Ownership. terrible decisions that have changed our timeline. The DJ move i'll give them was a good. move in the right direction with a good idea that just didn't seem to translate as it looked on paper. But the John collins move took 2 years too long and we could have got way more then just a salary dump. its dwindling value in players on our team that we don't capitalise on. I fear the same will have for Hunter and Capela who are starting to regress value wise. Hunter is especially bad. Injury prone and a lack of improvement. He's been good since he came back and ill give him that he's consistent when he plays but as a 4th pick in a draft its painful. Capela is much different. He's older then we need and Is holding back okungwu. only recently has he started to be the main centre and he playing really well. But capela is healthy, consistent and our best interior defender. we need a replacement or teams like the bulls who we have problems with because of our interior defense and horror rebounding which makes an Andre Drummond look like an map candidate. These two need to move this summer. One thing I would say that I don't agree with in your video. Trae is no longer a total negative on defense and I'm going to be honest I think Dame has been worse THIS SEASON. I saw someone say this and I think he said it best, he's a net zero on defense. The effort is now there, he's stealing the ball and has been one of the better players at doing that this season. Trae is just victim to genetics as many are, too short and too weak to handle a Luka or the taller guards in the new NBA. ill give him credit for his defense, his offence gets on my nerves. Just looking at the stats you see an elite scorer and an elite passer, the records he's broken show he's one of a kind yet he's an extremely inefficient player, he's taken 160 30 FT THREES THIS SEASON. Dame has taken around 50 or 60. That's too much, that's why he's so inefficient, its just bad shot decisions no matter how good of a deep three maker he is. But again you have to give him credit that he's a one of a kind type of offensive talent, its hard to make a good comparison to him as a player because no one has had the shot taking with playmaking at that level that he's had. There's a strong chance Trae will break more records the three point one seems to look very doable right now. But I don't blame him and I don't think you can. Trae is Luka but short and skinnier so we got the short end of the stick in the trade. its pretty obvious but you still got dealt a strong hand its all about how you build. I don't trust this team to build about him right but the best option is to retool get players that fit better now you've learnt what works because we have no time left. This summer everything should change. Keep JJ OO Trae they are the only ones safe. I like Bogi he would be 6MOY on a good team but he's on a 10th seed but he's definitely available. Trade Hunter and capela. as well as Aj Griffin ( hasn't played and doesn't want to. ) Bey can leave inn free agency and then you try to be smart with what you do. DJ is on a large contract we can do anything but a trade is inevitable. The pelican trade for Herb jones is my preference. Just hoping this organisation can get some luck and make smart decisions
Praying the ownership takes initiative this off season its tough to see players not being purposed in the way where it fits their best abilities. Coming from a hawks fan we need give our boy kobe bufkin a chance as I think he can flourish and be a very influential piece.
@@swas7083 ye I liked his upside coming out the draft, his fit maybe less but he’s no longer injured. Need to play him over garrison mathews who just does cardio for his minutes. More people are realising how bad the ownership is now for the hawks outside just our fans and ownership is viewed as more of a problem like with the bulls.
Building a team around a short player is probably the worst thing you can do. everything around that player have to be perfect for it to work. No room for errors
Be careful I said the same thing and the Trae blowhards came first me. I didn’t say he sucked, I just said it’s hard to build around him. Great talent/player but your roster is restricted when you have a tiny guard.
Genuinely imo, they need to retool rather than rebuild Dejounte turned out to be a bit of an awkward fit, I would probably move him for depth pieces + a pick, let Jalen Johnson & Okongwo flourish (meaning trade Capela), and try to get 3-d wings You can also have a terrible defensive pg and make it work (circa Isaiah Thomas Celtics)
As someone whose had to sit through many lost seasons with my team, retooling is fools gold. Either make whole sale changes in FA like the suns or get picks and rebuild like OKC. It's unfortunate but it's better to have hope then to hang on and be hopeless.
The Dejounte Murray trade only makes sense if you can convince Trae to play off-ball on offense a lot of the time. That honestly should have been an easy sell, as DJ is a proven distributor. Once the chemistry developed, Trae could stretch the defense, DJ and Clint can go to work in a PnR, and *somebody* is getting an open look every time. That's not how Trae operates, though, so here we are.
great vid, im just thinking if trae goes to the spurs, that's gonna be a great fit because w his passing and vision that suits wemby's rolling and alley oop threat so well and also wemby's all time defensive presence sort of mitigates trae's horrible defense.
Spurs fan here. To be honest, Dejounte wasn’t a great defender, he just always went for steals and tips. He generated steals, but he got beat a fair amount off the dribble and struggled with off ball rotations/help as well. For me, it was evident from the start that he wouldn’t play very well beside Trae, especially on that end.
ATL needs to look at the Celtics and how Brad Stevens made Isaiah Thomas look so good some years back. Be able to cover up his bad defense with effortful defenders and good wing scorers with some extra size who have the capability to create their own shot just when it’s needed
On Tony while he was our offensive engine that was still Tim team. Tim was just in charge of the defensive duties but we all knew if they needed someone to drag them out of a hole Tim would be the one they looked at.
Rockets should trade FVV (expiring contract next season), Jalen Green and 2024 Nets picks for Trae Young. Fred is good trading piece for them to get additional picks or salary match piece for another big move and Jalen is still young, 24 nets pick is top 10 too
as a 24 year old life long bulls fan who’s been told how awesome we were in the 90’s…i’m so glad to see them get trashed for being the definition of “mid”

I really don't understand why people are suprised about Trae's lack of aptitude to be really competitive in the league. He's obviously a great player, but the amount of HOF talent you'd need around him to reasliticaly compete for a ring is just delusional. He's a guy that can easily be abused defensively in the playoffs and is not good enough off-ball. That doesn't exclude that fact the he is a max player to a lot of people, and rightful so. But in the real world, how would you be able to pay 3/4 HOF players to compensate for his deficiencies? It's just not possible man, unless you draft 3 generational talents in a row which is just not gonna happen with Hawks performing as a mid-table team
It doesn’t feel like it, but Trae is only 25. I don’t think you can move on from him yet. I can’t believe they haven’t traded Capela yet! It’s so clear Okongwu is the guy.
Still mind-blowing to me that Philly actually lost to this team in the playoffs. You want to talk about overachieving and that Hawks team is the definition of doing so.
If Trae did get traded, maybe the Raptors would take him. I mean, he'd more than likely be in the same situation as he is right now with the Hawks. But maybe he'd stay there for a year or two and then get traded to a real contender.
So your best bet is to trade Trey with a team that is willing to give you two first-round picks. Because he's that great of an offensive player. Don't rebuild the team around them and expect them to start defending, he's not made for that and unfortunately and I'll never change. Get somebody that solid a defense, but maybe has two less buckets a game
If NBA teams think Trae is so good then the Hawks should get a few starters. Personally I think NBA teams know how much of a defensive liability & inefficient Trae Young is & how a 1 Way Player is not a superstar. As far as Draft Picks the Hawks already played that game & failed when they Traded Luka Doncic for two 1st Round Draft Picks.
I have no dog on the Hawks. I'm a Sactown fan and only really paid attention to Trae Young when we go Huerter. To Hawks fans, your GM fleeced ya drafting him thinking he was the next Curry. Trae Young is simply a stat padder. He's really a 20 and 10 pg. He just shoots 15 free throws a game. You cannot win building around him. He's too small, cannot play defense and that alone taxes the whole team. We can't even win with D Fox and he's lightyears ahead of Trae defensively and deserved all star over Trae.
Outside of Jalen Johnson emerging that team is so inconsistent it hurts and I'm not even a fan of them. Take Trae off this team and they are in a different kind of hell
Better than the worst defender in the league is still awful. He’s just bad on that end. About the best you can hope for with Young is that he doesn’t give back *all* the points he scores on the other end.
@@j09mlop defensive rating is a team statistic. It can vastly underrate or overrate individual defense. *Especially* for guards and centers. KCP has a defensive rating of 116 (compared to his team’s overall defensive rating of 114) but nobody would call him a bad defender if they know anything about basketball. Also, no he doesn’t. As of today, Trae’s D-Rating is 123 to Murray’s 122. Both are awful, though, so who cares?
I think it’s time to blow it up. They are not bad, but they aren’t good either. The worst place to be. So if they are not good enough to contend. Get younger and get your best players on contenders. They don’t have crazy contracts so it will be an easier situation to handle
Trey Young is a really good player and an obvious star, but I feel like he's just not the kind of player who can really carry it. He can be the number one star but he needs a Pippen, or, he can be Pippen, but Atlanta needs a Jordan.
Please update your opinion’s on Trae’s defense. He still isn’t a “good” defender but he isn’t the worst starting defender and definitely isn’t worse than dame. Just look up the defensive metrics 👍🏽
I mean no its really not guys in his 5th season and proven to be at least good enough to take a team to the playoffs and fruther. This would be an extremely short sighted move for the hawks tbh i mean look at Detroit they tried to rebuild and its been 20 years since theyve been anything more then an 8th seed. Its just way to early to start blowing things up even if trae has his problems hes still got time to improve and the team around him is still geneally quite young this isnt the lakers where every player is in his prime or past it, you can realsitcally expect improvement from guys like okongwu and youve got allot of youg trade pieces to move with a guy like dejonte murray next time a star trades available. I get you guys are portland fans and are used to short rebuild periods but thats really not how it always works.
@@C6LD Question do you just spew BS expecting people to believe you? Trae Young statistically this season is the 2nd worst defender in terms of defensive rating only behind Jordan Clarkson. 😂 that back fired on you quick
@@ryanb9305 It didn’t back fire on me actually. I said watch basketball, and you responded with defensive rating (a stat that everyone knows is flawed). So as I originally said he is not the worst starting defender in the league.
why would you love this trade from spurs perspective please? it makes no sence! don't get me wrong, trae is great, but he is probably one of the worst "max contract" guys you could pick up, any team who wants to pick up trae need a ROCK SOLID defence around him.. besides wemby who is already making a case for dpoy, the spors got a very mediocre defence..

2 smal guards? What about d wade?
lakers arent trading reeves after holding him and giving him a contract that benefits both of them
It doesn’t feel like it, but Trae is only 25. I don’t think you can move on from him yet. I can’t believe they haven’t traded Capela yet! It’s so clear Okongwu is the guy.
As a knicks fan let me honestly and truly say F Trae Young
I think the reason we didn't see Murray to the Lakers is because they wanted Trae Young
Still mind-blowing to me that Philly actually lost to this team in the playoffs. You want to talk about overachieving and that Hawks team is the definition of doing so.
Getting rid of Travis Schlenk was the worst move they made smh 🤦🏾♂️
Who doesn't love the Hawks, they are the NBA team.
Wait wait wait, are we gonna forget that Trae got injured in the 2021 ECF ??
If Trae did get traded, maybe the Raptors would take him. I mean, he'd more than likely be in the same situation as he is right now with the Hawks. But maybe he'd stay there for a year or two and then get traded to a real contender.
Trae has made progress as a defender, he’ll never be good but to say he is the absolute worst defender just shows who really watches him play
Still believe the video game guys have a sports channel
The organization failed Trae more than he failed them. Did a bad job building around him. That DeAndre Hunter pick was the one they really missed on.
We can't even win with D Fox and he's lightyears ahead of Trae defensively and deserved all star over Trae.
...I could be a gm because it took me literally 30 seconds to see this was a bad fit for an underwhelming player with zero intangibles.
The Hawks need to Start! And why not Now, everybody Should be healthy when the league starts back up.
Trae young on the magic doesn’t have to be the best player and there’s more than enough defense to protect him
I’d honestly love to see the magic try and make a trade like that. They have a decent core now
if im trading trae im trading murray too theirs no point in keeping both
Memphis has been up there with the Hawks off of pure disappointment
We are not getting rid of trea young or Murrey.
Trae actually has been better defensively this season
Outside of Jalen Johnson emerging that team is so inconsistent it hurts and I'm not even a fan of them. Take Trae off this team and they are in a different kind of hell
Better than the worst defender in the league is still awful. He’s just bad on that end. About the best you can hope for with Young is that he doesn’t give back *all* the points he scores on the other end.
@@EonArashi He has a better defensive rating than Dejounte
@@nothachimanhikigaya9921 Yeah people underestimate how valuable having someone like Trae is. ECF appearance to me says that he can win it all
@@j09mlop defensive rating is a team statistic.
Yes because their point guard is a defensive liability big time.. just not worth It.. and he is small as hell and weak
I’m just dejected either trae somewhere he can ball out and do his thing or some fun trae, jj, oo hoops one or the other but this middle ground HURTS
This video should be retitled “out of pocket takes by people who don’t watch, let alone care about, the hawks”
At least we have the Braves. All our other teams suck.
I think it’s time to blow it up. They are not bad, but they aren’t good either. The worst place to be. So if they are not good enough to contend. Get younger and get your best players on contenders. They don’t have crazy contracts so it will be an easier situation to handle
As a hawks fans everyone can go except Trae and Jalen Johnson.
why they always so dominant in 2K tho? Atlanta always winning 60 games in my league lol
Ima need a wolves vid
Trey Young is a really good player and an obvious star, but I feel like he's just not the kind of player who can really carry it. He can be the number one star but he needs a Pippen, or, he can be Pippen, but Atlanta needs a Jordan.
We can't ignore the fact that the hawks front office suck and have not given him an all star to play with, DJ don't qualify
hot take: trae is probably the best defensive player on the hawks rn 😭
I love yall
they can always move to Winnipeg
Please update your opinion’s on Trae’s defense. He still isn’t a “good” defender but he isn’t the worst starting defender and definitely isn’t worse than dame. Just look up the defensive metrics 👍🏽
No Timberwolves vid for 2 months 🥱
So Ben Simmons ruined THREE teams.
Legendary.
Clearly, you don’t watch Atlanta Hawks basketball, because Trae Young is actually really improved on his defense this year
Improved but still a below average defender. I will admit his effort is better but it is not impactful because of his size.
@@gregsanchez3068 well pretty much every guard 6’3 and below is a liability
They wasted they draft picks from last season
You guys didn't mentioned one of the best sixth players in the league, Bogi. Guy have some value...
Trae Young is not the worst starting defender in the league
Trae young is complete ass on defense
@@ryanb9305 He’s been slightly below average this year. Watch basketball, and stop going off reputations.
@@C6LD Question do you just spew BS expecting people to believe you? Trae Young statistically this season is the 2nd worst defender in terms of defensive rating only behind Jordan Clarkson. 😂 that back fired on you quick
@@C6LD Like I originally said trae young is ass on defense. I would never want him on my team if we are trying to compete for a championship.
I feel really really bad for Trae Young. The Atlanta Hawks is wasting his talent
Who TF is running the Hawks... i think it's time to sell the team
Hawks need to give Millie Bobby brown season tickets to save thier season
Why? Still doesn't mean that they will get it right.
