      I've never been a stepparent. My husband and I have 2 children . Was your son feeling jealous of the relationship your husband had with his children that weren't living with y'all? Does your husband spend alone time (without the children that live with y'all) with his two boys?

    It’s not the responsibility of children to “understand” the parents problems and hurt feelings. It is the responsibility of the parents to be mindful of how their children are affected by being treated “differently”. Parents need to be mindful of their own behavior!

    In a marriage where you've got a spouse who accepts your kids as their own the spouse needs to come first. A secure marriage with two loving parents creates security for the kids. Whatever is hurting the kids should be addressed as a team. Again provided one was wise enough to choose a spouse who embraces the kids as their own.

    My parents divorced when i was an adult. I couldn’t care less who they have moved onto. Do what makes you happy as long as there is respect. My father’s wife missed that memo and is very disrespectful. Not just to my sister and I but to other family members. That is a “no go” in my book. There is a strain in my relationship with my father, my sister and I. I’m still present and willing... but he ignores the issue as if it will go away. There’s zero relationship with his wife which is very obvious at family gatherings. So, as an adult of divorced parents, i could care less on my parents moving on... it’s their life. There just has to be a level of respect. You don’t have to treat me like a queen but you damn sure won’t treat me like trash.

  • @DarlaReborn
    @DarlaReborn 6 років тому +231

    I want to challenge the notion that kids are "making" the father feel guilty. The father feels guilt as a result of what he knows he did that caused harm. The kids have emotions, and the "get over it, it's a new day" is insensitive and unproductive. What kids, particularly adult children, as in Steve and Marjorie's situation, need is a direct apology. Don't justify, excuse, or attempt to discount or diminish from their experience. Just as the parents' situation is their own, the children's feelings and experience are their own. Acknowledge their pain and your choices that led to them feeling abandoned, and make conscious, measurable plans to make it better. I know we all want to move on, but so often, the kids end up being left behind. It's time that this dynamic changes. You won't adequately move forward until you've acknowledged what is broken, and this can be done in age appropriate ways.

      @@chukwuemekaogbu8037 In this case, Steve wasn't always there for his daughters. In order to pursue his dreams, he left his wife and the kids and actually wasn't there for them, the reason one of his twins went into depression. I am not judging Steve for making his life decisions but you need to take your kids along in the new journey you want to take. It has to be both ways.

    I can agree with some points of this conversation. But as a child that had a stepmother, I always felt less then when it came to me coming to my dad's house and visiting my other sibs. When I did come and visit, my dad was never around so I really clung on to my older sister and built a strong relationship with her. There's also a sense of awkwardness as well, because although that's family I honestly don't know this side of family, I don't know how to act or move around them as opposed to it just being me and my mother. Another point Majorie said is that you can't dwell on the fact that your parent wasn't there in the past which I agree to an extent. Yes at a point in your life you have to not blame or hold the fact that a parent was there for you, but when you reach a certain age, those past experiences with that parent has shaped your view of that person and you hold every right to want to forge a relationship or not.

      People need to learn to live their own lives, and stop trying to control someone else's. Parents have to learn to forgive their children for their mistakes, and children have to learn how to forgive their parent's for theirs. That is why it is so much division and confusion in the family. Because people hold onto unforgiveness and bitterness. More then they hold onto that person, and the love they have for them. Certain mindsets literally kill everything and everyone they come in contact with. We need to heal our minds.

    Have to disagree with Marjorie... a father’s absence from a little girl’s childhood can be life damaging. It’s not about staying bitter about the fact that he wasn’t there while you were growing up. It’s the fact that the first man to break your heart should never be your father and that’s sometimes hard to forgive and move forward from. Just because he suddenly turns up when you’re an adult ready to play daddy doesn’t mean he has the right to. Some fathers want to skip all the hard stuff and just enjoy the easy years when the daughter is all grown up and he’s finally prepared to be there like it’s a choice or an option to dip in and out when it suits him and not a lifelong commitment and obligation of fatherhood.

    • @bfeditingchannel1410
      @bfeditingchannel1410 2 роки тому

      I agree I’m glad there are some people that use their brain and have common sense. I can honestly say when my dad was out of my life as a child it was damaging. He did apologize when I was grown but I used to have dad issues and would choose the wrong partners. It’s crazy for marjury to say that about his daughters when they are his first born. He wasn’t there in their lives when they were kids but he’s there when they’re grown.

    I like Steve’s approach 🤣🤣🤣 I’m newly married and my stepson expressed to me his confusion and how he wish his dad never moved out from with his mom😩 I understood but it made me drop tears and my feelings were a little hurt but I definitely get it. He’ll get over it in due time I guess

    • @paulettepoole5476

      I understand your step son feels hurt but don't let his hurt sabotage your feelings about your marriage. Build your relationship with that son and show him motherly love. Your husband and you are married now. Build your home on love and the principles of a good marriage. Get some books or videos to help you and your family grow. Let that son know that you are sorry he feel that way and you can support him as his bonus mom, but you all as a family need to move forward with you'll new life together. You and his mom can have a respect for each other and keep things open as for what the son needs. But don't let no child or children run your home.
      Build your home on love, trust, and respect. And keep wisdom and understanding at the table.
      Make sure you build you first as a strong woman. You are the woman of your home.
      Also don't sink into marriage and lose yourself. You only get ONE life here in earth. Make yourself happy and keep yourself up.

    The fact that Majorie doesn't believe that Steve needs to apologize to his kids or acknowledge their pain is very telling. She is definitely a wolf in sheep's clothing. It is all an act. Nothing about this woman is genuine.
    I do however agree with Tiny. If my child is uncomfortable and I also notice then it's time to address the issue. My child's happiness is just as important as my step kids.

I must say as a single parent I only want the best for him, unfortunately he didn't want the same for me , he tried every way to destroy and break me but god kept me ready for war, I didn't kno why I was fighting . I listen to Steve every morning ,and he is not perfect but he make me look at life with a understanding on people prayer works and keep up the awsome work..

    Steve Harvey has helped so much and so good of him to have Marjorie with class answer this. Tiny said something very relevant about her children coming first. This is very true with younger children if you find yourself in this situation. When the children are adults, as Steve's & Marjorie's were well... The discussion to address their feelings within his absence at younger ages was necessary. Marjorie taught me something as well in answering the question in the audience on stepchildren teasing. So classy of her to keep her cool and continue to be consistent with love which sometimes is hard if your stepchildren treat you unkind. They do come around but if you go ballistic on them, & show no composure, it can turn your new spouse off. Classy of her to know & give that advice& harder to do, the younger the children are. Steve blessed for Marjorie cuz oh lawd his response...(i dont like yo mama no more😂...he's too much)
