The all-new Vapor Hyperlite 2 skate line is built for ultimate quickness and agility. Vapor skates feature stiffer and more supportive material in the upper portion of the skate, and increased flex and responsiveness in the lower part of the boot. A couple of big upgrades Bauer put into the X5 Pro include the Powerfly Holder, choose your steel, injected facing, and a Pro Stock tongue.
When purchasing a new pair of hockey skates, it is important to focus on fit. If you’re unsure which skate line or model fits your foot best, use our sizing guide below or for the most accurate measurement and assessment, visit your local Pure Hockey to be scanned on a Bauer 3D scanner.
This year Bauer has pushed performance to another level with the introduction of the Powerfly Holder, increasing players’ takeoff acceleration and side-to-side transitions through the various flex points. The front post of the holder is rigid, increasing energy transfer in every stride for faster acceleration. The hyperbolic stability bar increases balance for quicker transitions, and the responsive back post promotes faster side-to-side transitions.
The blade channel is also modified to incorporate hyperbolic geometry, improving the integration of the steel and holder, and lowering the stress on the trigger during impacts. With the new hyperbolic geometry comes the new FLY-X steel, the direct replacement to the Pulse Steel, and the titanium-coded FLY-TI, the direct replacement to the PULSE-TI. The new steel types are compatible with both the new Powerfly holder and the Lightspeed Edge holder. The Junior Skate will come with the Fly-X steel. It is important to note that the previous generation Lightspeed Edge steel is not compatible with the new Powerfly holder.
The Bauer Vapor X5 Pro has a 3D lasted Curv Composite Quarter package which provides elite level support while keeping the skate very lightweight. The outsole is made of Digi Comp, which allows the skate to maintain its lower flex point for optimal quickness and agility.
Elevating the X5 Pro is the integrated injected facing which provides lateral stability and improves the lock of the foot to the skate and allows proper forward flex. For interior comfort, the X5 Pro uses AeroFoam+ padding with a Hydrolite liner which provides good support, a soft feel, and moisture-management properties to help wick sweat away and keep your foot secured in the boot.
The Pro Stock 48oz tongue will give you the protection you need and prevent lace bite, while the Lock-Fit footbed will provide optimal comfort from a top-end skate.
The Bauer Vapor X5 Pro skate is an excellent option for players who skate 3-4 times a week and are looking for elite features in a high-performing skate all at a great value. Although this skate is recommended for Elite and Performance skaters, any player at any level can upgrade from a lower model.

Both are great skates! The X5 Pro has a couple of upgrades; Includes the new Powerfly Holders, you can choose your steel between the FLY-TI or FLY-X, and a Digi Comp outsole. The 3X Pro are currently on sale, so depending on your budget, that could be a good option!

My review, good skate but cosmetically it will get dinged real fast. The plastic on the toe box is cheap (X3 is worse I think). My left inner foot bone kills me in these. I heat molded them but the padding is not sufficient or maybe I'm missing something ? I bought these without steel blades included is that common ? The old Bauer X were way stiffer. This skate boot is medium stiff imo. Overall the vapor line feels like it has more volume and width than previuous generations...

Bauer did start selling skates with the option to choose your steel on certain models, so if you didn't select any, then they would come without any. Thank you for the feedback on the skates!

Any info on the different eyelets?

These eyelets have a similar look to the Vapor 3X Pro but to give the X5 Pro more durability, Bauer reinforced the top eyelets.

How would you compare them to hyperlite 1s?

    • @purehockey

The X5 Pro and HyperLite are similar skates, with the HyperLite having a few upgrades. The HyperLite is made with Cabon Curv Composite and has a HyperFlex outsole for maximum energy transfer and a stiffer boot. The liner and tongue will also differ. The X5 Pro does have the new holder, which is a nice upgrade. Both are great skates, so not a bad option depending on what your budget is.
