2020 and I STILL get chills everytime I hear this. Reminds me of a time when shows were epic, and the theme song were just as epic as the shows they were associated with.
Yes. My hair stands on end every time I listen to this. The signature tune is majestic and amazing in itself. Then to listen to it being masterfully reinterpreted by a philharmonic orchestra adds to the drama 10-fold for me. Love it.
I always liked the Dallas theme song. I visited Dallas 5 times, the City of Dallas has it all together, a great DART rail system of he Red,Blue,Green & Orange Lines which the Orange line goes to DFW Airport. The Red & Blue Lines serve Union Station which is a beautiful white brick building and is a short walk to Reunion tower, the 6th.floor museum which I visited on 12/27/2010 when I spent Christmas with my youngest son who lived in Dallas at that time and also visited the South Fork ranch home in Parker as well.
This theme music reminds me what a great era television was in the 80's. This would have to rate as the best theme music ever. The moment it begins you know straight away its Dallas. Some programs today could learn a thing or two from this.
I agree! The 80's was THE GOLDEN AGE of TELEVISION! DYNASTY, DALLAS, KNOTS LANDING, MASH, MACGYVER, MAGNUM PI, FALCON CREST, ECT, ECT... Today, all we have is SHIT!!!!
A great TV theme. The simple melody is perfectly complemented by the more complex yet subtle sub-melodies. Great percussion and wonderful brass. The theme has clear lineage to the those of the great Western Movies of yesteryear. I could listen to this all day.
Best TV theme ever and this is the best playing of it, i have never heard better. Of course it makes me think of those nights in Ireland when we couldn't wait until Fri night next week, my Mother and us kids alike. Larry was the star, no two ways about it, without JR the excitement would not have been there. Ken Kercheval and Larry were fantastic as arch enemies. When Bobby showed up in the shower?? whose idea was that??? Who shot JR held the world in suspense. Larry Hagman rest in peace, Southfork Ranch, Ewing Oil, Ewing 6 field, Ewing 1 licence plates, Barbara Bel Geddes soft voice (named my daughter Miss Ellie) what a show. What a cast, what an escape from Rainy Ireland once a week to The Ewing Barbeque or The Oil Baron's Ball where Sue Ellen would make a scene drunk or JR would get into a fight. Anyway, Larry was the King of 80's tv.
"Well let me tell you something, boy. If you think I gave you power, then you've got nothing! Nobody gave you power. Real power is something you TAKE!"
Excelente versión, todo el recuerdo de mi niñez y de muchos que ahora ya pasamos los 40s. Bendiciones a todos y a seguir emocionándonos con esas hermosas series.
i never saw the series, but i always watch the intro because of the music if i ever build a grand theater, every invited symphony will be required to play this as an encore
I've always felt that after the show became off the walls huge that CBS or Lorimar, whoever paid for the original theme song should have had a much more powerful remake done like this. This cover absolutely nails it. Seeing this being recorded live must have been exhilarating to experience.
I was 7 years old when Dallas came on and watched every single episode of Dallas from 1978 until the very last episode in 1991 from the age of 7 until the age of 20
Absolutely awesome! This coming from a fan of my all time favorite TV show, in which I have seen all of the episodes, both form the original series, as well as the remake which was brilliantly done.
Thank you. This was one of my mum’s FAVOURITE shows! ❤😀 I ❤ the theme tune! I’m DANCING around, wearing my COWGIRL HAT and BOOTS, whilst BAKING!! WAIT! I SEE a RUDE MEAN CRUDE DUDE coming to STEAL my HORSE SHAPED cookies! I DON’T THINK SO, BUSTER! OUT COMES my PINK SPARKLY LASSO! He’s going to be TIED to this DISCO BALL and HAVE NOWHERE TO GO! 😂
I loved this songs of Dallas old sesaon and new sesaon of Dallas bobby Ewing Ann Ewing Sue Ellen Ewing John Ross Ewing Christopher Ewing and beloved JR Ewing he is great dad too John Ross Ewing
Actually played this in my truck when I rolled onto Dallas! First thing i saw after parking was two kids (wallet jacking) being told to drop down to the ground by DPD.
Jerrold Immel is truly an amazing composer. I love the "Knott's Landing: theme, too. "Gunsmoke" and its title music is also iconic. I wish I knew where I could find all his compositions on CD? Anyone know if there are some orchestral long-extended versions?
I love Dallas very much. It is my home. I have to get plane tickets before grandma passes. Unfortunately the 180 acres of ranch and grassfeed Angus cattle. My aunt and uncle get the other half of land (dry creekbed as dividing line). My parents have been shelling out7k a month for over a year. Dad had to drive to Houston to get hay for the cattle. My grandma is too wimpy to change her will. They get half the cattle my dad has maintained. He would have made tons more money programming machines for deep oil well digs. My aunt Kaye is too busy working at the bank or touring to Nashville in her glamourbus on the weekends. Sorry so long but so much history tied into oil. Edit: aunt and uncle don't have oil wells. We do. That is why you need heli's to manage your stripper wells. People like Ross Perot illegally sideways drill and take it. He is well known in the oil industry for doing that. Come make a show of our lives full of action. Rip uncle Otto hello pilot cannot land in our front pasture anymore.

@TVHouseHistoyoure hair stands now end? Maybe it's static electricity.
Shows are still epic as well as themes. You just fail to see it because you are stuck in 1979...😂

The power. The emotion. The nostalgia. THIS is everything a TV theme should be.

A different version was playing on the radio when I saw the skyline of Dallas the first time.

I'm right there with you. French horns give any score such nice drama and emotion.

Chills and goosebumbs.. This still has awsome written all over it.. A true timeless classic.. As fresh and relevant as day one.

Here in the Philadelphia area, we have a chain of gas stations called Liberty. They are owned by Ewing Oil Corp. of Hagerstown, Maryland!
@@OldsVistaCruiser HA! Philly really does wish it was Dallas. Knew it.
@Ashley Meggan - Hagerstown, MD is closer to West Virginia than Philadelphia!
Best DALLAS recording I have ever herd, what orchestra is this, must be the Dallas Orchestra, correct me if I'm wrong.

Happy 40th anniversary DALLAS.
Golden age of tv... not reality crap like today
The most iconic TV theme ever though I am partial to the themes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Knots Landing.
Having lived in the D/FW area, I got to see most of these locations in the show. Including the Southfork Ranch near Lucas in N. E. Dallas.
Southfork is in WYLIE, in Collin county
I thought south fork was down around pecos out by the old allsups convenience store
@@danielmoore8538 The show used at least two different ranches for the show. The infamous Southfork is just outside of Plano in Parker.
Love this tv show when it was on tv
This should have been used for the reboot!!!! it almost has a "John Williams" feel to it, even though it was written by Jerrold Immol!!!!
I didn't make the connection until I read your comment - and you're right!

The petrocene anthem!
This is a lovely version, but the first statement of the melody should be played by trumpets, not strings. The pieces loses something because of that.
