Stories like this make me glad that my childhood friend asked me out directly when she realized that she had feelings for me. No drama, no fuss -- even if the way she asked me out was a little comical (she grabbed my shirt, started shaking me with all her might, and yelled at me for not pickup up on any of the hints she was dropping). We started dating when we were 15 years old an are together to this day, over 30 years later. I'm glad that these two lovebirds got together, but they missed out on spending some of the absolute best times of their lives together. My wife and I have so many great memories together from high school and college; it's part of the connection that binds us together so strongly.

If I was in an interview like that I would feel way to guilty to accept, and would walk out like he did. I know she wasn’t honest with her feelings, but those questions and trying to trick him. And he even asked if she liked him and got a firm ‘NO’ from her. And implying she’s doing it because she feels sorry for him. Myself I would have kept walking even if she chased after me.
Mad respect for Kakeru in willing not to suck up to Alice. He wanted to be with her for her alone, not for her money. IRL successful women like Alice end up losing respect for their husbands because they become too dependent on them. If Kakeru can avoid this by attaining his own success, then it's possible that Alice will continue to respect him.

I mean she's the one who said that she doesn't have feelings for him and that she's just helping out a friend, and he didn't do anything to warrant such help, so he's completely in the right here. If anything, he's a responsible adult and if I saw this as an employer, this would favor him greatly in the employment process. Clearly greed or lust is not controlling him since he didn't sign the papers instantly, and he's being responsible, so I could trust him in a workplace.

I think Alice should have started out catching up with him. Ask him how he is doing, does he have a girlfriend and so on. Would be less awkward than at a job interview. She could have also during the interview say she needed a 24/7 assistant and so he would need to move in with her. While they are living together she could point out the benefits of being married with their arrangement but be honest with her feelings at that point.
