The incredible thing is that this is all in bounds skiing, you won't find anything else like that in the east. I'm going for the first time next week, it as not going to be a powder day but I expect a great day anyway.
Where is that feature at 2:25? I've been through all the woods on the mountain and never seen it. Is that some crazy part of upper octo that I've never had the guts to drop? Or is it just like along the side of ice palace? I've dropped 2:55 I know that's on octo but I can't figure out where 2:25 is.
Wow. Great video. I was there for a few days in March, 2014. Such a great place to ski. Just remember boarders are not welcome. To it's merit it is a "ski area",not a "resort"
Donovan Shea Big oof. Bigger oof: they took the privilege of snowboarding away after being one of the earliest places to grant it because of issues with the single chairlift, not because they hated the attitude and crunchiness boarders brought to the mountain back in the day. You were banned for chairlift maintainment, not even for cool reasons, that must suck.
How in the hell do you guys hop over a Pine Street right into a blind not even knowing what's on the other side you guys are sick or you have a death wish whatever the case is you got great videos Man
So, how often is the snow that good st Mad River? I see that they only have a 12-18" base in mid February, even after I see all the blizzards going through the east..
Theres no easy way to tell how often its like that, its different week to week, and don't trust the snow reports from out here... I'd say Mad River currently has a little over 2 feet of base at the very bottom with 4 feet of base at the top, its currently super filled in. Its rare to have fresh snow like in the video, but as long as it stays cold, the snow can stay really for a while, which is what its been like for the past month. The east always gets a few rain storms and warm ups throughout the season, but I'd say the conditions get like they are in the video a couple times in February and March each. Again, fresh tracks won't stay for long but the snow still stays good for a few weeks out of the late season.
Looks like a cool place to ski. If I ever got out there I would want to hit Mad River, Sugarbush, Stowe, Smuglers and Jay pk, but living out west, it's hard to justify.
There was a mogul run under a chair lift & about 3/4 of the way down I was crushing it & something got out of timing. When I crashed I left a crater in the ground. The town still hasn’t recovered from that. Talk about a yard sale. Both of my Gloves came off 😂
I just wish they'd allow snowboarding, I live in stowe Vermont and rude trees on my board but they won't allow boards. Seems like tge best pow day destination in the east to me. It's got that allure to it.
well I have been skiing Mad River Glen my whole life that the woods in Mad River Glen are cut between trails. I have learned so much about Mad River Glen such as secret trails and yet there are still more trail out there. diffidently recommend going there! :)
Best thing about mad river, and there are many great things, is that the whole place is skiable. That said...I don't want to give too much away but...be careful if you end up on a track that warns of cliffs ahead in your snooping.
three cliffs ... when i go there i go around to the right and do the small one. my friend does what the guy in this video does... omfg . If you go out there you run into several places where jumping off a cliff is mandatory so watch out.. If theres a ton of snow though, GO FOR IT
Well, I see a pair of Armada JJs and a pair of Faction Chapters (or something like that), so around 116 (give or take a few mm's for changes in the year model). And powder is powder, whether you're at Mad or in Jackson; a fat ski doesn't behave differently east of the Mississippi.
can't go there because of a very specific ban. so as long as this stupid ban involving Burton going against mad river glen and 2 other mountains, i will NOT go there.
For 16-19” it sounds pretty dust on crusty. But that mountain looks great! Great skiers too. As someone who skis and rides, their exclusive, anti-snowboarding policy is ridiculous.
16 - 19 is awesome anywhere. It’s just doesn’t seem like that much snow since they are hitting bottom. But they said it’s a storm total so maybe it was getting pummeled each day. Also it’s blower, so maybe the storm got colder. A nice right side up storm. I grew up skiing back east but have now lived out west for a long time now. I will say that some of the best skiers I know are from the east.
Also, FWIW, I’d be happy living and skiing in upstate NY, VT, NH or Maine any time! I grew up in NY, lived in Colorado, Idaho (Tetons) and Washington. They are all great. And besides, skiing is like sex. Even when it’s bad, it’s pretty good. I cannot recall ever having a bad day in the mountains.
No, a lot of the trails are narrow to keep the natural snow, etc. Snowboarding just scrapes and pushes the snow. Since they don't groom many of the trails it would be a shit show. Still have the single chair, limits the people on the trails. The last of an era, snowboard elsewhere...
The biggest difference between skiers and snowboarders, is that snowboarders share the lift with everyone. My snow is your snow, but apparently Mad River disagrees. Grow up and grow beyond your silly segregation.
when i boarded i would completely agree with you because boarders ride in groups but i switched to skiing and realised that it is more enjoyable if your alone, nobody watching you and i wouldnt want a group of people, regardless of what they use, behind or infront of me. although i do think mad river should open up to snowboarders, they should keep some trails closed off to boarders because they are impossible for boards to navigate through
The difference is snowboarding was second, and came after most of today's resorts were already established. Given the opportunity, some person somewhere would open a resort that restricts skiing. Mad River's archaic policy doesn't reflect a fundamental difference in general character between skiers and snowboarders.
always come back 2 this banger
I saw the best skiers I’ve ever seen in my life right there.
ski it if you can!
East coast tree skiing takes way more skill than all that wide ope stuff out west. Props to the skiers.
The incredible thing is that this is all in bounds skiing, you won't find anything else like that in the east.
I'm going for the first time next week, it as not going to be a powder day but I expect a great day anyway.
This video always gets me so stoked for upcoming mad river season. These guys know how to rip. Love it.
Mad River Glen best skiing place ever. Woods skiing for the win. The best trail there is Paradise
for sure
Bob Carder I wish u could go! The powder looks so nice, its a shame in a boarder
Octopus garden is a ton better
There's no way I would attempt that. I have been on a few double diamond runs, but I don't want to end up in the ICU.
Is it better than the paradise woods at sugarbush?
Mad River is easily one of the best places to hone your tree skiing. On a powder day like the one in the vid. It's like floating on clouds!!!
I fell down in the woods 25 feet away from the slope & I thought I was gonna die trying to get out.
Solid form. Keep it up you devils.
"It's zero dark thirty and looking sick" Dude, on a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being not so extreme and 10 being extremely extreme, I give this a 9.5!
This fired me up
Hell yeah 🤘
Sick skiing !
Oh yeah!
Nice edit and makes me want to ski Mad River.
These guys are the greatest skiers in the Country. Hopefully they're still at it 5-6 years later.
My favorite place on planet Earth
This makes me want to ski soooo bad (even if I absolutely suck at woods skiing)

Nice! 👍

Good eye

Rocking It
If you can't ski waterfall material , stay away from Mad River Glen ! By far the best place I've ever skied !
Is this Paradise?

Some of the larger moguls, no grooming on that trail.
Go ski❤

Are these trails marked or off piste. If they are off piste how does someone find them
Karl_Productions go snoopin

What trail with the double cliff is at 2:28-2:30
It's off the left of paradise. Really fun
Octo it’s one of the famous “three cliffs”
three cliffs ... when i go there i go around to the right and do the small one. my friend does what the guy in this video does... omfg . If you go out there you run into several places where jumping off a cliff is mandatory so watch out.. If theres a ton of snow though, GO FOR IT
what width skis do these guy typically run for this stuff
around 110 underfoot probably
oh thanks
Christian Roche anytime, that's kinda just a guess though
ya i asumed it was around there but i have never been out east so i didnt know for shure

Skrew mad riverglen, they dont let snowboarders in

Cascadian505 you sound like a pretty basic western skier. 16-19 is one of the best powder days of the year over here.

shut the fuck up about your segregation you fucking idiot rat. It is their mountain and dont want subhuman snowboarders there
Calc Skiers and snowboarders can agree that this guy sucks ^
No i don't
