    Thank you for the detailed instructions. I had looked at tutorials and couldn't figure out why my new switches wouldn't show up and then your video pointed out the firmware version requirement. I was only on 8.4.0 on my new Athom switches. I upgraded them and they showed up immediately.

    Thanks for mentioning the Tasmota firmware version 9.2 or higher, most other guides skip mentioning this. It led me in the right direction when working with some Costco Feit Electric BPA800/RGBW/AG/2P lights (flashed with TuyaConvert).
    A few notes:
    1. The lights reported "Tasmota 9.2.0 by Theo Arends" however, on closer inspection under information, it was this firmware type "9.2.0(lite)" which might have been part of my problem. I used the included "Firmware Upgrade" option and was taken to "Tasmota 11.0.0 by Theo Arends" (normal version, not light this time).
    2. It just worked after the upgrade and command:
    SetOption19 on
    or
    SetOption19 1
    3. I'm guessing it changed at some point from 0/off for that option to 1/on to get the desired behavior.
    4. Before the upgrade I could see the MQTT messages when subscribing to topic # for status and other items, however, there were no posts to the tasmota/discovery topic, which is why it was not working for me.
    Hopefully it helps someone. Thanks for the detailed explanation.

    Smashed the like for you :).
    Tasmota is definitely one of the best Firmwares for ESP8266 / ESP32 based devices.
    ESPHome would be very close with it. I tend to use Tasmota for off the shelf switches and the like, and ESPHome for home made/maker devices.

    • @KPeyanski
      @KPeyanski  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Brendan. Glad we have you here. Yes, ESPHome is also very good, but it is part of Home Assistant now and I'm not sure how to count it ;)

    • @EsotericArctos
      @EsotericArctos 3 роки тому +1

      @@KPeyanski I think ESPHome still has a stand alone project. Tasmota is becoming more integrated in Home Assistant also lately.
      It seems a lot of projects want to be part of Home Assistant :)

    • @KPeyanski
      @KPeyanski  3 роки тому +1

      Indeed and now with the latest HA release it will be clearly visible how many installations are out there. Which will lead to more and more vendors that will want to integrate with HA in a best possible way!

    • @EsotericArctos
      @EsotericArctos 3 роки тому +1

      @@KPeyanski Home Assistant is better than a lot of commercial offerings that's for sure. Homeseer is awful. HA is even better than SmartThings in many ways, even more so since the SmartThings hardware has now been taken over by Aeotec.

    • @KPeyanski
      @KPeyanski  3 роки тому +1

      Totally agree, I'm somehow disappointed with ST and their list of supported devices. It is tiny compared to HA.

    Good thing to know, what wasn't clear for me, is which user/pass you should use in the MQTT config on the Tasmota device. Turns out, you can use a local user defined in you HA settings, could be your own login, I choice to create a new one that I will only use as MQTT authentication. :)

    The mosquitto options no longer take a complete configuration like this. The new UI wants the login, require client certificate, file locations and so on separate.
    To set up your login enter the username and pass like this
    - username: SMASH
    password: THELIKE
    I noticed it does not take a numbers only password so keep that in mind
