I saw it firsthand growing up. Imagine being born to two light-skinned parents, only to come out brown or dark-skinned-while all your siblings, except for one brother, are also light-skinned. That was my experience. Both my parents and sisters are light-skinned, and as an adolescent, I noticed the special treatment my sister received whenever we entered a room. At first, I thought it was just because she was a girl, but as I got older, I realized that wasn’t the case. She would get all the eyes and positive attention, every time. People’s faces lit up when she walked in, and their voices always rose an octave or two around her. But for me? It was different. Scolding, indifference, and mid-level treatment were the norm. I could go on and on, but your video is spot on-this is the brutal reality of lookism.
