RICO is Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act. Formed in the 70s in the US. It was influential within law enforcement in bringing down members of the mafia and the like. Love your channel

Westlaw and LexisNexis are online legal research sites that you have to buy a subscription to and there are different packages for what you can access. It's very expensive. I am lucky I don't have to pay for my own. Now there are more choices, but I think back then there were pretty much only those two.

I love this moment, what I consider to be the apex of “Jimmy McGill”

Re: Hydrox- super random thing I learned after another reaction to this episode. Hydrox is actually the original, Oreo is the "knock-off". Most of us familiar with Hydrox always assumed the opposite.

Hydrox are still sold too. I just had a pack a few weeks ago.

"Esquire" is just a title that lawyers use after their names in the U.S. It's used in different ways in other countries though.

I don't know how "official", wide ranging or even well-defined it really is, though. When I worked in the mailroom of a company that, by nature of its business, had a pretty significant legal department, Junk mail would come addressed to every executive with an "esq" or even full "Esquire" appended to the end of their names. Many of these executives were, indeed, lawyers, most were not, but it seemed to be more than anything a bit of flattery to suggest that the person in question is someone of power, influence & significance.

@@briangonigal3974 Yeah, it's kind of informal. Some lawyers use it, some don't. And sometimes it's used just as a term of respect for "official"-type people.

I love this part of the show. Not exactly sure why. Maybe coz it's the psychology of Jimmy. Idk. And it looks like you're really enjoying too.

Great reaction and analysis Krissy 😊
I am not 100percent sure because my background was in Healthcare and not the Law.. however I believe and this is similar to FBI jurisdiction crossing State lines on any offenses criminal or civil is subject to Federal Laws not just Individual State Laws.
So in this case the Sandpiper Assistant Living Facility that Jimmy obtained the docs from is in the State of New Mexico and they over billed Jimmy's client for Medical supplies purchased in another state.
By doing this Sandpiper' action is now considered Federal crime.
a/k/a RICO= Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizational Act.
Remember the other attorney stated Sandpiper has 12 locations whichvus why Chuck upped the amount to 20 million.
This Series is so awesome it's a slow burn...
Mike went to the Vet to get "side"😉 work so he could help his daughter in law and granddaughter out financially.
    Enjoy❤

What's probably important to note is that, from the perspective of someone in a country England, the US legal system is set up very differently: each individual state has their own full set of laws, procedures and court systems (almost like 50 seperate countries rather than the single justice system for the entirety of England) and for the vast majority of crimes it's the state that charges someone with murder, fraud, or theft etc. according to the rules & guidelines set down in each individual state. For the Federal courts to get involved, a crime has to either be a matter of National Security, involve a federal institution like happen on an Army Base, National Park, or other entity run by the federal government, or be wide-ranging enough so that it has elements that occur in two or more states. RICO is federal law that enables any crime that features any sort of inter-state commerce at all (as simple as mailing a package from one state to another) to qualify as a Federal Crime, means it can be tried in Federal Court, which is way more intimidating & scary (and expensive) than any state court.
