I must say Keith and Northlight Images are an invaluable source of info… Happy printing, there’s nothing like seeing and handling your images on paper… 👍

Great video Ralph found that very interesting, I have tried printing myself and have come across it being darker but now I hope can overcome any problems. Thanks for that info. 👍👌👏

Glad you enjoyed it John. I have been playing wit monitor brightness and I think I have got it about right now (despite what the calibration tool says). More experimentation will be required. Thank you for watching and commenting

Interesting. I too have a Canon printer and they do print ever so slightly darker than what you see on screen. But also remembering that the screen has back lighting, once you print, that lightness goes away. I have to say I really liked that lighter version of your latest picture, that looked stunning!!
I am intrigued by the filling of the tanks in the printer. Sounds pretty cool. Wonderful video as always, very informative and I enjoyed it so thank you Ralph 😁👌

Glad you found it interesting Vicki. Getting the screen brightness right for printing is a bit of a challenge, especially as the print looks different in different lighting, but I think I'm getting there. The advantage of the tank type printer is that it costs less to buy replacement inks as you are only paying for ink and not the cartridge. Thank you for watching and commenting

That was brilliant Ralph. I've learnt that there's nothing more pleasing than printing your own work, and so glad you've used pro luster because that's what i have used to print out my images for this years PAGB awards. I must admit i don't own my own printer as i use my local club cannon printer but it will be interesting to see how things go with your printer

I've always liked having prints done but doing the printing myself is proving to be quite enjoyable. The pro lustre seems like a nice paper so far. Glad you enjoyed the video, Thank you for watching and commenting

Interesting subject Ralph, not for me but have had some of my images printed onto canvas but still interesting to watch. Many thanks for sharing the information and have a great week.

Im very much in a similar situation as you (wanting to print my images for my own enjoyment) and considering buying a printer for that purpose. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the subject. Gave me something to think about

Good topic, I had the Canon PIXMA PRO-200 in mind but you made me think and save money. As it will be for personal use, it is sufficient and seems to be of acceptable quality, the important thing is to see the result of a photo. Thanks
I hope to see more material on printing, I always get tangled up with color spaces and ICC.

Glad you liked the topic. The Pro 200 is a major step up but I'm viewing this one as a learning platform and to see if I really want to get into printing in a bigger way. Thank you for watching and commenting and ther will be some more to come

Another great video, with much to digest. I have a BenQ monitor calibrated to 80lm for RGB and printing and set to 120 for sRGB that I use for emails and social media. The Calibrate Display Pro HL gives amazing results when calibrating the monitor and sends out a reminder to me every 2 weeks! I used to struggle with the dark print syndrome but that cleared up when I switched to the BenQ. Mose computer monitors are set to 120. Thank you for taking us with you on your printing enquiry!

Glad you enjoyed it. I am also using a BenQ and it is calibrated with the Spyder X Pro. Recommended brightness settings at calibration always looked too high to me. I still have much to learn in this printing game. Thank you for watching and commenting

I switched from the Spyder X Pro, finding the Calibrate model more accurate and able to adjust the parameters of the calibration. I find the ambient light and using the shades on the BenQ help too! I have a hard enough time achieving an in focus shot, so printing is something I’ve only topped my toe into!

@@anthonyroberts7987 Interesting that you switched. my BenQ doesn't have the option for the shades but I normally try to block ambient light for editing purposes. Thanks for the info

Those test images you displayed are images from the Datacolor Spyder X Pro Calibration device used to calibrate monitors. I see those images every time I calibrate my monitor. BTW, when I calibrate I always use the calibration settings. I don't mess with that once it's set. I typically get good results when getting prints from the lab. I toyed with the idea of upgrading our Canon. The one we have now does print color but uses the cartridges. I have done some prints but what I've noticed is that the color degrades over time especially the black. Maybe it's due to using cartridge ink? I'm not sure. I do look forward to you experimenting with this and seeing future results. Thanks for sharing!!!

I actually use the Spyder X Pro and didn't notice it was the same test image.. I'll have to pay more attention next time. I definitely find the monitor is too bright with the calibration and it may be that it's something to do with the ambient light in the room. I don't know how well these prints will hold up but it will be interesting to see. Pigment inks last a lot longer than dye but cartridge or tank shouldn't make much difference to longevity as far as I can see. Thank you for watching and commenting and I'm glad you enjoyed it

Εxcellent choice Ralph. Printing your own images, even at small quantities is a great experience. I used to use a lab but the satisfaction I got when I started printing images on my own was huge. I also use the pro luster paper from Canon, it is a great all around paper and I would strongly recommend the high end papers as well as they are a click better than that. Monitor calibration is also the most important aspect. I also prefer to post process for printing with very little light in the room, I have a much better result. Are you using the Canon print software? I have found that this is much better than printing via LR or PS. Happy printing.

Glad you liked it Thanos. I'm enjoying the experience so far. Unfortunately this printer doesn't support the Canon print software on the Mac, only Air Print. (this was one of the reasons I hesitated to get it). I will probably start to try some other paper later when I start to feel I am getting to grips with the basics. Hi Ralph. Thanks for the video. I have a WIFI printer and print a lot of brochures. I find it most annoying that half way through a mega-print and the internet goes down it stops the printer. I often have to reload the software when this happens as the printer refuses to work after an internet outage. Good luck with it. Regards.

That sounds like a pain. I don't seem to be having any problems like that but I'm normally only printing single sheets (or occasionally small documents). Thank you for watching and commenting
