i love how he can talk about the struggle of his relationship, but the fact that just because a bad thing is happening, doesn’t mean you should quit or give up but work and get stronger. i love him and jazzy, and i’m super proud of both of them.

Yo, idk what it is about Zach that makes Anthony tap ALL the way tf in like this but these chats slap every single time, just like that album. My goodness. The level of vulnerability shown here is unmatched; you can tell that this is a man who has been in therapy, who is working on bettering himself as a human in this world, and who is very much tuned into his emotions and how it affects others. I definitely started to get choked up when he talked about I Can’t Get By @42:00. I think there are very few artists out there who are willing to lay it all on the line like that-and even more than that, talk about it publicly in a way that shows the utter humanity in displaying any hint of a rough patch. There’s always this undercurrent of shame in our society when anyone shows anything other than picturesque perfection. And Anthony, maybe without intentionally doing so is speaking to a lot of our realities and giving us permission to lend ourselves to truth above all. Just goes to show that when your heart is pure, your intentions and the emotions that you need to accompany it always shine through. Zach, thank you for bringing this out in your guests - I still replay clips from the last one just to feel that energy of someone finding themselves through your thoughtful facilitation. P.S., that Ben Rector song is just...I don’t even have the words to describe it. He’s just so great. Ben in general reminds me of my favorite artist whenever I listen-Ingrid Michaelson. They are true storytellers. Anthony reminded me so much of myself when he talked about this song. Because I will never shut up about Morning Lullabies (only found on UA-cam now) - not only do you get the story and get transported to that liminal space of storytelling, but the feeling it leaves you with is so visceral that it stays with you forever.
Accidentally clicked on this but wow this man speaks so eloquently and the way he talks about his music is so beautiful. Definitely looking him up!

I just got there. I feel like there are so many people who hear songs like this and assume that the song is a direct reflection on the songwriter’s relationship instead of seeing it for what it is; in this case, it’s a brave songwriter normalizing the rough patches and standstills in long relationships. He’s showing people that it’s okay to accept fault in relationships, as long as you can find a way to move forward.

Wow, I can’t believe Anthony mentioned TKA. I went to elementary school with Louis Sharpe, known by his stage name K7. My husband gave Louis his first chance at freestylin around 1981 when he let him perform at a party my husband was deejaying. Small world. 😄
listen, my friends are in the lin manuel fandom, so anything, whether cameo or starring role, anything one of lin’s fam is in, we’re watching. so we watched anthony in heights, and yes, we sobbed at the start of blackout, cause we knew it was about to hit hard, sobbed all the way til the finale and that last I’m home. god we didn’t expect a full on coaster. I mean, come on, we knew Lin took us on a ride in his original run on stage, but the movie adaptation was just, whew! just did some things to us. then we watched celebrity renovations, we both weren’t into homemaking shows, but, Anthony, nuff said. we’re trying to find time together to watch this new space jam 2 movie, cause he has a song in it. we don’t play!
