I am surprised that Bryant Gumble also dismisses Grace Jones when he says, "I know you've been up all night," suggesting that she's not coherent or consistent. In fact, she seems quite coherent, handling this dismissiveness with grace.
Not sure why they let 'non-artistic' interviewers interview artists. I have seen high-school students interview people better. Most artists are non-conformist by nature. This dude is asking questions as if he's in a board room. She pulled his card on the police are good guys who shoot people analogy. You go Grace.
this guy is so disrespectful towards grace Jones, you should be honored to have had Grace Jones in your show she is a legend. LOVE YOU GRACE JONES FOREVERRRRRR!!
The interviewer seems rude towards Grace Jones. The interviewer is not as intelligent as Grace Jones and therefore he can´t understand what she is saying about her character in the "Vamp" movie. Grace Jones was way before her time and I´m so happy that she is still alive and for her to be as creative now as she was when she was younger. :)
I'm always baffled at people putting women in a box. That is very interesting. She is a gorgeous, powerful Queen. He was trying to minimize her by believing something he doesn't understand. The beauty is she picked up on it. Even at the end when he chauvinistically told her to go get some sleep. Maintaining her Queendom she told him to go to England in the same format he spoked to her. GENIUS!!! I LOVE GRACE
She is a woman of surprises, for such a shock value stage character like Grace Jones, she is a soft spoken, debonair intellect. Do you know how many people, fans would love to take that chair and speak with her, shame of Bryant Gumble for being such an ignoramus.
i think he was just intimidated/extremely attracted to grace and was just trying to do his best to hold it all together and it came out as being fairly uptight and coarse. im sure Grace felt it too, but was full of grace and handled it very well. she's such an everlasting star
I'm sorry, but ever since that slapping incident in 1980, I have seen every interviewer, good and bad, comment on how she is "intimidating" or "scary". I kind of relate to that in a way since in public I look very serious and stern, so people steer away from me. It is kind of insulting in my opinion to tell someone that they are "scary", just because they act and/or look different from the rest. This time and age, I feel as if interviewers would treat her with more respect, and not act as if she is this dangerous wild animal. Cause afterall, like she has said a million times, she's human. Every human has a good and bad side. She speaks only facts and I love it.
Bryant was always such a dork! He just didn't get what Grace & her movie characters were all about. Also, many actors will take up smoking or another habit to get in character - that's so basic. I was surprised she would consent to an interview with someone like him.
ole Bryant Gumbel. He got a little judgemental with her. Even when he leans forward its like an interrogation. She actually did handle it GRACEfuly and gave sensible answers to dumb questions like "Do you have a vulnerable side!!??". Yes , Bryant, she's not a robot. She actually a human being with feelings like everyone else........oh brother.
Watching these hosts in 2020 and I have to say the bar was really low back then. Carson, this guy....it’s hard to believe people thought they were good. Grace Jones on the other hand is always so articulate and multidimensional which is how I know the hosts shortcomings were not societal universals of the era, but rather personal flaws.
I never liked Bryant Dumballs, he comes off as an arrogant prick, ashamed of his own race. Grace knew how to handle him, gracefully! So glad not to run into his pompous ass on the television anymore, although I imagine he's slithering around somewhere. Love Grace though, she's truly a renaissance woman. Reminds me of Dietrich in many ways, especially her timeless beauty
I really don't know who Bryant Gumbel is because this was way before my time. But he is sure acting like a compleat asshole to her! But Grace kept her cool. She seems like such a pleasant person.
I don't like his attitude. she's a very sweet person and he is being so unreasonable. ofcourse she has a vulnerable side, SHE'S A FREAKING HUMAN TOO! Like WTH! That junk makes me so mad!
@Ibeannaful it was a special song done just for the film, i think it was just called " Vamp " it was used in the performance piece sequence...don't think it's ever been released...:(
yuck I hate him I hate his style of interviewing I feel like je wants to break her spirit and make her vulnerable like he is Barbra Walters or something... sorry bro you were just on the today's show chill out and be fun.
Grace would be best interviewed by someone who is a supporter or her music and films. It would have made for much better interview on the side of the interviewer.
He really is just taken back by her, in a way that he views her as something foreign. I can't believe he got away with that rudeness. She's Eccentric, but not a creep. Well joke is on him, grace jones is known. He isn't
BRYANT----This is his high tool era....His self-hate/discomfort shows up more in these types of interviews.....Art & entertainment has NEVER been his area, Joan Pauley should have had this interview.....He comes off sexist, elitist, cluesless--Joan Rivers' interviews w/ Grace were much more informative because Joan did her homework and didn't rely on rumors and conservative American stereotypes.....
Wow, what a prick. And I could tell she wasn't comfortable because Ive seen so many interviews of her and shes always loosened up/looks like shes having a good time. Seemed like he didn't care about interviewing her but had to for his job. So condescending and patronising!!
Interesting comments here. I found his interviewing style almost clinical -- or at least analytical. He didn't ask anything to trigger humor or a humorous response from Grace Jones which she would have certainly provided. I wouldn't go as far as to say he was rude or condescending. You might conclude that he views a strong woman as a villain but that's a bit of a stretch.
Grace was so frickin gorgeous back then and still looks good at 70+ years old today. There is no one like her.
Yah 🥰🔥🔥💯
You got a queen of hearts in your show, she is brilliant and intelligent singer, actress, model, designer, charismatic legend.
I love Grace! What a beautiful soul and a beautiful woman.
She was wayyyyyyy before her time.
Amen!! I was fortunate enough to see her LIVE!!
She's so beautiful
what a class act! she took some of his lame questions and brought the topic back to her work. very slick. and she was super gracious the whole time.
And he was an absolute twat..look at his body language maybe he had a boner the whole time😂 what a loser
I love grace jones her outfit is flawless. She is amazing.
She’s so beautiful!!!
I ALWAYS admired her confidence!! Beautiful Teeth, facial structure and very Eloquent!!!!!
I love her voice

TheWinterShadow i agree it’s like they’re there purely to make the artist feel out of place
Everything about her is amazing!!!!!!
Man its been 4 days and I cant stop watching her interviews
this guy is so disrespectful towards grace Jones, you should be honored to have had Grace Jones in your show she is a legend. LOVE YOU GRACE JONES FOREVERRRRRR!!
I bet no one would ever interview a guy in this way...
Right 👍
The interviewer seems rude towards Grace Jones. The interviewer is not as intelligent as Grace Jones and therefore he can´t understand what she is saying about her character in the "Vamp" movie. Grace Jones was way before her time and I´m so happy that she is still alive and for her to be as creative now as she was when she was younger. :)
Bryant Gambel's corny goofy ass. Grace is always amazing. She is walking art!
Beautiful Iconic Queen👑🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
She handled that sooo well. The amount of ignorance emitting from him.........
FACTS
thatotherenby My exact same thoughts. He has no Idea what Art is, and especially a living Art
I love You grace jones😊
I'm always baffled at people putting women in a box. That is very interesting. She is a gorgeous, powerful Queen. He was trying to minimize her by believing something he doesn't understand. What a goofball; did he ever thank her for the interview? He's lucky Miss Jones is a classy woman. She was quite gracious as always.
Grace Jones is one of those timeless beauties
Grace is always such a queen. I love her!
Oh my god I love Grace a LOT! Such an inspiration! What an intelligent and creative woman
she is so beautiful
This is the woman. The cheekbones Gah!
She is a woman of surprises, for such a shock value stage character like Grace Jones, she is a soft spoken, debonair intellect. Do you know how many people, fans would love to take that chair and speak with her, shame of Bryant Gumble for being such an ignoramus.

she is so unique I love her :)
Rude and condescending interviewer but she handled it well
Yeah Bryant Gumbel is known for his douchebaggery during his interviews.
It is now I see why people dislike Gumble. What a jerk SMH. How dear him dismiss the great Grace Jones. He's a SOB I tell ya SHM
I just looked for "uncool" in the dictionary and this guy's picture was there.
"And I'll let you go to London". Perfect response to his supercilious attitude there at the end.
What an absolutely rude excuse for a man!!!
I'm sorry, but ever since that slapping incident in 1980, I have seen every interviewer, good and bad, comment on how she is "intimidating" or "scary". Queen Grace 👑

Gosh, he was so rude to her. Thumbs way down for him.
Love u Grace!
Her career should’ve been bigger than Lady Gaga’s. I said what I said. 🤷🏽♀️
They are both fashion icons and rlly creative artists, dont compare em.
Watching these hosts in 2020 and I have to say the bar was really low back then. Carson, this guy....it’s hard to believe people thought they were good. the whole body language off that dude is very negatieve damn grace is soooo fasinating
I never liked Bryant Dumballs, he comes off as an arrogant prick, ashamed of his own race. Grace knew how to handle him, gracefully! So glad not to run into his pompous ass on the television anymore, although I imagine he's slithering around somewhere. Love Grace though, she's truly a

George Pierce
Damn! U just made me realize I haven’t seen him in years. Where the hell is Bryant Gumble these days? 😂
she is really smart woman
Grace Jones is the most beautiful woman of color I’ve ever seen. Far more lovely than Beyoncé in my opinion.
Lol if you believe that you wouldn’t have mentioned Beyoncé . Next case
She is so cool 😎❤
Love the hat and the lady wearing it
I really don't know who Bryant Gumbel is because this was way before my time. But he is sure acting like a compleat asshole to her! But Grace kept her cool. She seems like such a pleasant person.
Grace Jones the legend!
Beautiful woman wow! Intelligent wow this woman is good
I agree with everyone, the guy was an idiot
Grace is the greatest, I just love her.
warm and sweet..........
And l think shes much better than the interviewer critics
Bryant gumble a REAL UNCLE TOM
Ugh he's so slimy! Grace Jones, beautiful and eloquent as usual..
I don't like his attitude. she's a very sweet person and he is being so unreasonable. ofcourse she has a vulnerable side, SHE'S A FREAKING HUMAN TOO! Like WTH! That junk makes me so mad!
Always loved Grace Jones... even though, she did scare the hell out of me in her "Vamp" film.
@Ibeannaful it was a special song done just for the film, i think it was just called " Vamp " it was used in the performance piece sequence...don't think it's ever been released...:(
@sarahs075
I think he hosted the first Survivor reunion show. It didn't go down well.
Every1 during this time made it seem as if U couldn't act AND sing!!!! She's phenomenal
never saw VAMP lol but I dig grace jones
It's good
Kool. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thought he was condescending. I was starting to think maybe something was wrong with me.
yuck I hate him I hate his style of interviewing I feel like je wants to break her spirit and make her vulnerable like he is Barbra Walters or something... sorry bro you were just on the today's show chill out and be fun.
Grace would be best interviewed by someone who is a supporter or her music and films. It would have made for much better interview on the side of the interviewer.
I've never seen her dressed so conservatively!
@b0red2t3ars agree 100%..and she would.have played the shyt out of the Akasha role!!
Even now, I still get moist at the mere sight of here... #GORGEOUS! #ICON!
She's soo she: Oh Natural 💖
He really is just taken back by her, in a way that he views her as something foreign. I can't believe he got away with that rudeness. She's Eccentric, but not a creep. Well joke is on him, grace jones is known. He isn't
That guy is horrible. No warmth at all
She's beautiful and he's pissing me off...
Was Carlton Banks from Bel -Air doing this interview?
lmfao. she is a sweetheart though
he's such a pain in the ass
She could have knocked his block off if she had wanted too. He was lucky .....
I still l💝ve her LADY GA GA?! No GRACE BABY!
Wow, what a prick. And I could tell she wasn't comfortable because Ive seen so many interviews of her and shes always loosened up/looks like shes having a good time. Seemed like he didn't care about interviewing her but had to for his job. So condescending and patronising!!

He always got on mydamn nerves!!!
That interview wasd one of her more intense and stiff. They seem to only connect marginally.
Anne Rice. Show the Respect.
does anyone know the song played at the beginning 0:07-0:31?

....it's her song from the movie...called...SEDUCTION SURRENDER....
Him, rude and not a pro
Wow, he was very mean. Probably cause is a black women. If she was so aggressive she would have been mean to him but she was respectful
high priestess
She handled it well..........
He was a little flaky.
Does david bowie copied her?
01:35 Interview with the Vampire... 😉:)
Nicki Minaj definitely stole ideas from her too.
Who the hell is that guy asking dumb questions?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Vamp , that was a dirty movie.
What arse!!! Glad he got fired!!!
Rude as hell “you’ve been up all night, go get some sleep” not even a thank or have a nice day. Nothing
She doesn’t sleep, but she behave like zen master compared to him.
4:00 5:21
ewww he's icky
