    I despise gambling but when Skizz talks about it i listen.

    • @draagax
      @draagax 6 місяців тому +29

      I think if it's done extremely responsibly, it's okay. what i despise are casinos cuz theyre just out to take all your money. poker night kinda thing with the guys is always fun. also...
      Skizz: "I don't have a gambling addiction, I have a gambling PROBLEM" paraphrased from secret life lol.

    • @junoantaresofficial
      @junoantaresofficial 4 місяці тому +4

      I think it's because Skizz talks about it in a very cautious, responsible way. He acknowledges that gambling is addictive and that it can get dangerous very fast and self control is essential for playing. He doesn't play to win money, he plays for the fun of it, the social aspect of reading people and being able to understand what he is reading and being able to act on those reads. I think that makes an enormous difference between him and the more typical gambler.

    Advice for an Alaskan cruise from one who lives there: ignore the seasonal jewelry stores and poke around in the locally owned shops, they are super fun. The White Pass Railroad train ride in Skagway is stunning and fascinating and awesome. When you’re in Juneau, if the clouds are above the mountain peaks, the Mt. Robert’s Tram downtown is totally worth it and the hiking up there is glorious. You guys are the best!

    I work at a church. December is literally the busiest month of the year. Not only do I have to program my services but I also have events, prep and Bible study set ups. From 6:15am to 8:00pm every day. I’m just glad my vacation is in a week.

    I've been on one cruise in my time and I really enjoyed it. My family always does a trip every year to SoCal and stay camping on the state beach with tons of other families that we are friends with. Group trips are a great time with the right people!

    Impulse being completely relatable for a whole podcast lol. I moved to the ocean and found it extremely healing so hiking along the ocean cliffs is my relaxation and meditation, and being at the beach of course, but I am terrified of being on boats. I took the ferry to this island a few times and when we were kids my sister coaxed me onto the deck in the middle of the night in the rain and told me to smell the ocean, look over the edge... She came up behind me and did the fake out push/shake you and I wanted to cry 😭😂 lol being the youngest means you're always getting trolled as a kid hahaha. It was so nice, but the ocean is so immense it should be feared

    I can agree with beach house (3:40), but for me I wouldn’t want sand. Having visited the rocky shores of Maine many times, I have found them to be enchanting in a way that sandy beaches don’t usually provide. Somehow I’m more drawn to the cold and harsh more than the sunny and inviting
    I wouldn’t ever be able to afford to rent a beach house though, those things are expensive lol

    • @Missmori
      @Missmori 6 місяців тому

      i like vacationing on lake michigan. same reason. haaaaaaate sand. they have some sandy beaches but a lot of them are rocks, with a narrow strip of sand. and lake sand doesnt stick as much as beach sand... plus i get out of the lake and my hair feels like i used 50$ product on it.

    Skizz reminds me alot of my dad . Especially with his attitude of "What others think... Who cares"? A few years ago, he told me and my siblings to pack bare necessities and meet him in the car in thirty minutes. A few days later we were at Disney World. No prior planning, no mention of Disney or anything. Whenever we would ask about packing certain items, he would say verbatim, "Its not the Oregon Trail. There are Walmarts in Florida."
    Thank you Impluse and Skizz for everything you do!

    The best "vacation" I ever went on (in quotes because I was actually volunteering for ADA disability accommodations, so theoretically it wasn't just a vacation) was Planet Comicon KC in 2022.
    I got to meet Adam Savage from Mythbusters (and get a photo with him, and get it signed! It's framed on my wall). He is a genuine, kind, and very hilarious person and I absolutely loved getting to chat with him. You guys should see if he'd want to be on the Podcast!
    I also had the absolute pleasure of escorting a lovely blind lady and her sighted guide (also her best friend) through the convention. It was a very memorable experience and I absolutely loved doing it. I'd volunteer again in a heartbeat, and plan to.
    There were some not so great experiences on that trip as well (spent way too much money on some absolute garbage food, for one) but honestly I don't even care. It was worth it.

    Memories really are what matter most. It's not important whether you're on a 2 week European ski vacation or 2 hours at your local park.
    We went on an Alaskan cruise last summer. Impulse, you absolutely HAVE to go whale watching as well. It was one of the most memorable for me. Well that and the glacier and the killer whales and the beautiful mountains and the forest hike and the train ride and the everything! I also had a couple pretty good Alaskan beers.
    If it's an Alaskan Carnival cruise, you need to hang out at the Alchemy Bar. The 3 guys we had were really great! I kinda miss those guys and I only knew them for like 5 days. Lol! I'm not calling out their names on the Internet, but I really want too! I hope they are doing well.

    If you're going to Europe, I know some very obscure places in the balkans (near greece). Sunken churches, a certain cave I totally didn't break into (the guard dog strays didn't really do their job), an ancient observatory, an abandoned hotel that was burned down in the eighties that you can sleep on the roof of if you so desire, one of the worst zoos to ever exist, an ancient roman aqueduct, a lake with one-of-a-kind pearls, a fun mountain to climb that sits right next to a canyon with a cave, and just a bunch of random ruins you can climb around on. This is all just in North Macedonia and its all free, by the way. If you're interested in ideas you can let me know, but I've also been to 27 different countries and can give you some ideas and tips free of charge :). Europe is an amazing place, but being a tourist can also be pretty dangerous.

    As a kid in England, a 5-hour drive to the beachfront in Wales always felt sooo far away! My family and i would go almost every year to a caravan park where my granddad owned two, it's like a mini hit of nostalgia every time you go back, and so interesting to make so many different memories at different times in very similar places. Sandy beaches are definitely fun, but i also love rocky and pebbly beaches, especially when the rocks are big enough to climb up. Little me also had one of his first great tastes of independence then, being able to run along the beach pretty much as far as i wanted, my parents knowing i was gonna be alright, such fun!

    So awesome to hear about all your wonderful holidays! I remember when impulse came back from his cruise and spent most of a stream telling us about it, it brought back all the happy memories for me from 13 years ago when my husband and I went on the same ship around the canary islands for our honeymoon! We loved the pizza place too! Being able to go grab a slice of pizza or two whenever we wanted was awesome, and I could so imagine lil miss impulse bringing back her red pizza shaped plate with the slice of pizza on it! (We loved those plates so much that a few might have made their way off the ship with us! 🤫🙈) I'd love to be able to take my kids on a cruise one day, but really not sure my worsening motionsickness could handle it, even 13 years ago I spent most of the week feeling woozy from the background engine buzz and motion (the only place I didn't experience any motion was in the hottubs!) But it would still be something utterly amazing to do!

    Great podcast! Love the stories!
    My wife loves the beach (probably because she grew up less than an hour from one), and I love walking the beach at sunrise or late in the evening, but I have no desire to hang out in the sun, getting burnt, splashing in the waves. I only go because she loves it. My ideal spot is the mountains -- especially in the fall, when the leaves are changing. And the whole family loves picking fresh mountain apples. We make a point to visit both beach and mountains every year.
    EDIT: You mentioned an Alaska Cruise. Wife and I went this past summer (without the kids) and had a wonderful time. Hope you enjoy your trip!

    Loved this podcast guys!🙃Brought back many memories from vacations in my past. My best vacation experience so far is definitely the West Highland Way in Scotland. This was my first multi-day hiking trip and just the pure freedom of having only three important things to care about each day (eat, sleep, walk) and walking wherever you feel like walking and sleeping wherever you feel like sleeping is exhilarating. Cannot recommend anything more than a trip like that. You can do them almost (wildcamping is the bottleneck) everywhere in the world😆

    honestly my favourite vacation i've ever been on was christmas 2020. i went with two of my cousins, their dad, and his mom [aka our grandma]. we flew from texas to tennessee. that was the second time my cousins and i saw snow. we threw snowballs at each other, my cousin lost her phone in the snow, i got hit in the face with an ice ball by my younger cousin, it was great! our cabin wasn't ready by that night so we got a hotel room for one night; my grandma and i in one room and my cousins and their dad in another. my grandma, cousins, and i got into a bread fight where we would knock on each other's doors, throw bread in, then run. i'm surprised we didn't get kicked out

    My wife and I did an Alaskan cruise for our honeymoon. Absolutely loved it! We enjoyed it much more than the tropical cruises we tried later.

    one thing to consider... CRUISE MEET-UP ... if 20-30 couples join then not only would the group might get a small discount, but Imp & Skizz could likely get free cruise... (not sure what is usual for cruises but group hotel "conventions" can comp one room for as small a group as 8-12 so about 10%)
    THUMB UP ONLY IF YOU'D BOOK A MEET-UP CRUISE (assume adults only cruise for I&S family security)

    Ok guys! Here me out here..... a Disney Cruise. If you think you have had good food and good service, just you wait. Disney goes above and beyond. My husband and I( no kids) went on for our Honeymoon 12 years ago and we were hooked! We have been on 12 total and #13 is booked for February. My absolute favorite way to vacation!!

    Thank you for this at just the right time. My youngest is on the dance team and going to Disney World next June and then I found out recently my other kiddo has the chance to go to NY with her music program at school. It is hurting the pocketbook but oh the memories I will make with my youngest and my oldest will make with her Grandma in NY. Trips they will remember forever. Times will be tight but it is worth it. Thanks for validating that.

    Cool things from Alaska from someone who lives there:
    -realllly good ice cream shops in Anchorage and Fairbanks
    -impeccable Japanese and Thai food
    -lots of very good local breweries and meaderies (I don't drink, but they are very popular)
    -Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage has great history and craft demonstrations
    -Denali National Park (overnight camping at Savage River = excellent)
    -Exit Glacier and Mt. Marathon hikes in Seward are intense but worth the views (but don't eat the local taffy in town >_

    I've been to Puerto Villarta!! It absolutely beautiful!! The water was so nice and the sand was like powder. I had the opportunity to go parasailing and it was breathtaking. It was so peaceful. Just you and the your thoughts and the cool ocean breeze. one of my favorite vacations so far

    It might be because I live about an hour away from one of the most popular beaches in the US, but the beach has never really been a big thing for me. I'm very glad that there are people that enjoy it a lot (my dad included lol) but it's not for me

    The entertainment director told us about one of his worst stories where someone jumped off and apparently if you're about 12 stories up you're done on impact but also the boat stays in place for up to 24 hours and the coast guard comes in. After 24 hours the boat is free to go.

    I went to Spain for a high school trip over 16 years ago, I took my parents along as chaperones and they fell in love with Benalmedina, a city on the coast of the Mediterranean. They went back a few times in the years afterwards, but this year I got to join them. Returning back to that city was incredible, it was like it never changed, but at the same time it did. The weather is beautiful and so many things to do that's just a short drive or walk away. Highly recommend, try going in the off season, or just before/after the vacation seasons start (June-Oct) We went in May and it was *perfect*

    Best vacation I ever took was to Zao in Japan. It’s an exploded volcano that the inside has become a kind of lake. It’s a big climb up, but once you get up there, you hike along the rim of this massive thing and one misstep could have you sliding for a while. But it’s beautiful if you can see it right as the clouds part and you can actually look down into the basin.
    After that was the waterfalls and hot springs you can go to. My wife and I stayed in a small bed and breakfast with a small coed hot spring that we could both enjoy together while looking out the window at this beautiful endless forest.

    I went on that Alaska cruise with family years ago; rode a train and saw the dogsleds too- it was fun. I hope you have an awesome time! I've heard that when the cruise ship passes the glaciers, the exercise / treadmill room is an awesome place to be: cool view while exercising and not many people crowding around :) (Thanks for sharing your silly stories!)

    I like to listen to these when i skate so I often dont get tk them right away. Ive been on a couple cruises and loved each one! However my favorite vacation spot is Idaho/Wyoming. My family and husband have gone camping out there many times. Its a couple days drive but everytime the scenery and memories are worth it! Jackson hole, square icecream, huckleberries, and the tetons are just a few things I'll never forget. Its so nice to just disconnect from everything and explore and enjoy it ^-^
